I entered Toastys confused, the location is a bit abstract, it seems like it is shoved into the first story and a half of an office building in downtown duluth. I approached the counter and no one was there. I yelled into the kitchen and heard “Just a second I’ve gotta take this bread out of the oven!” Fresh made bread made in house, this place had peaked my interest. Shortly after a burly man came out. He took my order and was quite friendly. We talked for a few minutes, I found out that he was the owner. We talked about his business and where he comes from. What I wanted to find out was, Does the chef have passion? This one had it in spades. We chatted about his philosophy about herbs and fresh ingredients. He source’s almost everything locally. I was very excited to taste the food. When I sat down to try the food, it exceeded my expectations. This restaurant was able to elevate a cold turkey sandwich. I don’t even like cold turkey sandwiches, I saw a soup and sandwich deal and wanted to try two things for the price of 1. The soup was delicious. Seasoned to perfection. I walked out with both of those for under 10$, in fact the whole menu was under 10$. I will for sure return, I am excited to try the more complex items...
Read moreMy family visits Duluth at least twice a year. When we do, it is my task to scout out restaurants. I found what I thought was a gem but found out quickly that it is not. 3 of us got the turkey Tom, and my youngest kids got the kids burger, and 1 of them had a PB&J. As my kids were eating their burgers, I saw that the meat was a little pink/red in the center. I asked myself, should I be worried? Nobody at the counter asked me how they liked their burger meat, which should have been much first sign something was off. Immediately after consuming one of my kids, they said they didn't feel good, rushed to the bathroom, and had the runs for the next 10 minutes. He had stomach pain for the rest of the day. The next morning, his brother woke up throwing up. I am waiting for my daughter to get sick as well since she also consumed a burger. The rest of the food was just okay; if you have had a turkey sandwich, it's exactly that a turkey sammich with 0 condiments on the bread. The highlight was the tomato soup; it was flavorful and delicious. If you do decide to come here, keep your kids away from the burgers. Since two of the three that ate burgers got severely sick from what I assume was food poisoning, we will not...
Read moreWe found Toasty's looking for a quick lunch place and were so glad with our choice. While it wasn't too busy while we were here, the interior looks brand new and is beautifully decorated, very comfortable and clean. The menu has a lot of choices and the sandwiches we got were all great. The service was incredibly friendly, and the employee who took our order came by to make sure everyone was satisfied with their food and brought us each some water and went above and beyond to be helpful. Since we were visiting and hadn't been to Duluth before, the employee was so friendly and helpful and spent time talking with us, giving us recommendations and even a tourist magazine to help us navigate the area. We decided on our next thing to do based on her recommendations and ideas.
I would absolutely recommend Toasty's to anybody looking for either a quick bite or a nice place to have a meal and hang out. A great way to start our trip to Duluth! A special thanks to the employee who helped us out and made our experience...
