We've tried Gracie's three times now because a friend keeps telling us that we've just hit them at bad times. Well, sorry. Three strikes and you're out. We own 2 restaurants and understand that when things are busy the servers might struggle and we feel for them. We try to give places the benefit of the doubt. We try to only leave positive reviews because we fully understand the impact of less than 5 stars. However, every time we've been to Gracie's, everything from service to food to drinks has been so bad that we feel responsible to warn people that they go there at their peril. It's never been THAT busy when we've gone. We own a high volume sports bar. We know what busy looks like. But today was a new low. We heard our server/bartender speak rudely to 2 women that entered and asked a question. I ordered a Grey Goose martini and watched her make a Titos martini, overshake it for so long that it tasted like water and then charge us for Grey Goose. Every time she came to our table, she was borderline rude. Never welcoming, congenial or even polite. We observed the same thing with every customer with which she interfaced. The only word that describes her overall demeanor is surly. I understand that this is a small town and it's hard to find quality help, but the service we received today will not only prevent us from EVER returning, but prompted me to leave a 1 star review, which I only do when I'm gobsmacked by the level of horrible service received. Like only when I'm shocked into having to accept a new low in service. Not only was this the attitude we had to deal with, but my husband finally had to go to the bar to close us out because even though we sat with empty glasses for awhile and she walked by us several times, she never even bothered to glance at us. He waited at the bar for quite awhile before he was acknowledged and finally helped. For us, leaving a 20% tip is an insult - we rarely leave less than 30%. I can't even remember the last time we left no tip - but today was that bad....
Read moreWe have only briefly visited Depoe once before, for only a few minutes on our way home from Newport. We saw Gracie’s Sea Hag restaurant when we stopped there, thought it was a funny name, saw that the online reviews were decent, so we said that the next time we were in town, we would have to eat there. Well, that opportunity came along just a few weeks later when my husband in I stayed one night in Depoe Bay for our wedding anniversary. After we arrived in town, we wandered around looking at shops and then decided to have lunch at Gracie’s Sea Hag.
We were surprised as to how busy the restaurant was a little bit before noon on a Sunday, but either way we were seated quickly in a booth.
When our server came by to take our drink orders, I ordered the Marionberry Lemonade and husband decided to just have water. This drink, despite the actual marionberries hanging out at the bottom of the glass, still only tasted like fountain lemonade. I stirred and stirred, but the flavor did not change. After my husband tried it, he agreed that there was no marionberry flavor, just bland lemonade.
I ordered cod fish n’ chips and my husband ordered a crab cake sandwich. The breading on the fish separated quickly from the fish and after only a few minutes, started to get soggy. My husband said that the flavor of his sandwich was good but the sandwich itself was incredibly small compared to other crab cake sandwiches he has had elsewhere.
Really, the only thing that tasted good was the French fries and they probably were just frozen fries.
We both ordered food that is pretty hard to mess up, in our opinion, but somehow, they managed to make it very tasteless and boring. It was a very disappointing experience, one that we don’t...
Read moreWe came here while driving down the Oregon coast to try their famous chowder. I heard many recommendations and ppl hailing it the best on the coast. I love chowder and made a point to try as many chowders as I could during our 5 days down the coast, and immediately deemed it out of the running for best chowder, in fact it wasn’t anywhere near the best or in my top 5. I was quite disappointed actually. I’m not saying it was bad, but it definitely wasn’t anywhere near as good as people were saying it was. On top of it not being the best, their portions were also the smallest, and the presentation in the bread bowl was awful and made it look less appetizing. The outside of the bread was drenched in chowder as a failed attempt to make it look like the soup was overflowing when clearly they just dunked the bread bowl in the chowder and it came out as a sloppy mess. They also didn’t serve the top or inside of the bread bowl on the side which is another disappointment. The flavour was good but lacked any umph or substance in their small portions. As small as I thought the bread bowl was, the cup of chowder was ridiculously tiny, couldn’t have been more than 3 or 4 spoonfuls in what looked like the size have an espresso cup. We also wanted to get some steamers but unfortunately they weren’t available so we went with the combo Louis (a salad with pink shrimp and crab meat), it wasn’t very good and felt like a Denny’s meal. We went around 2 or 3pm and it was quite busy, had to wait roughly 45 minutes for a table for 2 after being put on the wait list. It wasn’t worth the wait. The server was friendly and good at her job but seeing how busy it was we didn’t see much of her and it took a while to get our order in. Would...
