We spent the night in Durango on our way back from the Grand Canyon. I looked up the highest rated coffee shop in Durango in the morning and this was it. Inside is very large and spacious, with beautiful decor. But that is where the good ends. I ordered a vanilla latte, but they were out of vanilla. As a coffee shop owner for 15 years, running out of vanilla is not allowed. This is something that should never happen in a coffee shop. But such is life, things happen. I got a brewed coffee instead. It was ok. Not great, but not bad. My wife got an Americano. It was weak and flavorless and she did not drink it. She ended up pouring it out later. Sadly, their pastry case was nearly empty, even though it was not busy when we were there. I looked behind the counter and they had plastic bins full of pastries as supplied by their vendor - sitting on the floor. Not the best place for pastries. That isn't where I'd keep food I intend to sell to customers. There were two employees on shift, neither were busy, but they left the pastry case empty and the food on the floor. We ended up sitting at a table near the espresso bar. One of the employees accidentally dumped about five pounds of ground coffee on the floor that was stored in a plastic trash bag. Again, as a coffee shop owner, it is just pure laziness to pre-grind a day's worth of coffee in advance, and then keep it in a trash bag. Terrible operations management... This is a neat location, but our experience was poor. I'll try the second highest rated place next time I go to Durango. Based on other reviews, I'm guessing our experience was not typical. Beware - your...
Read moreMy wife and I are local and visit here frequently. We will no longer be supporting this business due to discrimination in our opinion. We fully support and respect restaurants enforcing no pets (but allowing legitimate service animals). Our experience was we recently visited with our small dog (not a service animal) and while ordering from manager (possible owner but we believe just manager-she had black hair) and she asked if our dog was a service animal and we gladly informed her is was not. She said we would have to eat/drink outside as they only allow service animals. We completely understood. As we were waiting another gentleman walked in with a dog and clearly knew the barista and manager as he continued talking with them about his latest bumping of his head and chatting about all of them catching dinner. Well he was never told to leave and he continued to sit down and enjoy his coffee. That is fine but the thing was his dog was CLEARLY not a service dog as it kept trying to get to our dog and barking at our dog (ours just sat looking at the other dog). If it had been a legit service animal it would have NEVER acted the way it did. For this reason only we will never support this business again as the said manager chose to enforce this with us but not her friend. It should be enforced with EVERYONE, not just ppl she...
Read moreFirst and last experience at DCC. Apparently, we didn’t fit the mold of their regular customers. A simple order of two coffees and two breakfast items where multiple visits were required to the counter to get our order. When placing our order, we requested that our two items be heated. After waiting longer than necessary based on how quickly other orders were filled, the first return counter visit was for a quiche, which we finally got. Upon finishing our coffees and quiche, another visit to the counter was required to check on the muffin. We were told that it “was being heated” so returned to our table. After 10 minutes, still no muffin. I retuned to the register to ask that a refund be processed for the muffin as we were to board the train soon. After the order taker looked through various orders on the screen/register, we were told that “their system was down” and a refund could not be processed. Yet, they continued to take orders from others on the same system. We noticed that other customers orders were being called out by name, yet no one ever asked for ours when ordering so we were pretty much on our own from the start. This may be a good place, and this could be a one-off, but the first impression was way less...
