I absolutely loved Country style donuts! This was my go to spot when I had a sweet craving, which would be more often than I'd like to admit. If I had written a review about this place a week ago I would have given it 5 stars. Sadly, I can no longer do that because to me customer service is what makes a business.
I arrived at CSD and was eager to purchase glazed donut holes for my friend and our 5 kids. To my dismay they were fresh out. I was told it would be 30 minutes and they would be out. I said, "great, I will wait. I'll be out in the van."
20 minutes passes with our 5 young children from ages 6, 5, 4, 2, 1 telling poopoo stories in the van. We decide that we will go inside to wait the remainder of the time. We sit our kids down, they have no high chairs so you can imagine our toddlers got ancy and all over the place. Time continues to go by, we ended up waiting over an hour all together from the van to the store. I look over to see that the donut holes have finally been put out. No one informed us even though all 3 staff, including the owner knew we were waiting for them. I walked up to purchase the donut holes. I also ask while being rung up if they could give us a complimentary milk or something for the wait. The employee said he would go ask. He goes to the back, and I can see him clearly talking to the owner, and looking my way but yet no one ever comes back to say yes or no. So I then ask the new employee ringing me up if I could get a complimentary milk or something for the ridiculous wait. She walks back to talk to the owner and then comes back out to tell me that they can not do that. I asked if I could speak to the owner. She gets him, and he comes out. I explain to him, "here is the problem, when I first arrived at the shop I was told it would be a 30 minute wait for the donut holes. We waited in our van for 20 minutes and then waited in your shop for another 45 minutes with 5 kids. If we had known that it would take so long we would have left. I simply ask you for a complimentary milk or something for the inconvenience and you say you can't do that? I just want you to know that I will definitely be writing a bad review. Cause this is ridiculous."
I paid for a milk and sat down with my friend and the kids to eat the donuts amd drink some milk. While we were eating, the owner went to the back to make more donuts and was giving me evil looks the entire time through the glass wall window. It was a sad circumstance, no one apologized for how long the wait was and how it was much longer than they had originally told us. I think the worst part is the owner had so little concern about his customer, the OWNER! It's one thing when it's an employee but when it is the OWNER, that is just bad business. Would it really have hurt the OWNER to be professional by showing concern and being apologetic for the long long wait? No, no, not the least bit.
I don't know about ya'll but to me customer service is what makes the business. And the owners customer service was...
Read moreOk, here the thing... I started with the original location in the East End, not far from the airport. That location has THE BEST DONUTS you can get in this city, or surrounding, as far as I'm concerned. For years, we prayed for them to open a location in the West End near where we live, and they finally delivered. However, it's not the same... It's EASY to tell the difference between the DONUTS from these two locations. The West End location just isn't as good. The donuts are more dry, and they go stale as fast as you can blink, and personally, I think they're overcooking them, and drying them out, because even the texture isn't the same. We lucked out and got a fresh batch a couple of weeks ago that were SUPER close to the original location...I even got almost 2 solid days out of them. But that's only happened once in the 2 years (I think) they've been in the West. If you catch then fresh out, you're ok FOR THAT DAY! After that... Let's just say you should eat them fast on the day you get them. I even stopped buying from this location and made the trip to the East End a few times, because I simply wanted the original goodness. The reviewers who say these are the best donuts ever have OBVIOUSLY never been to the original location! I literally can't praise the originals enough. Don't get me wrong, they make good donuts here, but if you've never had the originals, don't, unless you plan to spend a lot of time driving to get what you can't have here in the West. But I keep giving them chances, because I do want to support them. If they ever get the quality up to match their other store, they'll be around for 30 years like...
Read moreIf you like donuts, omg even if you don't like donuts you have to come here! We just moved to the Richmond area and while at lunch the other day someone recommended this place and it did not disappoint! Walked in on a snowy day to a line of 5 customers waiting at the counter and 1 associate happily helping the first customer. This guy was awesome (this was Sunday 1/16 morning) and was so accommodating taking customer after customer, frosting donuts he had sold through, and doing it with a smile. As I waited, customers continued to come in and when I left there were at least 8 more customers waiting! Now, to the donuts! I will say the pics make them look maybe a little dry but this is one time that THE PIC IS A LIE. The donuts were amazing, fresh, and most melted in your mouth. I don't even like glazed donuts and it was 100% my favorite. It was chef kiss good! There were so many varieties to choose from. We tried glazed, buttermilk, blueberry chip, apple cinnamon, coconut cake, Boston creme, glazed lemon, glazed chocolate, glazed custard, red velvet and raised maple. I grabbed a dozen to go and brought them home where we tried small bites...
