Review: The Londoner Pub on Mockingbird in Dallas

Our visit to The Londoner Pub on Mockingbird in Dallas to watch the final match between Spain and England was far from enjoyable. We arrived around 11:30 AM for the 2 PM start, only to find the pub already packed with no seating available for our party of six. Consequently, we were forced to sit outside in the sun with only umbrellas for shade and no misters to cool us down.

As the day progressed, ordering beer or food became an arduous task. I had to navigate through a dense crowd inside, spending ten minutes just getting to the bar and then waiting another 15-20 minutes to get a drink, only to struggle back through the crowd to our table. It appeared that only two bartenders were working, which was clearly insufficient for the large crowd.

The outdoor service was equally disappointing. There were only two waitresses for the entire area, and they were overwhelmed and scarce. Our waitress, who seemed flustered and overworked, rarely checked on us and often disappeared. It was evident that the establishment was grossly understaffed, which made me feel sympathetic towards the staff but frustrated with the service.

Adding to the frustration, the owner decided to close the indoor area to the outdoor spectators at game time, directing us to use the restroom at the next establishment. Thankfully, the movie theater next door provided a refuge where we could order food, beverages, and use the facilities without any hassle.

Typically, The Londoner is a favorite spot of mine, but this weekend's experience was disappointing. To top it all off, our waitress, who was supposed to check on our drinks, came back after two hours and claimed they were likely swiped by someone else. This level of service was unacceptable.

Overall, this experience has made me reconsider returning to The Londoner. I hope they address these staffing and service issues, as this visit was far from the enjoyable experiences I have had...

This was the craziest experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Our server was wasted. I don’t know what he was on, but here’s the play by play. We sit down and our server comes over. We don’t have menus, but he asks us what we want. The manager brings us menus so we tell him our drink order and he walks away. He then came back after his manager gave us waters and the server was too wasted to tell the manager what table they were for. He then asks us what we want to eat. After he takes our order he asks us what we want to drink. Clearly never put our order in. He looks at the bar and drunkenly says he doesn’t think they are making it and will check. Then stands there for another minute telling us he doesn’t know if the drink order was in. Then we watch as he goes to the POS and stares at the computer for a minute. Then he comes back and tells us he couldn’t read his writing and shows us the ticket he wrote on. Chicken scratch. So we tell him again, we then ask if he put in the drink order and he rambles about how he can’t read his writing again for another 3 minutes before he walks away. We ended up just walking out. Also the booth we tried to sit at smelled like pee so we had to move tables. Very very bad experience. We have been to the Addison location many times and have never had that type of experience, but honestly I would never go to either after this. It was very...

We came here before the miami smu game. Absolute chaos. Apparently the miami fans had called ahead and given them a LARGE headcount. They opened an hour early (7am) to accommodate which was nice. But there was literally one waitress for maybe 200 people today. It took 40 minutes standing at the bar to get 2 drinks and was the worst espresso martini I've ever had in my life...under ordinary circumstances i would have politely asked them to remake it but I couldn't be bothered to go back to the bar and wait another 40 minutes to get it rectified so left. Not the employees fault since you could see they were sooooo stressed and frustrated. We would have stayed for a couple of hours and eaten but we would probably have still been there waiting until the next home game 🤦‍♀️🤣🤣. Maybe people called out sick, who knows. Again, not the waitresses fault or the bar staff fault. We will never go back on a game day...

There are two Londoner locations, I’ve never been to the Addison location, but this is an instant favorite of mine you can I easily imagine yourself transported to London at a pub watching a champions league game and/or FA cup, or Premier league matches there are TVs everywhere, passionate fans, good service, and surprisingly good food options such as fish (white cod) and chips, haddock (also white fish) and chips, side salad with lemon vinaigrette, also tried house salad with ranch. Last time I came had the Philly cheesesteak. tomato soup is really good, my buddy had the and grilled cheese lunch special. The best thing on the menu is the bbq short ribs braised pasta. Outdoor seating available as well. I really like the lighting in here and I’m sure other people have complimented that too. You could play darts if you want. The setting is posh and cockney.

Many cities have a restaurant/spot whose mission statement is to mimic a UK pub, but few can really capture something genuine and capitalize on that mission. The Londoner succeeds here. Not only is this in contention for the best fish & chips I've had in the States, but the atmosphere is authentic and lived in rather than contrived and pandering. It's no surprise that they have had enough success to expand their service: they're doing a lot well. The food is great, the beer selection is brilliant, and the staff is *genuinely* welcoming and jovial. I plan to return before my trip is over, and I recommend any other visitor of Dallas do the same.
