My wife and I used to love P.F. Chang's. I guess I should've checked recent reviews before door-dashing tonight's family dinner. Would've been better served ordering from the local mom-and-pop Chines take-out for fraction of a cost. I mean, even Panda Express would've passed for fine dining compared to absolute garbage we received today.
What a bitter disappointment, especially considering $170 price tag. First of all, all the prices doubled and portions shrunk in half. Even though they aren't the only restaurant doing this, I was actually worried that the food wouldn't be enough for 6 people. Turns out, I worried for nothing because there were plenty of leftovers, simply because food was inedible. The dinner made me feel completely ripped off. Here's a full list of items:
Appetizers:
Northern-Style Por Spare Ribs ($18.79) - tiny, burnt and dry. My wife immediately noticed how pathetic they looked. The taste did nothing to improve the first impression.
Shrimp Dumplings ($15.89) - edible but meh.
Vegetable Spring Rolls ($10.99) - absolutely disgusting. I don't know how you can screw up egg-rolls. Could definitely taste cooking oil that was way past changing time.
Main dishes:
Mongolian beef ($28.99) - teeny tiny portion of paper thin slices that were very dry. My kids called the dish Mongolian Beef Jerky.
Sesame Chicken ($22.29) - probably a 6 out of 10, marginally passable but if I spend the rest of my life without ever trying it again, I won't regret it.
Crispy Honey Shrimp ($26.79) - absolutely disgusting and inedible. Notice the word "crispy" in the name of the dish? Um...yeah, it was severely undercooked, so that the batter coating the shrimp was chewy, rubbery and repulsive. Again, this was completely inedible.
Sides:
Fried Rice ($16.99) - clumpy mess. I don't know how stupid you have to be to not even get this simple dish right.
Signature Lo Mein ($18.29) - this was fine. Felt a bit on the greasy side but compared to other dishes wasn't terrible.
Overall, if I could give this experience 0 stars it would still be...
Read moreThis place calculates suggested tips on ala cart prices, even if you order from their prix fixe menu.
Imagine going to a restaurant where your main dish comes with 2 sides for x price, but then the suggested tip is calculated as if you purchased two ala cart sides and your main dish. That would make no sense.
Imagine buying a kid's meal that comes with a drink and side, and the tip being calculated as if you purchased a drink and side ala cart in addition to the child's main dish. It would make no sense to program your POS machine to do this.
I have Celiac disease and needed a quick gluten-free meal. My husband and I ordered the Chef's Feast. It's a $19.49 pp prix fixe menu that comes with soup or salad, a main and an appetizer to share.
If items are marked gluten-free and you ask them to be gluten-free, they're subject to a $1 each upcharge.
The meal was mediocre and I ended up drinking my husband's water because I couldn't get a refill from staff - not even the manager guy who was rearranging soy sauce bottles on empty tables.
When the check came, my husband noticed that PF Chang's is lying about the dollar amounts being certain percentages on the bottom of the check. See photo.
The receipt read: Subtotal $40.98 Tax $3.43 Total $44.41 Balance Due $44.41
For Your Convenience, Suggested tip before any discounts: 20% ($14.44) 22% ($15.88) 25% ($18.05)
$8.196 is 20% of $40.98. (Pre-tax total.) $8.882 is 20% of $44.41 (Taxed total.) $14.44 is 35.24% of $40.98. $14.44 is 32.52% of $44.41.
This is so shady because tourists, especially foreign tourists, may be too worried about being rude to not put down the amount suggested on the receipt. It's...

Food review:
Singapore Sling -- Strong cocktail. It tasted like cough syrup. I don't recommend it.
Chang's Lettuce Wraps -- Refreshing and not too salty. The only thing I feel a little odd was there was no sauce came with the dish, while I usually get some in other restaurants.
Tempura Calamari & Vegetables -- It was okay. The portion was bigger than I thought.
California Roll -- Well...ordinary. Sushi rice + cucumber + crab meat stick.
Spicy Chicken -- It tasted like orange chicken from Panda Express, but with more spice flavor such as scallion and garlic. If you want some orange chicken but Panda Express is the only place you have gotten before, then this dish will taste more "normal" to you.
Orange Chicken -- This was literally "orange" chicken because it was so rich in citrus taste and smell. I loved this dish but my friend had different preference since she only had Panda Express orange chicken before. She thought it was weird 🤷. It was made by chicken breast instead of dark meat. I was surprised how tender and juicy the chicken was. Love it!
Chicken Pad Thai -- A little bit too sweet. I am not a fan of pad Thai.
Fried Rice -- Soy sauce fried rice. I wished I could taste more scallion spice and the rice could be not so sticky.
Overall experience:
It is not a bad place for get together. However, if you are a picky foodie, this place may not be the best choice for the price wise. ($40+ per person was what I...
