If I could give half a star, or no stars, I would. This food was all kitsch, no flavor, and terrible customer service.
My husband and I dined out in the Biergarten, and after reading about how authentic and delicious the food here was, we were excited to try it.
We started with the pretzel, and it was fine, but the cheese sauce had zero flavor to it. The mustard at least provided what flavor the pretzel and the cheese sauce lacked.
Before we got our main course, we saw a couple sitting at another table get denied a pretzel because it “wasn’t theirs”. Even though they ordered a pretzel and it was exactly what they ordered, the waitress said it wasn’t for them, even though five minutes later she brought it back out to them again. Then we also overheard people behind us who complained about errors with their order as well. In neither of these two instances did the waitresses apologize for the error and try to make it right. They were rude, abrasive, and just lacked basic common sense and customer service skills.
We then waited approximately 30 minutes for our food. Everyone else around us received theirs, even people who arrived much later than us and who ordered the exact same items as us, but we still sat and waited and waited and waited. Then our waitress came over and in an indiscernible voice, muttered something about how there was an issue with our order. No apologies, no comps for the pretzel, no offer of anything to make it right. It was at least another 15 minutes after that point that we finally received our food.
Our entree was the Die Kleine combo platter. What we ordered was a jaegerschnitzel, sausage (Chef’s choice), spaetzle, and a side of sauerkraut. What we got was cold, old, soggy jaegerschnitzel with cold, congealed, and over salted gravy on top, an overcooked sausage that tasted like it had been sitting in plastic for the last 10 years, sauerkraut that was absolutely revolting in flavor, and no spaetzle. Instead we got potatoes. Those were soggy and cold as well.
Some of the many instances of terrible customer service include: the hostess shaking her wet hands off right on my husband after using a wet dish towel and a red bucket to clean a table, absolutely NONE of the staff wearing face masks, no apologies about the incorrect food and no attempt to bring us the corrected order, no apologies for the sheer amount of time it took for us to get our food, the wait staff literally running through the Biergarten and up the stairs every two minutes, and absolutely not a single person thanked us for coming or said goodbye to us when we left.
We expected so much more from a German eatery. We expected warm personalities, personable wait staff, and authentic, German food. We are at a loss for why this restaurant has such high reviews and we will not be...
Read moreFood: The various schnitzels and the kase spatzl was amazing! The hot Bavarian potatoe salad was unique, however the vinegar was just too overpowering.I must point out that for a restaurant that advertises authentic German food, frozen french fries (Jagerfries) are not authentic German ingredients. Side note- despite how great the food was at the restaurant, once home and reheated as a left-over that evening, the microwave just doesn’t do it Justice.
Service: Our waitress and her backup were fantastic. They actually improved the experience for us all. I wish I was certain about her name, but our receipt has the name Beth on it, and I have no idea what the name lady backing her up was. Between the two of them, they were absolutely delightful.
Atmosphere: The music was nice, but loud and the interior was exactly what I think of when I think of a German restaurant. The atmosphere quickly changed when a gentleman was seated across from us with his three dogs, each of them in its own chair..I mean literally in chairs sitting at the table, with a cup of something to eat/drink on the tabletop. Personally, I don’t like that animals are allowed in restaurants, however seating them at a table is on a whole different level, and I certainly don’t want to dine with them. Making it worse is that all food from the kitchen had to pass directly by the dogs, and anyone using the restroom had to walk directly by the dogs at chest level. While not necessarily a bad thing, when my wife went to the restroom, she thought the building was connected to a public pool because of the intense chlorine smell and the accompanying shower stall. However, at least the bathroom was...
Read moreSorry folks, except for the food I can't say anything good about this place. I live in Granbury and the last four times I visited this restaurant they did not have Hoffbrau beer on tap and they did not have a bottle of Bitburger, even though it is on their drink menu. The service last night, Saturday, 6/18/22, was totally unacceptable. We were a party of four and one of us ordered green beans, again on the menu. We were told sorry, no green beans. So far, not a good German beer available and no green beans. After a while our salads came, along with our dinner. Totally unacceptable. I asked the server to take my meal back to the kitchen and keep it warm while I ate my salad. The server came back and said the chef didn't have room for it in the kitchen. Another person came over to the table and said it was against the law to bring meals back. So which story is the correct one? Same with the beer.. We were told it was a delivery problem. Our server told us they rotate their beer stock. Again which story is correct? One of our party ordered a Vodka w/tonic. The drink was $8.00, .50 cents extra for the tonic. are kidding me? The story goes on but what I will end with is, never again. Ketzler's has lost my business forever. I will never recommend this restaurant and in fact i will discourage my friends not to go there. Not good for me, my friends or relatives. And definitely not good...
