We wanted to try the new and improved place so a group of 6 of us went out for drinks and dinner. Other than how loud it was in the place, it was a great night! First of all, the service was great. Our server told us that all the servers work together so no need to just ask for her if we needed anything. In fact, three different ones came by to ask if there was anything else we needed throughout the evening. No idea that they had a happy hour! Although the drinks weren't discounted, appetizers were buy one get one free until 7pm. The stuffed mushrooms were the best I've ever had. The mini ham and Hawaiian rolls were delicious. Everyone was happy with their meals, too. I had the Big BLT. The egg on it was a bit odd, but it was very good. One person raved about their Cajun Philly cheesesteak. The wedge salad was huge. Overall, everyone was satisfied. Although the music was loud and a bit heavy metal for my tastes, we still really enjoyed ourselves. We will likely be returning!

Great and laid back people! Karaoke with DJ Puddin was awesome Sunday and Tuesday nights! Great singers and fun crowd! ***Update*** New night... different DJ... Puddin is awesome all day long... DJ WiNK's sound system is off the spectrum for karaoke! Best sound I've ever experienced at a karaoke place. If you're in town on a Sunday or Tuesday...City Tavern is the place to be! Make sure you give some love to David, your friendly neighborhood bartender/barback/cook/friend/brother/therapist...and all the rest of the staff at this one of a kind downtown experience.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ City Tavern of Greenville is officially my new go-to spot! Huge shoutout to Scott, Jeremy, and Chris—you guys have done an incredible job getting this place open. The atmosphere is top-notch, everything looks amazing, and the attention to detail really shows. The food? Outstanding. Every bite was full of flavor, and the menu has something for everyone. Whether you’re stopping in for a drink or a full meal, you’ll leave impressed. So glad to see City Tavern open and thriving—can’t wait to come back!

Honestly really disappointed with my visit to the new city tavern....first of all the menu has changed a lot despite the goal of the renovation being to fix the outside and retain the character inside. I would say that was not what happened. the inside is completely different: it feels like a totally different place. I see the pros and cons of this so I won't let that impact the rating, but overall I would say the character of the previous restaurant was not retained. the menu changes: gone are tater tots, cheese fries, boneless wings, onion rings...in are broccolini, citrus salmon, and deviled eggs?? interesting choices for bar food...

onto our experience. we had really, really poor service. we saw our server TWICE. to take our order and drop our food off. I didn't get a single refill of soda (which was $3) or water the entire night. we had to flag down a different service member to bring us our check (about 2 hours after we were done eating). after about an hour of having our empty plates in front of us, we decided to just put them on a different table so we could have our space back. so the service was very very bad, despite quite a few employees working behind the bar and on the floor.

the food: after being away from city tavern for a few months during the renovations, i was excited to have boneless wings and tots again, but as i mentioned that has been removed from the menu for whatever reason. SO I went with the cajun philly which was always one of my favorites at the previous city tavern. this came with chips as the free side. not my favorite, but okay. to "upgrade" to french fries (which was the free side at the old tavern) was an additional $THREE FIFTY. $3.50 for FRENCH FRIES???? These were also listed as a "premium" side (french fries). I didn't order them because I think that is a ridiculous price to upgrade to fries (keep in mind this to sub chips for fries, not add fries on top of it). but someone in my group did and I'm glad I didn't. they were incredibly bland and a really small serving especially given the upcharge price. The chips themselves were cooked to be far too crisp in my opinion and were drowning in what tasted like Old Bay. The sandwich itself: previously the sandwich was seasoned so well that it was almost dry, and you could add the spicy ranch to add a little moisture. this sandwich, however was super bland: little to no seasoning especially when advertised as a "cajun" sandwich.

Overall, i spent about $18 (before tip) for a really bland sandwich with some chips as the free side tht I didnt care for and a soda that I never got a refill for. The guys at my table spent $22 for a sandiwch, fries, and a soda. not a great value for some food that was...

I've been going here for years and I was really anticipating their re grand opening ..So I went to visit today....the renovation is nice ...atmosphere a lil different, very loud but do-able ...still has the a couple of the same people. But they must have a new cook cause the food not really the same ...fries very salty..the cajun Philly it's okay ...didn't have the usually.. crispy onions rings ..or spice....our waitress was attentive and nice ....we ate ...Paid her ...and left as we was leaving .another waitress who wasnt our waitressat all ..comes out the door behind us and ask us to come back ...BECAUSE SHE ASSUME WE DIDNT PAY ...HOW SHE ASSUME THIS I HAVE NO IDEA BECAUSE SHE WASNT OUR WAITRESS .SO SHE WOULDN'T KNOW IF WE PAID OR NOT ....she is that one waitress there ..with tattoos everywhere... that dress like she going bike riding ....so she proceeds to tell us to come so she can check the ticket which she did ..And it was fine BECAUSE WE ALREADY PAID ....I don't understand why she would even think we would walk out without paying we been coming there for years with no problems...she need to worry about her own ..tables and stop profiling and accusing people of not paying ...no wants to walk out and not pay we not those tyoe of people and we not broke ...so why would this husy ..even do that.....not to mention how packed it was ... so this was an embarrassing move ....I have never walked out without paying .. not even as a kid ....But i would like to thank the guy who brought me a paper I left on the table ...But for the tattoo girl do better ....and stop assuming...profiling or whatever it is you call yourself doing ....unbelievable.....but not even surprised...typical...

My wife and I dined at City Tavern about a month ago while visiting Greenville to attend a women’s college volleyball game our daughter was playing in. We stopped in for lunch.

My wife originally ordered the fried mushrooms, but a few minutes later, our server informed us that, unfortunately, they were out of them. She selected a replacement dish instead. About 15 minutes later, the server returned and told us that their chef, a genuinely kind and thoughtful person, felt it was unacceptable to be out of something as simple as mushrooms. So, he actually went down the road to Publix, bought fresh mushrooms, and personally prepared the dish for her.

They brought the mushrooms to our table, freshly made and on the house, since she had already received the alternate dish. We were blown away by this level of care and service.

What made this gesture even more meaningful was that my wife had just completed cancer treatment a few weeks earlier. Her taste buds were still recovering, and fried mushrooms were one of the few foods she could actually taste and enjoy. Their kindness meant a great deal to us.

I ordered a salad topped with salmon, and it was equally excellent... fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared.

We highly recommend City Tavern, and we’ll definitely return the next time we’re in the...
