In my 32 years of eating out my birthday I've never had a LAMER dining experience.
This year for my 32nd birthday my girlfriend decided to surprise me by bringing me here. I've eaten at Brazilian steakhouses before and always had a great time and figured this would be the same, but boy was I wrong.
When we first arrived we had to wait a few mimutes to be seated, so the reservation we made was late on being ready. Not a problem.
The table we were sat at was the first table beyond the host stand located at the very end of the staircase where all of the foot traffic was. On top of that the table is exceptionally wobbly and I can see numerous 2 tops open and in other areas of the restaurant where we wouldn't be subject to ALL of the foot traffic. There's a piece of paper on the table that says my girlfriends name and that we are here for a surprise birthday, I pick it up and hold on to it.
After a few minutes our waitress comes to the table. Before introducing herself she snatches the paper from my hand to read. After reading it she looks up, introduces herself, acknowledges that it's my birthday, and takes our drink order. We get a house cocktail and a fancy $8 spring water in a cool bottle, cause my girl likes spring water and the bottle could serve as a memento to the night, and we tell her that we'll be having 1 meal with meat and 1 without because my girlfriend is vegetarian. She says cool, tells us we're good to hit the salad bar if we so desire, and she runs off to get our drinks.
While she's gone the table behind us gets noisy. I'm talking crying/screaming baby depending on what point in the night it was as well as 2 other children in their group who were MOANING low and slow like they'd just had the wind knocked out of them and were trying to catch their breath. These children stop but only during the periods of time when their parent(s) were incessantly squeaking a dog chew time. Again this went on for the entire time we were there and assuming this allows me to add a video it will be shown.
We also notice that we seem to be sat in what couldn't be described as any less than the "undesirable" section. Not to say this in a way that comes off as judgemental, because this was purely observational, but we noticed that we were sat among the loud groups, in the smallest section of the restaurant, where the tables were closest together, the foot traffic was heaviest, and more than half the people seated near us were wearing basketball shorts and stained t shirts. We weren't dressed exorbitantly but we were dressed well considering the people around us.
By the time our drinks arrive my girlfriend had eaten her entire plate of salad, and I mine, and I'd been through several rounds of meat. I'm not sure on the exact timing of it but it was far too long to wait for a bottle of water at the very least.
I continue to eat, and eat, and eat for about 45 minutes until our waitress comes back and drops off all the sides that are supposed to come with the meal. She dropped off mashed potatoes, French fries, and some fried plantains. All of them are delicious but cons8der8ng we've already been stuffing our faces for 45 minutes we hardly have room for them and eat bits of each and leave them to the side to take with us when we leave.
About 10 minutes later, our waitress comes back to check on us, wishing me a happy birthday again, and we say we're ready for the bill. She does as all good waitresses do and asked if we would like a desert before we leave. I say that I'm diabetic and trying to watch my sugar so I don't really NEED anything and she says, "are you sure? We have some wonderful deserts, I can bring the cart around for you to see and you can buy whhich one you'd like."
Buy? Now this wasn't a final straw, but it was close. I have been to abacus, bulla, and nobu on birthdays and NEVER been asked to buy a desert on a birthday.
At the end of the meal our sides and bottle were thrown away without a word and I have no room to type more.
Pictures for squeaking and...
