TLDR: A quirky and unique experience, with accommodating and friendly staff. If only the flavors matched.
Pop, neon, and houndstooth; "Egg Bar" printed in mocha dust a top coffee foam; 2000's dream pop whimsy; Shangri-La haven for Instagram zealots.
The restaurant is a masterclass in first impressions. And it's obvious from the crowd on a Sunday afternoon, patrons agree. A zest in the air, of opportunity, that greater wonders lie ahead of a world outside of banal existence. Even the novel ordering kiosks titillate the guest experience.
We were instantly greeted by friendly staff, and they were quick to add that the wait time for food prep was an estimated 30 minutes. As out-of-towners who did all of our out-of-towning the night before, "no rush" was the mantra and we grabbed an empty table (we got lucky!). We soaked in the neon glow of highlighter yellow painted walls and made note of the neighborhood locals. Among some white suburban families, we noticed the diversity of local patronage, including Hispanics and a significant percentage of Muslim and Arab customers.
This would explain why the restaurant advertises itself as Halal friendly. Wikipedia states (through an unconfirmed source) that Dearborn is home to the largest proportion of Arab-Americans in the United States, and a 2006 NPR article cites the city as housing the largest Lebanese-American population in the country. It was a surprise and pleasure to find ourselves at the heart of a bustling community.
Presentation and vibes aside, these features at once distract from what diners come here for, food and beverage. My classic cold brew was refreshing, the price similar to other breakfast/coffee establishments. Forty-five minutes later came the sandwich. My Bacon DLUX sandwich starred a layer of turkey bacon, a fresh-steamed egg, and novelties like burnt onion jam and chili crisp mayo. My foodie brain was tickled pink. The anticipation was palpable. This restaurant, for all of its investment, and all of its crowds, must be worth the hype.
But nothing happened. Maybe I didn't get all of the ingredients in one bite...try again....no wait, you missed the jam! Try again.
I'm not one to complain, so much as to try and offer insight and construction. Typical breakfast sandwiches are a relatively cheap way to deliver a hearty burst of flavor. Somehow this sandwich cost significantly more and lost its way, was abandoned at sea. The jam and mayo had no sweet and no savor. Even the bacon, captain of salty savor, couldn't find its way home to port. The Japanese Shokupon bread IS their "bread and butter", and it's possible I misunderstood the assignment, but flavor and texture wise it came across as familiar as Texas toast. No spices?
There is so much hard work put in by the Egg Bar team; their actions and smiles spoke volumes. But in the end, a company that is so consumed by getting the vibes JUST right also just harbors the facade to hide a mediocre sandwich at best, and a costly investment of time and...
Read moreWalking in the place is just too loud. Music blaring like it's a club. Your meant to order at the kiosk but the door greater who should have directed us to it was too busy talking and giving free product to another more important guest. Once we did order food (2 sandwiches 2 drinks and a side of hasbrowns for $52) it took a minute but they just opened so I'm fine waiting. I just find it odd that there were 8 people in the kitchen?
Brown sugar cinnamon cold brew was all right. Seems like they use a lite roast/could brew the coffee longer for a bolder taste. As soon as the cubes melted it was like drinking a Americano.
The avocado they use must be frozen because it definitely had that strange after taste. No salt or pepper was used on the egg at all and almost all the fillings were only on the top half of the sandwhich because of the way they are assembled. The chili lime salt was nice but yet again it was only on the top of the sandwhich not throughout. Really disappointed to pay over $50 and receive this kind of food. The bread was nice and fluffy but I'm not sure they even make it there, might just be a good vendor.
Wouldn't come back again unless someone else was buying and even then I would recommend splitting a sandwhcih due to cost...
Read moreEgg Bar in Dearborn, Michigan, is a great spot for a hearty breakfast or brunch with a modern twist. During our visit, I opted for the avocado toast, while my husband went for the steak and egg breadless option. We also shared the truffle rosemary hash sticks, which were crispy and flavorful—a perfect side dish.
To accompany our meals, my husband had the Motor City Blend coffee, which he thoroughly enjoyed, while I went for the Passion Fruit Paradise refresher—a light and refreshing drink that paired well with the meal.
The food overall was good, and the service was commendable. The staff was friendly and attentive, although they did forget a couple of our add-ons initially. However, they quickly brought them out once we mentioned it, showing a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
The ambiance of Egg Bar is modern and inviting, with a bright and airy atmosphere that makes it a pleasant place to enjoy a meal. The outdoor seating area is a nice touch, perfect for warmer days when you want to dine al fresco.
While there were a few minor hiccups, such as the forgotten add-ons, the overall experience was positive. The combination of good food, great service, and a nice setting makes Egg Bar a spot worth visiting if you're in the...
