It was a rainy dreary day, and my husband and I needed a real pick-me-up when the rain chased us indoors for the afternoon. It was time to try Gelati Celesti! There are seven locations in Richmond, and three in Hampton Roads, and we chose the West Broad Street location in Richmond. Founded in 1984, Gelati Celesti is proud of their small-batch, handmade ice cream, made with specialized Italian machines.
Such a thick, creamy ice cream deserves some great additions and flavors to make it sing, yes? Gelati Celesti is no stranger to unique flavor profiles, as you’ll see on their menu and in their inviting bins of fresh ice cream. Some flavors that stand out include:
☕️ Blanchard’s Dark as Dark, which pairs up Blanchard’s dark roasted espresso beans with vanilla ice cream
🍮 Salted Caramel, a frozen take on the creamy and sweet salted caramel craze
🌈 Ukrop’s Rainbow Cookie, a cheerful vanilla ice cream with Ukrop’s Rainbow Cookies
With so many exciting, new-to-us flavors to try, we were overjoyed when the team at Gelati Celesti offered us samples. The Mint Stracciatella spoke to me, a die-hard mint chocolate chip ice cream fan who’s always looking for that special touch when it comes to my go-to. I was not disappointed! What a beautiful creamy texture this ice cream had, and oh, how the chocolate chips were layered through and through, for that perfect crunchy element in my mint ice cream!
My husband, who doesn’t veer from his favorites too often, definitely found a new treasure at Gelati Celesti today. Instead of ordering his cookies and cream waffle cone, he ventured into uncharted territory with the decadent flavor, Just Ask, featuring a magical combination of peanut butter and Oreos in vanilla ice cream. Chocolate and peanut butter, creamy and delicious, nestled in a fresh baked waffle cone. My husband was delighted with this twist!

Read moreThis review is ONLY on product/customer service of one visit. My ice cream go too for years. Since original owners and one storefront. Ice cream is always the best in town. Just one comment about my visit last night. I bought 4 quarts of ice cream. I asked for 4 cones, which I’m normally always able to get. I was told I had to purchase them after spending $70.00ish in ice cream. The young lady ringing me up explained this is something that was just implemented. I was just shocked that they are now really charging for cake cones. Even more bothered with the amount of money I spent in an ice cream shop and couldn’t get them. Had my husband not been back home in Maryland waiting on this ice cream…. I most def would’ve put all 4 back in freezer. I feel cones should still be available when buying togo ice cream. I mean I asked for 4…one for each quart not a dozen or even sugar cones. Love the business but most definitely just didn’t sit...