Read moreI have been coming here many times a year for as long as I can remember, as it is my absolute favorite restaurant. I have not had a bad experience until my last two times dining in. I have served and bartended in fine dining for 5 years now and can say I am very lenient on service because I understand the stress and pressure servers and bartenders deal with on a daily basis. My last two times at Texas De Brazil, I’ve had Eddie as my server and can say it’s easily the worst service I have received (whether that be fine dining or not). In my second-to-last visit, we were waiting for the bill for 20 minutes after asking for it, while we could see Eddie standing and talking to another server. In my most recent visit (Friday, June 6th), we were visiting for my birthday and he could not tell us what meats were being served, and I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I get that servers can be tongue-tied at times. I should have known this was just the start of what would be an awful showing of his skills. After visiting the salad bar and finishing, we waited 10 minutes until a manager or server assistant came by to clear our plates. After flipping all of our cards to the green side, we waited another 10 minutes to catch Eddie’s attention while walking by. He asked what meats we wanted and we said “any”. I get that the meats take time to cook, but while waiting, we saw them brought out to our neighboring tables then going the opposite way. About 20 more minutes later, the meat finally arrived. At this time, the restaurant was not busy anymore and there was no excuse at this point. Not once did Eddie walk by to ask if we needed any more bananas, potatoes, or cheese bread. Another server or server assistant locked eyes with us and asked if we needed more. After we had finished with the meats, Eddie was nowhere to be seen, and a manager or server assistant cleared the table for us. Our waters were not refilled one time. The only time we could get Eddie’s attention was when he was resetting the tables next to us . When Eddie’s finally came by to discuss desserts, he had a hard time again reciting what they were (even with the presentation of each). Like I said before, I get that servers can be tongue-tied, but with everything that happened, it makes me wonder if he was on something, because alcohol run rampant in the food service industry. After finishing dessert, we waited a while for Eddie to come by and ask about the bill. Never do I tip below 30% when dining out, but I was extremely temped to stiff Eddie due to the utterly appalling service we received. We left around 13% because we understand that tips are probably shared with other servers and server assistants. If it were just Eddie receiving the tip, I would’ve not hesitated to leave $0. If a manager reads this, please keep an eye on him, because I don’t think y’all want him representing the restaurant. I know how good this restaurant is and might start driving to another location just to combat the odds of having him as a server ever again. On a slightly happier note, the meats were almost on par with how they have been in the past. The meat quality almost brought this up to two stars, but the service was so atrocious that I can’t give anything more...
Read moreMy visit on 05/11 was one of the worst dining experiences we have all ever had. I have waited to send this email just to ensure that I was not being overly dramatic or complaining for no reason
Let me start by saying this had nothing to do with the food, wait staff (servers/cooks) and everything to do with whoever that manager is. I am unsure of his name but am told he behaves like this with all the customers and is even worse to the wait staff which I cannot even imagine his treatment of them if he is treating pay customers as he is.
We had a large party of 8 adults and 3 kids. We had the reservation set for 8:30. However some of our party was there early around 7:50ish but our entire party was there by 8:15. I understand them having to get the table ready for us and needing time for that on a busy weekend for Mother’s Day- however, why is the restaurant accepting so many reservations or walk ins if they cannot accommodate for the ones that have already been planned in advance. There was no communication from the manager other than “it’s not ready. It’ll be 15 mins.” Those 15 mins passed and the table still wasn’t ready. When my sister confronted the manager about the wait he said “Once we get you seated you’ll eat some meat then you’ll feel better” were the exact words which we took as you’re just hungry not actually mad about the awful service. While he is saying this a hostess behind him apologized showing that he was at fault for the way he answered my sister. I told him “it’s Mother’s Day and you’re really gonna talk to a mother like that” and he tried to say something after that but of course we weren’t listening once he already disrespected us. He constantly made comments that were disrespectful about how we should understand a restaurant has to sit smaller parties first.
We finally ended up sitting down 45 mins AFTER our reservation time. Again, I get it, we were a large party, but the disrespect from a manager who is supposed to be in charge was not needed nor warranted. There were at least 10 parties who came in and sat down immediately some small some of 5-7 people which makes no sense in our mind and there was no communication for that. We had 3 kids, one of which at that point was crying for food which we had thought within 30 mins he would eat, but turned out that wasn’t the case due to the lack of leadership, and ability to run a restaurant smoothly.
This whole experience left an awful taste in our food even though the wait staff and cooks did their best, it couldn’t make up for the managers sheer disrespect of the mothers in our group. I would hope someone is held liable for this due to us wasting around 500$+ for a meal that couldn’t be enjoyed properly. I had planned to talk to him after our meal but he was nowhere to be found by the...
