My family visited Rosa's for the first time yesterday on recommendation from a friend.
It was nothing like I expected, its a large space so we figured, sit down, menu in hand, order from waitress, e.t.c.
It's not like that at all. You order it fast food style at a counter, you get a number, pick your table and wait for your number to be called and grab your food. When done you leave your stuff at the table (at least that's what everyone around us was doing, so we did too).
The food is reasonably priced but I couldn't give it more than 3 stars for various reasons.
First was that I asked what was in the beef enchilada. I did this because I'm a picky eater and if there's something I don't like in it I'm not the pick out kind of person, I actually get physically Ill. The woman taking our order said "just beef in tortilla with red sauce and cheese on top." Ok, totally harmless. I subbed black beans since refried beans are like the ABC gum of the bean world. My bf and I each ordered tamales we each ordered 2 pork and 1 chicken.
When we got our food the tamale order confused us as they were packaged strangely. We had 3 sets of them. We placed our own individual orders on the same bill but it shouldn't be assumed to put it together. And our order was wrong. We didn't bother fixing it. We recieved 1 foil package with 3 pork tamales. Another foil package with 2 more pork and a last foil package with 1 chicken tamale. This worked in our favor actually since the chicken tamale was terrible, it was dry and tasteless. With a little sauce the pork tamales were edible.
My beef enchiladas were not just beef, onion and crunchy green peppers accompanied the beef. I returned to the serving window and said something about this explaining that I asked what was in it before ordering. At first no one seemed to understand the problem, so I explained a few more times. Another worker came over she then said something I didn't quite understand that something was in the beef (the onion & pepper mixture). I again relayed that I asked before ordering, had I been told those 2 things were in it, I'd have ordered something else. She seemed annoyed as she rudely dumped the remaining food into the garbage. She then said that the ladies taking orders don't know what's in the food. I replied that of they work there they should. Totally appalled by that attitude, it's not just your job to take orders, you need to be informed for when people ask questions, when you go guessing or omitting that's when mistakes are made. She then offered chicken or cheese enchiladas as replacement. I didn't want cheese, just too greasy and not all that healthy but didn't have much of a choice when she didn't tell me what was in the chicken when asked. So cheese it was. I did get more black beans as I stated not to bother giving me rice and to hold the lettuce and tomato as well.
I joined my family back at the table. I devoured my black beans, they were the saving grace of this entire dining experience. The cheese enchiladas were gross so I threw them out. The tortilla they were wrapped in tasted like paste and they were just not something I'd ever recommend.
My daughter seemed to enjoy her nachos. Our guest liked her meal though not her refried beans and tried a pork tamale and was glad she didn't purchase any as she stated they were terrible.
My bf liked the crispy tacos and sampled my black beans and went in for a 2nd larger taste which is saying a lot because beans are not his thing.
The sopapillas were so-so. They were cold. But at least we can say we tried them.
The salsas left a bit to be desired, the hot one wasn't hot (disappointing), the mild one was bland.
Overall I'd give it another try but likely just stick to black beans and maybe a crispy taco. There are better food options in the Glade area and better service with more knowledgeable staff, though it may cost a bit more (or the same depending on where you wind up) but for the 4 of us dining it was a...
Read moreThis is an authentic Mexican food restaurant that has awesome food. You enter and go through a cafeteria style line to order your meal. Your receipt prints your order number which is displayed above the pickup window on a flat screen monitor. It's Salsa bar has every heat level of hotsauce and fresh garnishments such as onions and green Verde sauce. You serve yourself in small individual cups with optional lids. The soda fountain are also self serve. if you request water you are given clear serving cups. The cups are durable Styrofoam cold retaining and brightly colored. The restaurant is decorated in non-matching authentic Mexican Style. It has a glass wall allowing you to view your food being prepared and served behind the glass wall there is a tortilla machine constantly making fresh tortillas that is a mechanical addition for anyone to see and children are fascinated by it. The seating is brightly colored tables and chairs with colorful tile tops. The tables are arranged in the wide open floor plan that is lined by vinyl covered boothes. A very large picture glass window is next to all boothes. You also have an option to find outside on the patio extension. There is tons of wall art from Mexico, lots of pottery and plants of the artificial and real kind in hanging baskets and all through out the decor. The food is awesome and beer or margaritas are served as well as soda and peach flavored tea. Food is served fast and you anever leave hungry. This Retaraunt can brighten your mood, nourish your body and leave you feeling ready to carry on after a day of shopping or running errands. My favorite is the sour cream chicken enchilada dinner served with rice and beans. The dinners and drinks are moderately priced.
Rosa's is one of my favorite...
Read moreThis was my second visit to a Rosa's in two weeks. First my wife and I went to one location, then my son and daughter-in-law selected this for a dinner less than two weeks later. Experiences were pretty much identical, so merely repeating the review for both locations. Hard to pinpoint what Rosa’s exactly is. Because you order as you enter and then pick up food when your name is announced, it is technology a fast-food restaurant. But, given the level of décor and the size of the place, if really does not fit a fast-food prototype. Also, the in-house tortillas set it way above fast food. The salsa bar with several levels of heat and red and green choices, along with pico and jalapenos is an excellent addition. As is the honey available to make the tortillas into desert. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu that our group tried or that we have had in the past. Personal favorites are the Mexican Dinner, and all of their Enchiladas. Yes the calorie counts are out of this world high, but what do you expect when things are covered with cheese and loaded with fat. So, don’t go often, but worth a treat now and then. Been to a couple locations and the service levels and the food...
