My group of 5 friends and I decided to go to The Finch to celebrate my birthday and it was fantastic. Since it was an unusually pleasant evening for September, we asked to be seated outside. The patio is very nice and it’s going to be a great place to sit, relax and have some amazing food & drinks once the fall weather has arrived.
First, the drinks. The menu claims that they have the “Worlds Smoothest Espresso Martini” it’s the truth. Two friends ordered the espresso martini and raved about them so much that I had to take a sip. It was so smooth and balanced that I almost ordered one as well, but I stayed with my original classic martini instead. My vodka martini was also very smooth, and I enjoyed the blue cheese stuffed olives that it came with. They also have a good wine selection, and I had a very nice red Zinfandel with dinner.
For appetizers, we shared an order of the smoked trout dip and an order of the Tzatziki and spicy Feta. Both of these were really good, though I would have liked the trout dip to be a bit more fish forward. They were served with Naan bread, baked pita chips, Old Bay saltines and crispy potato waffles, which were the crowd favorite.
For the main entrée, I can’t tell you what everyone got but it was obvious that most everyone really enjoyed their meals. Two entrées in particular got rave reviews, the Wagyu Chicken Fried Steak and the Shrimp and Grits.
We did have 1 hiccup during dinner. Two of us ordered the Prime Rib. I ordered mine Medium Rare and my friend ordered hers Rare-Rare. I usually like my steaks rare to medium rare, and usually a medium rare prime rib comes out very pink and tasty. My friends order came out perfect and delicious. Unfortunately, mine did not. If I had to guess, I would have said that it was 1 slice in from the very end - the most cooked through piece of the roast. It had a very hard, dry coating and the meat was definitely overdone. I tried cutting off the outer layer to see if that helped, but it was just too dry. Because the restaurant was very busy, and our table was kind of out on the edge of the patio, the server didn’t have a chance to get back to us until about halfway through the meal. I let her know about the problem and she was very apologetic. She took away the plate and immediately offered to get me something else, but at that point I wasn’t very hungry and didn’t want to make the group wait for me to eat so I declined. A bit later a manager also came out to apologize for the problem and offered to get me something else, and since the group had just been talking about their battered fries, I asked for an order of them. The fries were very good – crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. I was actually very satisfied with how the issue was handled and appreciative of the staff wanting to make sure that I was happy.
For dessert, the server brought me out a piece of the Flourless Chocolate Torte for my birthday and it was rich and creamy and delicious. Someone else ordered the Butterscotch Pecan Bread Pudding and we passed both desserts around so everyone could have a taste. Both were very good, but for me chocolate will always win the day.
All in all, I definitely would – and have – recommend The Finch to others and we will...
Read moreThe food was good here, but nothing really special, and I think it's comparable to any other upscale dining establishments in Dallas area. The ambiance of the restaurant was great and beautiful for date night or girl's night out. The service on the other hand is why the restaurant receives 3 stars vs. 1 or 5 from me. I used to work in service industry so I know how it works. Firstly, I want to praise the management team for handling it properly and perfectly as I expected any restaurants would. However, our server was just terrible not because he couldn't do his job but just his attitude and demeanor towards my friend and I. We came in for Happy Hours as my friend suggested because like many others we saw incredible reviews on social media. We ordered few items for appetizers and it was half off on the menu. Mind you there's only 2 of us and we ordered crab dip, clams, sliders and a dozen oysters to try a little of everything. Our server insisted to upsell us and when we said no he gave us a bit of attitude. Then when we ordered the sea bass, my friend took a bite and found a rubber band in her food. We immediately call the server over and he took it in the kitchen then took it back out and insited that just a piece of broccoli. I respectfully suggested that it was not and he told me with his cell phone flashlight to pull on it and see if it's a rubber band. Indeed it was and so a few of the management team came to check on us which I really appreciate but what I DO NOT appreciate was the way my server talked to us the entire time and made it seems as if we didn't want to pay for the food. We wouldn't mind paying for the replacement but the attitude and side comments alone is enough for me to not continue my dinner there. This might be a one off but I'm definitely going to have to reconsider before coming back and this is not reflecting on the management team...
Read moreOur son, Kylan Herchman & wife Stephany had been telling us how much they enjoyed The Finch in Grand Prairie, so they gave us a $100 gift card for Christmas. Since May 3rd was our 39th wedding anniversary, we decided to go and take them with us. We were truly not prepared for the “wonderful atmosphere”, “ delicious food” and “great service” provided by our waiter, Zach! We made a 5:00pm reservation and was greeted with, happy anniversary & seated inside where the beautiful view of the water display was! We are older and just moved to this area and it was the best Anniversary! I had my first Espresso martini and if you have never tried one, you definitely need to! My husband enjoyed a locally brewed beer that was poured by Zach with perfection! Happy Hour was so enjoyable with the Oysters on the half shell & Loaded waffle fries. They have such a great assortment of food! Prime Rib melted in your mouth & I like mine medium-well & it was seasoned perfectly! Now that’s rare! They had Salmon for my husband & daughter-n-law and Chicken Fried Steak for our son, all plates were beautifully served & all food delicious! We had our little granddaughter with us and she loved the food also, not a single tear or cry! After dinner we walked along the waterfront and there were young families & older people like ourselves enjoying the outside comfy couches, table & chairs & a very nice play area for the children. I never felt out of place, such a wonderful mixture of people, just enjoying time with their friends & family!
Thank you for making our 39th Anniversary one to remember and thank you for the complementary glass of champagne!
I wanted to try everything, so we definitely have to go back! If you’re looking for a place to dine with good food, service with a smile & a great atmosphere, you definitely need to go to “The Finch in Grand...
