TL;DR - Looking for a quick and spicy Korean meal? Hwangso Gozip might tempt you with its budget-friendly lunch menu and dedicated smoking area. But for our dinner visit, the service was a fumble, the food lacked fire (except for one fiery dish!), and the overall experience fell short. So, unless you're in the immediate vicinity and crave affordability, there are tastier options.
Now, for the full debrief: We walked in at 6 pm, hoping for a warm welcome and a side dish symphony. Sadly, the server informed us the side dishes were out of commission, leaving us a tad disappointed but still hungry. The good news? Our main dishes arrived swiftly. The bad news? The self-service/table service mystery kept us guessing. We politely requested utensils and discovered the napkins were MIA, too. At least they remembered the water!
Spicy, they promised. Spicy, I imagined. But the dishes, except for the chicken feet (those lived up to their fiery reputation!), played a lukewarm tune. The spicy squid, ironically, was a flavorless dud.
On the bright side, those budget-friendly lunch prices projected on the wall were tempting. If we lived nearby, a midday stop for a wallet-friendly bite might be worth a shot. But for this round, Hwangso Gozip didn't earn a repeat visit from us.
Bonus for smokers: There's a designated smoking area, so light up your taste buds with a spice if that's your jam. The place will also be blasting KPop songs in the background. So, there you have it. Hwangso Gozip: a mixed bag that left us wanting more spice (both literal and metaphorical). Choose wisely,...
Read moreAs part of their soft opening, I had the pleasure of tasting the Korean pork soup from the lunch menu at this promising new establishment. From the very first spoonful, it became clear that this is the finest Korean pork soup to grace Atlanta’s dining scene.
The soup showcases a meticulous attention to ingredient quality, with each component contributing to a harmonious and satisfying bowl. The pork is tender and succulent, simmered to perfection, while the broth is rich and deeply flavorful without being overpowering. Notably, the kimchi is expertly balanced—not overly sweet, but with a tangy kick that complements the dish splendidly.
The ambiance of the restaurant adds to the overall experience, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere that enhances the meal. Coupled with attentive and personable service, the visit is nothing short of delightful.
I enthusiastically recommend this establishment to all who appreciate authentic Korean cuisine. Give it a try—you’ll find it’s worth every bit of your time and taste buds. Rest assured, my endorsement comes from genuine appreciation and not...
