Seriously disappointed - I would give 1.5 stars, if allowed.
I have been waiting to go to Bull & Bush for at least a year, and finally had a dinner meeting with someone staying in Cherry Creek area hotel, so scheduled dinner for here.
Old-school indoor eating area and tented outside eating area provide options for dining. Seem to have a nice selection of beers, and the two I tried were tasty. The other positive was the smoked turkey on the Cobb salad. However, many negatives:
(a) Maybe not important to some, but still using the QR code menus from covid-days. Generally not an issue, but being very dark inside and with dozens of beers available, it made it difficult to bring up the menu and navigate to compare beer/food offerings.
(b) Waitress did not know the beers at all, and worse, was combative about our beer orders. Remember, this is a "brewery". As mentioned, navigating and scrolling thru screen to look at all beer offerings on online menu. I see an interesting beer with "passion fruit" in the title and ask for that - and get a confused look on server's face and stated "we don't have that here". I ask are you sure? Yes, she states she is sure. I break out my phone and log into menu and find the listed beer: "Petrus Passion Fruit Sour [beer]". "Oh, that one!"...yes, the ONLY beer on your menu that lists "passion fruit" in the title. Then my dinner companion orders a beer, response?: "I don't know if we have that"....we look it up, and not only is it listed on the beer menu, but it is on the menu as the "Beer of the Day"(!). The good news on this point is when the beers came they were tasty.
(c) I have heard the French onion soup at this place was good, so I order a cup with my salad. When it comes it is room temp (and should be hot with melty cheese). I really mean room temp. I take two bites, then stir to see if there were any warmer spots (nope, all room temp). The waitress can see that I did not eat this soup - still full as delivered to the table...but says nothing and takes it from the table with my salad plate at the end of the meal. If I were paying for dinner I would have asked for this to be taken off the bill, but I was not paying.
(d) Cobb Salad, which traditionally, and as listed in the menu, has avacado. My salad comes with no avacado. Since no manager came to ask how our meal was, I stop another waitress to ask about missing avacado and was told: "it's on there, just hard to see". Well, I'm an affable fellow who has eaten dozens of Cobb Salads at dozens of restaurants around the USA over tha last 35 years....so I pick thru the entire salad with my fork to find the reportedly hiding avacado. Nope, not present. Yes, I am quite sure.
(e) I order an iced tea in the middle of the meal (since ordering beer is such an ordeal)....and it comes....and it tastes fine. But we were at the table for at least 45 minutes more and no tea refills...I did ask for a refill a waitress once walking past, and she stated she would tell our waitress about the request....but still no refill.
Of course, being a popular place in Denver the meal was well priced, and as earlier stated I did not pay....but man oh man what a disappointing first...
Read moreI had to debate between 2 and 3 stars because the food was great, but the service was HORRIBLE. I gave 2 stars because great service knows how to make things right when things have gone wrong with the food.
Jan. 17, 2025, 2:15 p.m. We were seated immediately and told our server would be with us. We waited. And waited. And waited. My husband flagged someone down. They told us our server would be with us soon. We probably should have left, but we were there for a family member's birthday, and she picked the place. Note: The restaurant was NOT busy.
So, Ross H. finally wanders over like he's got nowhere to be and asks us what we want to drink. We tell him, and he promptly turns around toward the bar and leans on the back of a chair to start talking to someone sitting there. We already knew what we wanted to order, so we got his attention and asked if we could just order.
The food was great! One person in our party had a salad with crispy chicken, I had the pork sandwich, and another person had the chicken fried steak. The food was excellent. No complaints there. Large portions, and all of the fried items were super crispy and delicious.
Unfortunately, we didn't see Ross again until we were nearly done eating, so "How is everything?" didn't mean much. Then, we had to wait for the ticket. And wait. And wait.
We flagged down the person who had been at the host stand as she was walking by and asked for to-go boxes, a can of root beer, and our ticket. We explained that Ross had been an absent server, and she didn't really seem to care. She brought the boxes and can and said Ross would be right there. He wasn't. So we waited.
FINALLY, we got the ticket and were able to pay. It was ridiculous how long everything that depended on Ross took. The person who wanted to go to Bull & Bush said they'd never had such terrible service and were embarrassed. Maybe we should have asked for a manager, but by the end, we just wanted to get out.
Now, I don't expect this review to get any notice by the owners/management because I see that they've never responded to a negative review. It's too bad because acknowledging that service or food was not acceptable can go a long way in making someone feel better about their experience. But, it's whatever.
Will we be back? Probably by the person who wanted to go in the first place. Would I come back? Nope. There are so many restaurants that actually value...
