If I could rate this place 0 stars I would. I was on a bachelorette party spending the weekend in Flagstaff. As a fun group activity we decided to do the alpine pedaler and we picked Uptown Pubhouse as a stop. THIS WAS A HUGE MISTAKE. When we walked up to the bar a female bartender very rudely threw up her hands and said "Before anything I'm going to need to check ids... I'm not doing this one at a time bullsh*t." We were as a group a little taken aback by this woman's abruptness, but obliged her request as we understand her needing to verify our ages. One of our group members had just recently relocated to Chicago and had a temporary paper id given to her by the state of Chicago and punched a hole in her old drivers license. Again, she acted very unprofessional telling us she wouldn't accept the id. So we let her know we weren't trying to be difficult but didn't understand why she couldn't accept it when other bars/ TSA/ etc had accepted it as a valid form of Id. It really wasn't a big deal for her to not accept an id. I get it, we were in a college town and maybe she was suspect. The problem was that Instead of kindly explaining why she was uncomfortable accepting the Id, she persisted with her extremely rude behavior to our group. She also yelled at someone else for being too close to a pool table, throwing in more profanities to her patrons. It was at this point that all 20 of us decided to walk out of the bar, no drinks purchased. She was inexplicably ill-mannered from the moment we walked in, to when we left. I understand some bachelorette parties are a lot to take in, however, I would not have put ours in that category seeing as we were all mostly mothers in our 30's. There was simply no reason for that kind of mistreatment. I certainly hope they have some training in professionalism or choose to eliminate themselves as a stop from the pedaler tour if they are not friendly to larger...
Read moreIt was a cute place and pretty busy for a Tuesday night. One of the few places that was opened beyond 9:00pm and good selection of beer/drinks. The male bartender was wicked nice and made a really good Moscow mules. I gave this place 3 stars because we got 4 drinks and our bill was $48 and some change so plan to spend some money plus leave a tip. Also you have to pay for your pool time. However, the rating came from the fact that I had two charges on my statement, one for 63.79 and another for 48.23. I have no idea where these numbers came from considering our bill was 48.23 and we left an 8 dollar tip, that total should have been 56.23 - for 4 drinks. I called uptown pub house to question the transaction and the female was rude at first offering no hope stating I had to come in to dispute it. However we were just stopping through flagstaff one night on our way from the Grand Canyon like I imagine many people do. So that wasn’t going to happen. Also, I never received a receipt and her question to me was, did I ask for one. Which i thought was a weird question. Also at the time questioned why our bill was so high but never looked at a bill because The bartender just told me a price and used the card that was on file. I’m sure double charging my card was an accident but now I have to eat that money because of someone else’s mistake. She took my name and number and said a manager will call me back when their in town. Don’t know what that meant either but never received a call back. Disappointed. Honestly we should have just stayed at Beaver street brewery, their beer was amazing, the food was so delicious and the staff were super friendly! I recommend...
Read moreI came for the whiskey. I stayed for the whiskey. I'm sure the food was lovely, but for my lunch I had an eclectic tour of Irish whiskeys, with the occasional scotch. It is extremely rare to find so many Irish whiskeys on the menu. If your tastes run the same as mine, try the Yellow Spot, Power's John Lane, or the Red Breast Lustau. But really I recommend connecting with the bartender and letting them be your guide through whiskey town. Nancy was behind the bar for my visit and she could speak with the confidence and knowledge of a fellow connoisseur. Actually that is wrong; a 'fellow' implies parity; Nancy was more of a mentor - a spiritual guide. A spirit guide. Even the owner took a moment to say hello and talk liquor for a bit; a classy move that I appreciated. If you are like me and love a bar that is humble in appearance, but big in spirit (and spirits) then you really need to make Uptown Pubhouse a priority on your itinerary. Forgive my long-winded overly poetic review, but after all this Celtic nectar I feel like I'm channelling Joyce or Oscar Wilde - neither of whom would be so sloppy as use a pun about spirits twice in the same paragraph. Well...
