I arrived around 8pm on a Friday to meet friends and was slightly surprised by how busy it was. Most of my visits were in the earlier period of Finn's history, and often mid-week. It was a place that had never felt overly crowded, but just busy enough to seem popular with those in the know. The ever increasing popularity and population of the RiNo neighborhood is obviously driving more business here, and rightly so.
Cocktails have always been very good here. Although I'll admit the two I had this evening were, 1) a premixed cocktail on tap, and 2) a glass of whiskey on the rocks. Pretty hard to screw up. As busy as they were I'm hoping they continue to pay the same level of attention to the mixology. Beer selection here is good as well. There aren't endless choices, but what is available on the handles and in cans are mostly well curated selections covering a broad spectrum.
We gathered outside in the covered area under the heat lamps and were all very comfortable even though it was a bit of a cool evening. This is Colorado after all, and outdoor seating can be a year round experience. Finn's has great options for that.
It got a bit overly noisy as the evening went on, but that's simply my opinion. When I meet with my friends, conversation is a priority most of the time, and that was difficult at points with the background noise level. I dislike having to yell at people all night. I'll have to try a weekday after work again in the near future. This probably isn't the best place for a first date unless weekday happy hour is still a more subdued affair.
The crowd mix appeared to be mostly late twenties to mid 40s (my friends and I fall into the latter third of that demographic), and almost surprisingly a seemingly even ratio of women to men. I believe it speaks well to the overall vibe an establishment in this category has cultivated when you see groups of women having a fun night out without a single guy in tow. This is how it should be. The male douchery level seemed pretty low from what I saw. Nearly everyone I encountered was polite, considerate, friendly, and enjoying themselves.
There are some food trucks onsite that are decent, but nothing so good I'd specifically go to Finn's to experience them. The top choice from our group (and seemingly the rest of the bar) was the fried chicken sandwich truck.
Overall Finn's is still a great place and excellent for groups as long as they're willing to be outside any time of year. It's unpretentious and just a little gritty. It fits well in the neighborhood it inhabits and remains somewhere I suggest to others. It feels like a place that has existed far longer than it really has, and that's...
Read moreThis would easily be a five star because these guys make amazing beer, but they really gotta get rid of the disney world-esque line that they decided implement during the pandemic. Use to be able to come in and get a drink just like any other brewery. Now the entire interior is used as a giant line (not multiple lines, which would reduce the wait time. Just one massive line), which means that if you want a second beer you need to wait another 20+ minutes for another drink. I get it might be easier on the staff, but as a customer its extremely inconvenient and makes it so no one really wants to stick around. They have a truck outside that sells canned versions of a few of their beers, which is alright but incredibly limited.
...now with all that said, I'll still come here and bring my friends, because the beer is really good. They got a great variety, and the ambiance is fantastic, especially during the summer time. I definitely recommend...
Read moreI went here a few weeks ago for the first time and loved it. Great unique music, great vibe! I felt like I was in another world. I brought some out of town friends there last week because I loved it so much, but it was a completely different vibe - it was awful! The music was the same type of music you hear at a wedding and was so loud you couldn't talk, people were overly drunk and falling all over on the dance floor, it took 20 minutes to get a drink at the bar (and then bartender got the order wrong), I saw a guy literally climb the fence to get in the place (vs. walking through the entrance like a normal person - either he was underage, or got kicked out and was trying to sneak back in). My out of town guests were like - this place SUCKS. It was a huge bummer, because the vibe here put a damper on everyone's mood and the night...
