Honolua Coffee Wailea is the premier destination for the connoisseur who appreciates a high end beverage while shopping for their Rolex watch, Gucci shoes, Prada handbag, and Louie Vitton blazer - it's where I go, especially in between meetings at Andaz with high profile executives on special retreat liason escrow dealings in the international corporate realestate merger industry, in which I am involved. And for that type of high-pressure work, a strong brew is sometimes necessary. While I do love a rosemary triple espresso latte as my usual, I must say that the regular drip black - no cream - does truly have a refined strength that is unfound in your typical competion. And make no mistake, the coffee industry is a highly competitive niche most would take for granted, but after tasting the difference in Honolua's - especially the way they prepare it at the Wailea location - one couldn't deny the distinctive qualities that truly make the visit worth the walk from even the Four Seasons - although I only ever stay at the Andaz now because of the updated decor and rockstar-level amenities, such as cascading...
Read moreWe used to love going to Honolulu coffee company, despite the price. We would get our stamp card filled so we could get our more high priced coffee for free after 10 stamps. ( I was informed tonight that âbuy one get one free is for the lower priced coffee.â Thing is I spent well over $60 dollars to get that card full of stamps and it says get a free coffee when the card is full, itâs not buy one get one free with a fully stamped card.) We also used to be able to get a Kamaaina discount. This was one of the least expensive things available for us to go and enjoy on the island. We were so regular that all the employees treated us like Ohana. Customer service doesnât exist at Honolulu coffee Shop in Wailea anymore much less Aloha. if you visit and want some Aloha I suggest Akamai coffee across from Times market in Kihei. The staff at Akamai have Aloha to Shane re as well as amazing coffee. (Itâs less expensive than Honolulu and a 3 minute walk...
Read moreI'm a bit of a coffee snob so take my review with a grain of salt. This place is lodged in the center of an expensive shopping complex, for some that us OK but for me it hurt the atmosphere. Their whole deal is locally roasted coffee - expensive coffee at that - but when I asked the barista what to expect from the coffee, I got a blank stare. Normally you'd hear about tasting notes, something about their roast process, etc. Not his fault, but it does to show that as they expand their business, the quality and training has gone down. Nevertheless, I was assured the coffee is very good. I think it was decent. Neither too bitter nor sour, but the beans tasted a little old or roasted too much.
This place deserves 3.5 stars in my opinion, but I'm giving it 3 to outweigh the positive reviews who may be deceived by the price into thinking it is the gold standard of coffee. If you're on Maui looking for good 3rd wave coffee, I recommend...
