We came here because of the Google reviews. It makes me a believer that Google reviews can be bought. It was the worst food experience we have ever had, minus the salad. The salad was great. I ordered the Main Street Pot Roast for $22, my husband ordered the Country Fried Steak for $29. The salads were an additional $10 each. I asked the waitress which she recommended, the Pot Roast or the Chicken and Dumplings with house made dumplings. She quickly recommended the pot roast. When the food arrived, the pot roast was served in a large soup bowl, in a deep slurry or broth with vegetables that had been cooked so long that they had lost all flavor and barely held their original form. If I didn’t know what was supposed to be served, I would have thought it was a soup, there was so much broth. Let’s talk about the roast, or lack there of. I honestly think they threw in chipped beef, maybe an ounce of it, maybe, that’s it and it was mostly in tiny chunks about the size of a pea, I could not find much meat, at all. Then there were the secret mashed potatoes, hidden at the bottom of the broth, never to be found, unless you accidentally scraped the bottom on the bowl. They tasted funny, most likely powdered not fresh. My husband meal was the country fried steak, which looked and tasted like a low cost TV Dinner. Nothing here is made fresh. The veggies were from a frozen bag, the fried steak appeared to be microwaved or set in a toaster oven and the brown gravy tasted like salty McCormicks not made well, and you already know about the weird tasting mashed potatoes. One of the employees walked up to us with what seemed to be purpose and asked pensively how the food was. He knew, he knew it wasn’t good. Before I said anything he was already making comments regarding the meat in the pot roast and that the potatoes weren’t the best. I was so grossed out, I couldn’t help but be very honest and I told him the food was awful. It was awful, even the butter roll had a slight funk taste to it. So, in all, the ice water was good (good luck on refills) and the salad was good. The employee that came by, at least, waived the secret stew I was served. I didn’t press for him to waive my husbands meal. He ate his steak, because he was starved, that was the only reason. We had hiked all day with very little to eat, he would have eaten cardboard. I was going for good food in a cool environment. My recommendation, skip it. Chef Ramsey would have closed that kitchen. The tab, even after the waived...
Read moreI suppose one is more likely to write a review for poor service than good. Prior to today I would have rated this a 5 star. We’ve lived in Durango all winter now and considered the Diamond Belle our go to place for either lunch or dinner. We stopped in for a late lunch today. There was only one waitress who was talking to the bartender when we seated ourselves. We walked by her so she had to have known we were there. Possibly 3 or 4 other tables had one or two customers. Pretty light work load. We waited five minutes watching her wander around the bar like a lost child but doing nothing. She eventually came to the table with menus after wandering by the tables that had already been served. We ordered water and beer while looking at the food menu. We already knew the menu by heart so they were folded up to signal we were ready to order. I waited for the beer and watched her again wander around the room. Five minutes or more went by and there was no beer. I waived over a bartender and asked to speak to the bar manager in hopes of getting served. The manager never showed so I left a note for the him at the bartender’s request and we left for a different restaurant. I left my name and phone # and haven’t heard anything. It’s really disappointing after all the great times we’ve had there. The most troubling part was the manager avoiding a customer request to talk. I managed people in a large customer service business for my career. I and any other manager would have wanted to know about a problem with their employees. We are really disappointed and now wont take our out of town visitors to our favorite place in fear of another bad...
Read moreFun enjoyable atmosphere with an old west themed decor, accented by a piano player extraordinaire! Lonesome Dove meets Durango. This restaurant, well located in old town Durango, was near full capacity, however a table in close proximity to the piano, was found within a few minutes. This very skilled piano player aka the piano man, was the heart and soul of our evening. He was knowledgeable, accomplished playing a variety of favorites, spanning several decades, while also accepting requests. For dinner, the hotel-themed burger w/ fries and a local craft beer was ordered, while my wife ordered the Cobb salad with a glass of Chardonnay. Decent meals w/ decent pricing. The only criticism involves our forgetful waitress. Three times she had to be reminded of our simple request for a straw for our glasses of water. Most restaurants where we have dined instruct the waitstaff to carry straws with them, but apparently not here! Strangely inefficient! Beyond that however was completely forgetting the strawberry ice cream we’d ordered for dessert. Reason, this particular blonde-haired waitress apparently does not consider it necessary to write down the order. This practice is always a major warning sign to me. Come on ownership - instruct your wait staff to write down orders table-side and not to rely on what is often a faulty inefficient memory! Seems intuitive to me and a basic fundamental when serving customers. Kitchen confidential, I wondered how renowned chef and food critic Anthony Bourdain might have opined under similar experiences. Though disappointed by our waitress’ inattentiveness to our order, will we...
