Food was great; service was terrible. We had a party of 12, joined the waitlist which said to check in when we arrived. So we go in and let them know; they said they’d get the table ready and come back in when the whole party had arrived. In the 6ish minutes it took my parents to get from the parking lot to the restaurant, they had given away our table. We went back in and let the front servers know we are all arrived, and they said it’ll be a half an hour wait. Well, wait, we had just been told they were getting our table ready. The manager (at least he seemed to be) interjects and snaps “I’ve got a two hour wait time right now and it’s been 10 minutes since we told you your table was ready, we only hold for 5 minutes.” I tried to argue that—based on the current time and the time the text was sent, it had been only 6 minutes, but he argued so we just let it go and walked out to wait our 20 minutes. My husband goes back in a bit later just to check we’re still on the waitlist, and the manager snipes at him for it, repeating the 5 minute time limit. My husband explains we didn’t know there was a 5 minute time limit because the first host/server told us they would get our table ready, to which the manager replied “it was in the text.” So of course my husband shows him it was not, to which the manager got all blustery and said “well, it doesn’t matter.” And tried to cover up his obvious lie. The front staff—while we waited outside—also kicked my sister out of the indoor waiting area because she’d come in with her baby to get away from the thick cigarette smoke smell that was outside from some other customers. Even though other people were waiting inside. It’s like they singled her out because she was in our group. So weird. As someone who has worked in the food service industry, our whole interaction with the front staff/manager was appalling. The food was great; our server was short with us but civil. Never brought drink refills, but it was busy and we were a big party, so that can be overlooked. It’s a bummer the front staff was so rude because we would come back otherwise. As it is, there are plenty of similar places in the area with much...
Read moreI had so many recommendations to try this place for breakfast, so my husband and I came here for breakfast the one day during our vacation. The place was completely packed and we waited about 40-50 minutes outside for a table. We even went ahead and joined the waitlist before we drove into gatlinburg and it was just THAT BUSY. I got the White Oak Flats Egg Benedict with 1 biscuit and gravy on the side, and my husband got the Black Bear Camp Skillet. I want to start off by saying the food wasn't anything special.. it wasn't gross and it wasn't amazing. I wish I would've known how big the biscuits were or I wouldn't even had ordered on on the side for myself. My husbands skillet came with one already and we could've just shared his. The biscuits aren't your ordinary biscuits, they're baked in like a brownie dish together then cut like brownies, so they are big! Just not flavorful.. The Eggs Benedict breakfast was good. Again, wasn't anything special. Wasn't the best Eggs Benedict I've had and wasn't the worst. Both mine and my husband's food were completely cold.. every single item on both our plates (his skillet) were cold... and even though the potatoes were good those were the coldest on the plate. Like ice cold. My husband and I aren't complainers, so we still ate the food. We were just confused on why everything was so cold when they were so busy?! Shouldn't the food be coming off hot since the back is busy? Idk.. maybe the chefs weeebt busy but the servers were so it took them forever to get the food to us? Idk I feel like the food came out fast so idk what happened there. My husband wasn't too impressed with his skillet. Again, he said everything was cold and just mediocre. Nothing stood out to him besides his pancake. I will admit the sweet corn pone and their pancakes were to DIE FOR! If I ever go back to gatlinburg I will be stopping here just for the pancakes! I definitely recommend the pancakes! They were so flavorful, thick, and fluffy. Idk maybe my husband and I didn't get the right food to try there, but it still doesn't change the fact that the...
Read moreDuring my recent trip to Gatlinburg, I had the pleasure of dining at Crockett’s Breakfast Camp, a local favorite named after a Gatlinburg historian. The restaurant's rustic cabin decor, rich in character and historical value, truly set the tone for an authentic and memorable experience.
Upon arrival, we noticed a line out the door, a testament to its popularity. Despite the crowd, the wait system was impressively efficient, and we were seated in a timely manner. Our waitress was subtle but very prompt and attentive, ensuring our needs were met throughout the meal.
My partner opted for the Hungry Hunter's Hunt Camp Skillet, which included chopped steak and eggs, biscuit/gravy, hunter's potatoes, sweet corn bread pone, and a griddle cake. The skillet presentation added a charming touch, and my partner found the entire dish absolutely delicious. The griddle cake, in particular, stood out with its thick, crispy exterior and fluffy interior—a delightful twist on a classic pancake.
I chose the bologna platter, which came with 2 eggs, toast, hunter camp potatoes, and Cherokee sweet corn pone. Having never heard of sweet corn pone before, I was pleasantly surprised by its unique and delightful flavor. The portion sizes were huge, ensuring we left with full stomachs.
While I would describe the food as average, it was very well made, and I do not want to discredit the quality. The combination of large portions, thoughtful presentation, and the restaurant's ambiance made for an enjoyable dining experience. The decor and atmosphere complemented the menu perfectly, creating a country feel that resonated with the historical essence of the establishment.
Overall, Crockett’s Breakfast Camp is a must-visit when in Gatlinburg. Whether you're a local or a visitor, the efficient service, delicious food, and inviting ambiance make it a standout breakfast spot. I look forward to returning on my next trip to Gatlinburg and exploring more of their...
