The "bbq" pork had no flavor of being smoked and was very very dry. It tasted like overdone oven-cooked pulled pork. The potato salad was so bland even my 11 year old was covering it in salt and trying to mix bbq sauce in it to make it taste like something. The green beans were a redeeming side. They were very good. The sweet tea was good but they ran out after we filled a single cup. We paid $12.00 for 4 teas and when my husband told the girl working the register they were out she didn't even respond. They were not busy. They were actually a ghost town for a beautiful Saturday afternoon. He asked her "well, do you guys have any more in the back?" She said "No." He then said, "well are you going to make more?" She said, "I guess." She did make more but I felt the interaction was not very good customer service and she seemed annoyed just being there with no personality. The food was also quite expensive for barbeque. Catering to Helen tourists I suppose. They offer no child menu of any kind so my 3 year old had a large pulled pork sandwich for $8. My husband tipped well up front before we got the food, almost $9 actually for counter service as we thought we were going to get some sort of table service. Instead the woman that brought the food out of the kitchen quickly set all our baskets on the end of the table and literally said, "I don't know who got what so I'm putting them all here" and scampered back off to the kitchen. The atmosphere is typical of BBQ and looks nice and clean. Bathrooms were clean. Overall, we didn't care for the food or service and as locals will...
Read moreAfter waiting for so long for this to open, our mouths were watering with anticipation. Unfortunately, it was far from amazing. Aside from the meat, barbeque is judged by the public by potato salad, baked beans and Brunswick stew. None of these were up to par. Potato salad is not palletable, beans were weird and almost canned, stew was more of a vegetable stew. Meat was moist but had no flavor nor smokiness. Disappointed we paid $35 for this experience. Bathrooms were clean, girl at the register was not rude but neither was she welcoming. Originally asked for smoked chicken. I was told they didn't have any!?! As we were finishing our meal, another girl from the back came out and told the girl at the register, "chicken is finally done!" It was 3:44PM. They close at 7PM. Restaurant is clean. Picnic table seating. I'd love to come back in the fall and replace my review with an amazing update. This area needs some good local barbque. Read moreThe lady a counter when we preordered the 70 dollars plus pulled pork and Brunswick stew. Was nice and helpful wrote down order and asked about sauces and wrote those down as well. Stating we could pick up on July 4 at 1100 their normal opening hours.
On the 4th I was call and told the guy was there two I could pick up my order. When I got the the restaurant was closed no one answered the knock at the doors. I by accident I saw a guy come out back of restaurant as I was leaving. He was not very personable. And stated that I must be who he had to come in for. Then went and got food and stew. He could not hand it to me and close the door in my face fast enough
The pull pork was in an uncovered container stacked on top of a second uncovered container. Pork was so dry like it was left uncovered or multi days old or both. The stew was the worst. It was like someone threw a bunch of frozen vegetables in a pot and turned on the heat for ten...
