Was really looking forward to dinner on Thanksgiving. We arrived an hour earlier than our reservation time and wanted to enjoy a cocktail at the bar. I got a cocktail with a old, brown lime wedge and my husband had an Old Fashioned with a big, cloudy ice cube. We let the host know we had arrived, since the bartender never offered to. We had to wait 25 minutes after our reservation time because “the servers need a break”. When one department in an establishment makes excuses for another, there is a management issue. When seated, we ordered a bottle of white wine by name, but the server needed the bin number. Hence, the server did not know the list. The list was not vast in any way. The wine was served and left on the table sans wine chiller. Not once when food was brought was anything explained. Food just dropped and no offer to assist serving, as everything is “family style”. No one asked about any food allergies or preferences. All our sides were crowded onto one oval plate, and yet I noticed other tables’ sides were served in separate dishes. There was zero table maintenance ( table wet from wine bottle, and remnants from each course remained on the table throughout, and the salt and pepper shakers were disgusting store-bought vessels that looked filthy) I had to take them, apprehensively from the table next to us. Why does it seem most people’s expectations so low? The server did not need to take any orders, yet regardless of the service received they automatically get 20%? Let’s move on to food. Dropping food and walking away is not service. Why doesn’t someone explain the choices and sauces? The salad dressing was unbalanced (over acidic)and not cold. The entree food and sides were not hot. The turkey “breast” was clearly a processed meat, and the “prime rib” was not prime. We got 2 thick non consecutive slices of what may have been top round, at best. Am I an authority on beef? Sort of. When a kitchen is literally plating the same food all day and it is not served hot, that is an issue. The room was noisy, poorly lit, and I could not identify anyone that looked like a manager, nor did anyone identify themselves as such. The final issue was waiting too long for a valet to retrieve our car. It was a very surprising and disappointing visit. There are definite opportunities for...
Read moreBest birthday experience feeling they went all out for us from hand written card, champagne, chef special hors d'oeuvre, and dessert w/candle - all complimentary. I thought they went above and beyond making the bday girl feel special. They did not skimp. This is not a place to go to if you're on a budget however I'll pay more anyway of the week rather than throw away $ on mediocre, it's all about exceptional taste and experience. Initially we started are celebration rooftop for a cocktail, great views, and sunset. Be aware to go early as the closer to sunset the more people start arriving even on a Mon. They were out of a component to make the cocktail I wanted, very disappointing then my partner had Tropical Heatwave which was horrible, no heat and tasted like sour mix having to return it. Cocktails for us are synonymous to great food and they failed. The choices are also somewhat limited as well. Drink menu in Hew is slightly different though some of the same, the Mcqueen was better. I knew ahead of time that the sides were a la carte which is insulting considering the price you pay for an entree. I've never liked this way of thinking and definitely causes me to only consider dining here once in a while as opposed to more frequently, quite unfortunate since we're foodies. My pork was nice but not enough of a sauce or preserve that was smeared beneath, however the cornbread stuffing was spectacular! I know it sounds crazy, stuffing you say, but it really was out of this world with taste. The duck came out raw, not medium, sent back, then yummy and flavorful. Apple dessert was just ok, expected better. Our server Meghan was great! Service all around was very good. As for the decor, it lacked greatly w/nothing but a few wall hangings but beyond that they've yet to create an atmosphere, it's rather stark. It needs some color, accents, better table candles and warmth. Overall bc of the service and some of the food we'd check it out again. We'd also go to the rooftop more often but stick w/wine. The hotel itself has lots of...
Read moreLet me start by saying, I’ve been to Hew Parlor & Chophouse several times before New Years Eve 2021. I’ve been there for Brunch, lunch, dinner and special events like “Cupcakes & Cocktails” & “Afternoon Tea”. Every single visit has been way below our expectations.
I’ve never felt compelled to leave a review before now, but the experience on New Years Eve was so awful, I had to leave one. We were lead into a small room with cheap chairs, tables, and plastic tablecloth’s. It reminded me of a dirty room at a convention center they would do job fairs in. We sat down at our table and immediately noticed how dirty our water and wine glasses were. We are not high maintenance people, but you would not believe the film on these glasses. Our server was completely inexperienced and disinterested in making our evening special. They had one top Champagne to choose from by the glass and he didn’t even know what the name was. After waiting over 30 minutes for our cocktails, I received a warm glass of Champagne. We ordered our meal and each course started to come out very slowly. The first course was some sort of tartlet and it was literally as small as a crouton. The presentation was a mess. The second course was supposed to be a nice salad, but we received a pile of mushy black eyed peas with some corn and a couple slices of a dill pickle from a jar on top. My entrée was the biggest disappointment. I ordered the Filet and it was cold as ice and the presentation was a complete mess. Last but not least, we received our dessert. I was supposed to receive a lovely, rich chocolate tart. I received a tiny looking bite sized cookie that looked like someone had already taken a bite out of it. That’s how broken and what a mess the presentation was. We were with another couple and we each paid $300 per couple. This was seriously the worst overpriced meal we have ever had. We are locals and tried to give this place a fair shake time and time again. Not sure we’ll go...
