My husband booked me a getaway weekend at the Detroit club inclusive of a room and spa day w/ champagne. We received an email notification at 3:04pm the day of check in (check in is at 3:00) stating my room had been cancelled. No one personally reached out and no explanation was provided. My husband called to figure out what had happened and found out there was a plumbing issue and was told “we can’t accommodate” and was hung up on. He called back again and asked for the GM. He was not connected with the GM but someone by the name of Rachel offered $100 off our next stay. My husband said I was still interested in having my spa day and asked if they could do anything to compensate (discount, additional service, etc.). The original offer was to simply waive a cancellation fee if I wanted to cancel since I was within 48 hrs of the service. My husband restated I wanted to keep the spa day and reiterated that the only reason I would be canceling is due to facility issues. My husband had paid for a small bottle of champagne with my massage already so Rachel offer to upgrade to a full bottle and charcuterie at not charge. I am dairy free, but said sure thinking I could have crackers and meats/fruits/etc.. Fast forward to the next day - no one greeted me upon entering the hotel. I got to the spa thanks to the valet’s direction and had a wonderful massage with heather. Afterwards I stayed for a hot tub (which was chilly) and sauna wondering when they do this champagne and charcuterie. I ended up paying for my service and there was no mention of these add ons at all - even the one my husband had originally paid for. All of this to say the hospitality of this hotel was lacking - especially for an upscale, boutique hotel. As much as I enjoyed my massage with heather I don’t know if I would come back because of the poor service in every other area of the business. I would have expected a personal call explaining the issue, a pre-planned way to handle the situation, and most than a cancellation fee waiver as their compensation offer. Additionally, there should have been additional communication and direction for the add-ons which never appeared. Extremely disappointing. This weekend was booked very intentionally and Detroit club failed to meet all...

I have to say, I’ve been a loyal guest at this hotel every time I’ve been in Detroit since I stumbled upon it a few years ago. However, my most recent overnight stay left much to be desired, particularly in terms of service.
Upon my arrival after a long day, I was disappointed to find that no one was attending the front desk. After waiting for several minutes and wandering around the lobby, I overheard voices coming from a room in the back. It turned out the attendant was valet parking a car and would return shortly. While the check-in process itself went smoothly, and I appreciated the complimentary glass of champagne as a nice touch, the initial impression was less than welcoming.
I had booked a junior suite, which was well-appointed but surprisingly lacked a desk and chair—something a business traveler would typically expect. This omission made it difficult for me to catch up on work during my stay.
When I checked out just after 11 a.m., I was informed of a $50 charge for checking out late. This fee was not disclosed at the time of booking or during check-in, leading to a rather unpleasant exchange with the woman at the front desk. I explained my concerns, but the interaction was frustrating and unhelpful.
Additionally, I inquired about getting a cup of coffee, which was unavailable in the room or the lobby after breakfast hours. The front desk attendant promised to bring me some, but that never happened. As I was leaving for the airport, I noticed her doing paperwork and mentioned the coffee, only to realize it clearly wasn’t a priority for her.
This experience of abysmal customer service has left me questioning whether I will stay here again or recommend it as I have in the past. It’s disappointing to see a hotel that I once loved fall short in such...
