We decided to go here after being unable to get in to either of our regular restaurants in Helen. Now we wish we had gone elsewhere. The meal started off great! Quick service, drinks and bread and butter. Next we decided to order the crab cakes ( only 3 for $14 ). They were very good and we were happy. Next we ordered our main course which for me was a very HiGH PRICED 14 ounce Rib Eye (medium rare as always) with baked potato and green beans (and no salad )...$34.00!!!!!! My wife ordered the Eggplant Parmesan...$16 which was supposed to come with spaghetti noodles which the waitress said was actually fettuccine noodles...but she got ZITI noodles....hmmm? So we made sure to let the waitress know to be sure to space the appetizer and the main course so that we would not have our appetizer still on our plates when the main entrees came....which happens alot. So my wife's entree was a good portion and was the right temperature but...it was very bland. No flavor. She said it needed some salt. As for my Rib Eye...well this is where it went BAD!! First...for $34.00 I expect a GREAT STEAK. This steak was not only THIN...it was overcooked! It came out WELL DONE. So after waiting 10 minutes or so for our waitress to come back to check on us..which my wife had to wave to her to get her to come, instead of taking the whole plate back she takes the steak back to the kitchen. So now I have no steak...just a partially eaten baked potato and green beans. So thinking I'll have a new steak pretty quick...I wait a few minutes..about 10 really. No steak. So I start eating my potato and beans. So after 15 minutes...the waitress comes and says my steak will be right out. 10 minutes later a kitchen employee or maybe the chef brings me the steak. Ok so now I am just about done with my potato and beans...since I WAS hungry...I cut the steak and yea its medium rare. But I'm so upset that its taken this long..I cant eat. So my wife was unable to finish her meal since she asked for salt and pepper and it NEVER made it to our table. She only had two bites. So it cost us $73.00 for this subpar meal. We thought we would be pleased with this place since it had a nice atmosphere, and there was live music, but in the end..we just wanted to leave. I have eaten all over the country since I worked for professional race teams for 22 years.....and I have eaten in tourist towns...a lot. This meal was no where near worth what we paid. I did not take photos since it was not worth the time. We were very disappointed. I get better service and a great, large ,thick bone-in RibEye at LONGHORN for much less. We wont...

My husband and I went to Helen for the day for a good distraction. Today marks 4 years since my father passed, and we just wanted to escape. So we spent the day on the river then finally tried to find something for dinner. At the first restaurant we went to, the hostess looked me up and down judgmentally and said, "You're not wearing a shirt but if no one else mentions it I GUESS you're fine." I was wearing a very nice and modest swimsuit top with a nice skirt, so it's not like I was wearing a bikini, so we left. We went to a second restaurant and were so appalled by the prices and how the waiter made us feel pressured to order. So we paid for our drinks and left. By this point we were STARVING and we Googled once again to see what restaurants were around and still open. We saw that the Nacoochee Grill was still open and in a last ditch effort to eat we decided to go. We got there, got out of the car and were immediately greeted by a family of very happy looking customers that all said hi and asked how we were doing. Already we were being treated better and we hadn't even walked in! We walk in the door and were hit with the most inviting smells, and the friendliest staff I have ever encountered in my life! The owner, Mully, came up to us and introduced himself, said welcome and shook our hand BEFORE WE EVEN HAD A SEAT! I can not tell you how fast that melted the very bad mood we had been put in by previous restaurants! We were immediately made to feel at home! We were seated by just the friendliest lady I have met in a very long time (I regret that I did not catch her name, I really suck with names...) who told us we chose the right place and after hearing the ordeal we went through just to find a freaking meal. Our server, I believe it was Don (I hope I got that right!), came out and was just as nice as everyone else and was very fast with getting our drinks to us. He also helped me tremendously with choosing my meal and I must say that rainbow trout was to die for, excellent recommendation! Later the wonderful lady that seated us came by and told me how cute my outfit was, and was shocked when I told her it was in fact a swimsuit top! Take THAT other restaurant! All in all, our experience was like no other we have ever...
Read moreRainbow trout and salmon were insipid and the soup was really salty (the soup probably would have been decent if they hadn’t added so much salt).
My biggest gripe here is the price of the food versus what you get. I’m fine with paying more for good food. However, the quality just wasn’t there. For example, the sides were incredibly cheap. On a $30 dish I expected more than just reheated green beans and plain mashed potatoes as my sides (I mean seriously plain - just straight up crushed potatoes with nothing on them). At least some grilled asparagus with the salmon would have been a little nicer. The side dishes here reminded me of my middle school cafeteria.
My rainbow trout was bland but okay overall. Salmon was also bland. They asked how we wanted the salmon cooked which we’ve never been asked, but we said “medium”. What we ended up getting was dry and overcooked salmon.
The food here kind of reminds me of how my grandparents’ food would taste after they were diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure. All their food lacked flavor because the doctor told them they couldn’t add salt or seasonings to it. Just dull sterile food. Think airline food or hospital food. It’s edible, but not worth $30 per entrée.
Our glasses of wine arrived after we had already finished our main course. Not great.
Lastly, the portions were small. I had an appetizer, entrée, and dessert and I left hungry. Apparently there’s an extra charge for splitting your plate. This is a head scratcher because I don’t see how people could possibly share a meal and be full. Can’t imagine anyone doing that with portions this tiny.
The bread pudding and crab cakes were delicious. The waitress was very friendly. Overall though, for the price I paid ($135 on dinner for two - tip included), I feel bored, hungry,...
