I’ll be honest and say that I haven’t been to many dim sum places so I don’t have much to compare this place with. The entrance to the restaurant had beautiful decor. The decor and music reminded me of Crazy Rich Asians. Our server Amelia was very nice, and went through the trouble of finding out which items from the dimsum menu had pork in it, since my husband doesn’t eat pork, or any meat. The food came out quickly.
We got the Portuguese egg tart, jellyfish salad, yuchoy with oyster sauce, charcoal and egg yolk buns, seafood siu mai, crabmeat dumplings, black truffle shrimp dumplings, turnip cake, durian puff, and black sesame cake. The Portuguese egg tart was delicious. The crust was nice and flaky, and the egg was so tender it almost looked partially raw. It was my favorite item we ordered. The jellyfish salad was too hard, and I thought the sauce was overwhelming. The yu choy didn’t have enough oyster sauce. The charcoal and egg yolk buns had so much potential. They were so pretty on the outside. The egg yolk is basically raw so when you bite into it, it just leaks everywhere. It’s really messy. The flavor of the bun was delicious, but it’s too sweet. It would be good if it wasn’t so sweet. The seafood was over cooked in all of the seafood dumplings. The crabmeat dumplings didn’t have much crabmeat. It was mostly shrimp. The black truffle shrimp dumplings had a wonderful black truffle flavor. Normally when I order black truffle dishes they aren’t black truffle enough for me, but here it was perfect, although the shrimp was over cooked. The turnip cake was good, but a little greasy. We ordered it for my husband, but it ended up having pork in it, so I ate it. I wouldn’t order it again though. The durian puff was good if you like durian. The black sesame cake wasn’t actually a “cake.” It was kind of like Asian jello. It didn’t have enough black sesame flavor for me, but I love black sesame and a lot of things aren’t black sesame enough for me.
Overall, the service and atmosphere was good, but the food was just okay. I may not be a good critic though since I don’t have a lot of experience eating dim sum. I would come back to try some meat dishes because maybe they’re better than the seafood ones, and to try dishes from their a la carte, and...
Read moreI recently dined at this restaurant for a special occasion, my wife's birthday, and we were seeking authentic Chinese cuisine. The food itself was of good quality and met our expectations in terms of taste and presentation. However, the service we received was not up to par. Our waitress , a Caucasian girl with long nails that did not align with the atmosphere of a fine Chinese restaurant. Additionally, her service was lacking and there was an instance where she approached my wife outside of the restaurant in an unprofessional manner asking why did she not get the 18% tip and we had told her that she did not earned it. She harass my wife outside of the restaurant as if the restaurants stingy practices of underpaying workers is the fault of customers especially when we ordered over $300 worth of food for 2 adults and 1 child. We had already tipped her $20 for the lackluster service and when she ran outside to ask what was wrong, we still end up paying an extra $10 bucks which she then had a fit and acted ungrateful further completing her streak of being a total bad waitress.
The seating was also uncomfortable, and despite our requests, no efforts were made to change it until I had to flag down another waiter. Our waitress also did not check on us much during the meal, and when we asked for dim sum after brunch hours, we were informed coldly that they were "out of staff ?", which seemed implausible for a Chinese restaurant on a Friday night. This waitress seemed more eager to pack more tables, looking at her tips based on sales and when customer don't pay, then she finally comes out her busy schedule to hunt us down for services she barely rendered.
Despite many hints and giving this waitress an opportunity to go the extra mile, she barely finished the mile and hoped to get the first prize. We don't feel her gratuity was worth giving because we didn't feel grateful for her (lack of) effort.
In conclusion, I would not recommend this restaurant. The service was not satisfactory and it appeared that the staff prioritized tips over providing good service. Furthermore, the 18% tip policy felt more like a sales commission rather than a gratuity and the restaurant owner appeared more concerned with profit than providing quality service...
Read moreThis restaurant has the most authentic Chinese food I have ever eaten in USA.
It was my first date with a very nice Chinese woman. She recommended this restaurant.
We arrived at 11am on a Saturday. We ordered Szechuan style scallops and three orders of Dim Sum. I chose the scallops, she chose the Dim Sum. We shared all of the foods. It was a very pleasant experience.
Everything was delicious. The service was perfect. The scallops were perfect. It was a delicious meal. The tea was very good.
This is a very large restaurant. There are many tables. The restaurant was mostly full by 11:30am. I am a Caucasian male. I did not see any other Caucasians in the entire restaurant. Most customers were Asian. It's very simple. If you want authentic Mexican food, eat in the places that are popular with Mexicans. If you want authentic Chinese food... eat in the places that are popular with Chinese people.
Am I wrong?
The two of us could not eat all the food. It was all delicious, and the service was excellent. We spent the rest of the day walking around Lake Eola. We had a great day together! (The second date is coming soon!)
This place is not inexpensive. The check was $75 plus tip ($90 total). That's a lot of money for a lunch for two people who did not drink any alcoholic beverages, but it was worth every penny. We were both very happy with the food, service, and atmosphere. We had a very happy time at YH!
To the staff who work at YH: Thank you, thank you, thank you very much for excellent service and delicious food.
I will return to your restaurant again, and again, and again! I will also recommend this restaurant to everyone who asks for the best Chinese restaurant in Orlando.
An earlier reviewer complained about the fact that dim sum is not available after 2:30pm. He doesn't understand the whole concept of dim sum. Dim sum is not about the food. Dim sum is supposed to be enjoyed leisurely during a period of hours with friends and family as brunch or lunch. Dim sum is a social thing. Drink tea. Talk with friends. Eat some food. Enjoy time with your friends and family! Slow down. Relax.
Dinner time is too late for dim sum. We people in the "west" can learn a lot from people...
