Roost (Part of the Hyatt hotel)

Outrageously over priced! Went to the buffet on a Saturday. Arrived around 11 am. My husband and daughter went ahead with the buffet while I looked at the menu. They got some fruit and were told to order the waffle at the table, which they were unable to do because the buffet was shutting down! So if they wanted anything else it would have to be off the regular lunch menu but would be charged at that price vs folding into the buffet price. So $21 per person for a spoon of fruit, 3 slices of bacon and a tiny spoon of yogurt. Asked the waiter about including the order into the buffet and was told management said NO. I shared my Steak sandwich with my family.

Food was good, but not at that price especially with poor management of "brunch". They should have said if you want brunch it is closing and cleaning up in 10 minutes" otherwise it would be best to order from the lunch menu.

Won't be back. Even if the food was amazing I wouldn't come back due to poor management. They don't care about the customer just their bottom line. Sad

UPDATE I appreciate you responding to my comment. Your prices may indeed be competitive, but if you were to pay $21 for fruit and bacon WITHOUT the rest of the buffet options, you would complain as well. Since the manager offered no compensation or substitution options when they closed the buffet within minutes of us arriving, I would have to disagree with being competitive. I have yet to visit a restaurant where food was taken away without offering substitutions, management wanted money more than a returning customer. My family was told to order the waffles at the table, meanwhile they packed it up and left the waiter to tell us waffles were no...

updated 8/2/19 - i'm eating as I'm typing this... WOW. Thank you Roost for listening to feedback and taking action!! The salad bar was BEAUTIFUL today. Well stocked, tons of variety, fresh ingredients, and CLEAN. It was absolutely perfect, and you once again have a weekly customer.

I used to rave about Roost, but I've been mostly disappointed as of late. They offer a salad bar for lunch that is a great deal and convenient for many of us working in the downtown area. This used to be where I lunched 3-4 days a week (pretty sure I left a 5 star review back then). I hadn't been working downtown for the last 2 years until recently, and had heard from many others that Roost's quality and consistency isn't what it used to be; and as much as I didn't want to believe them, I've given Roost several chances over the last few months and unfortunately I have to agree... The salad bar has been poorly stocked or kept, with vegetables and greens that look (and taste) like they are pushing freshness by a day or two. I've thrown it out twice, which is really frustrating when it costs what it does. (To be clear - It's a great deal for the salad bar if the food was good - but it's a huge waste when you throw half of it out) The variety of all items in the salad bar is lacking and the quality just isn't worth going anymore. The reason I give 2 stars instead of less, is because their soup, no matter what, is always delicious. It was the reason I kept coming back over the last couple months. Also, ordering off the menu (burgers, wraps, etc) I've heard is still good... but most of us need to grab and go for lunch, or just really want...

If you're in downtown Greenville, or even just close enough, you gotta go to The Roost. This place was so good that I went two nights in a row and wish I had another night in town to go again. It's that good.

The ambiance is very comfortable and it has a fun and inviting vide. The staff was just excellent. I sat at the bar each night, since I was in town solo for work, and the bartenders were knowledgeable on everything on the menu and made fantastic recommendations. They were also funny and a real blast.

They have an extensive drink menu of beer (bottle/can and draft), wine, and mixed drinks. I tried five different beers over my two night, all local and recommend by the bartenders, and I was duly impressed with South Carolina brews. I also watched them make a wide variety of mixed drinks and they put a ton of care and craft into them.

The food is southern and delicious. It's a very creative menu as well with a wide variety of offerings for all diets. I had the pimento cheese appetizer both nights and its fantastic. If you've never experienced pimento cheese before please order it here and enjoy. For my entree, the first night I had their award-winning pulled pork and grits and it was to die for delicious. I didnt think it could be topped by the second night I had the meatloaf that came highly recommended and my goodness did it pay off! Normally I'd swear clear if such a "simple" offering but was told it was different. They were right. It comes with a bourbon bacon jam and a homemade ketchup that put it over the top. It really should be another...

Stopped in for a late lunch on a weekday, mostly because of the wide open space on the terrace protected by plastic. Safety first- there were few customers and the plastic isn’t secured at the bottom, so much fresh air flows in. We were greeted at the host stand by Joe, who seated us, and took our orders. Joe even offered to turn off a couple of the overhead heaters, as the area was plenty warm enough. The menu isn’t expansive, but given the inventory challenges with business so significantly slowed by the virus, still plenty to choose from. We ordered the Green Goddesses Grilled Chicken Sandwich (with one choice of side, $13), asked to leave off the arugula and went with the Roasted Brussel Sprouts at our server’s suggestion. We also had the vegan-friendly Margherita Pizza ($11). The chicken sandwich was a fair portion, but rather bland. The Roasted Brussels would be a hard pass the next visit as far as I’m concerned- cold, overly moist, and with flavor that suggested they sat in the kitchen for awhile. The Margherita Pizza was enough to box up and enjoy later, but frankly didn’t travel well. High marks for the effort in the space, as guests arrived after we were seated they were pointed towards tables that left at least two open tables between us.
