As a coffee lover, I was excited to check out a trendy new coffee shop that had recently opened up in my neighborhood. Upon entering, I was greeted by the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the cheerful chatter of customers. I ordered my usual cappuccino and eagerly waited for my drink to arrive.
The coffee itself was absolutely delicious, with a rich, bold flavor that perfectly balanced the creamy froth on top. However, my enjoyment of the coffee was quickly soured by an arbitrary surcharge that was added to my bill without any explanation.
When I asked the barista about the surcharge, I was informed that it was a fee added to cover the coffee shop's overhead costs, high wages, and incidentals. While I understand that running a business can be expensive, I was disappointed that the coffee shop felt the need to tack on an arbitrary fee without any prior warning or explanation.
To me, it felt like a sneaky way to raise prices without actually raising the advertised prices. It also left me feeling a bit cheated, as I had been under the impression that I was paying for the coffee itself and not for some hidden costs.
Despite the disappointing surcharge, I have to say that the coffee itself was excellent. It was obvious that the baristas were skilled and passionate about their craft, and the quality of the coffee was truly outstanding. However, I cannot overlook the arbitrary surcharge that was added to my bill, and I would caution other customers to be aware of this practice before visiting this coffee shop.
Overall, while the coffee was great, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this coffee shop due to their disappointing surcharge policy. I hope that they reconsider this practice and become more transparent with their pricing, as it would greatly enhance the overall...
Read moreDuring our stay in Denver we tried several breakfast spots. This was the most disappointing.
During our order, the cashier kept getting confused. He got the charges wrong and then we waited until he found someone to fix it
My partner wanted to try their fresh pressed juice, and when we got there it was bottled. She then tried their Rosemary Kouign-Amann, which ended up being croissant like, but would have been much better warmed up. There was a disk of crystalized sugar on top that should have been melted down into the pastry. She also got a baguette with goat cheese, however the cheese was practically frozen, making it unspreadable.
I tried their banana pudding, and it was straight up gross. The pudding was gritty instead of smooth, and it tasted like it was sugar free. I also got their traditional breakfast sandwich. It was alright. The muffin tasted fresh, but the egg and sausage tasted like they had been frozen disks that were heated up.
I also ordered a coke, and I'm still not sure what I got. The best I can tell, their machine was broken and it was almost all carbonation with a tiny bit of syrup.
The above mess was $37 before tip.
Stay away from this over priced mess.
Edit: we noticed the last next to us listed the same thing (Rosemary Kouign-Amann), but hers was warmed up and the disk of sugar had been bruleed.
I mentioned this to a lady behind the counter. She was very kind, apologized, and offered to refund it. It seems the confused fellow who checked us out also didn't know how to properly prepare the food. So maybe it's better there when you get someone who knows what...
Read moreI really should rate this place at 5 out of five as it is one of the best coffee shop/ cocktail locations you can go in downtown. However, there's just something that I don't quite like about it. I don't know what it is. It probably has to do with my divergence but I always feel like I'm completely exposed when I'm there. For most people this will be an amazing location. It's not too loud. It's very bright and the interior is amazingly designed. Every single thing on the menu is well worth the money that you have to pay for it and the staff are amazingly kind. But the wide open floor plan, and strangely gentrified aesthetic make me feel out of place there. It also has the same issue that a lot of coffee shops have or many people enter in order to be absorbed in their own world and enjoy good food and drink. However, the staff do require tips in order to make a good wage due to living in downtown Denver, this means that they will often service your table asking you if they you need anything else. If you go in alone for a cocktail or a cup of coffee, and you spend more than 5 to 10 minutes riding on your phone, drinking or eating. You can expect to be visited at least four times by someone desperate to be able to pay their rent. So it's a little disheartening. If you're someone with good coping mechanisms and an appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into food, I can almost guarantee you will enjoy yourself here. It does take me a little bit of bravery to...
