California Sushi & Teriyaki -Fat Kitty — Restaurant in Hermosa Beach

Unfortunately I did not have a pleasant experience at this place. The servers look like they really don’t want to be there. No smile, no welcome, it was 8:10 that I got there and I was told that they close at 9 and they really didn’t look like they want me to dine in. I mean if it is 8:45, 8:35 I get it but 8:10? That’s flat out lazy. They said the same to all customers after me and some customers left so the restaurant owner is losing business too (which is secondary, if he pays the servers well, they probably would be happier to work there) The food was fast, the freshness is ok-ish. It wasn’t proper sushi though which was expected but they charge you like proper sushi so that’s that. I won’t be going back and don’t recommend this place at all. This is a great place to get a quick lunch that’s much healthier than getting a burger or fast food. We stop here for the Lunch plate, my go to is the Salmon Plate it comes with rice salad and tempura, I ask them to do all veggie tempura and I get a little more food, I think they kind of got skimpy on their rice they used to give you more but now it’s a little scoop but actually rice is not really that healthy unless you can do brown rice… so that’s fine! You can substitute rice for edamame or double salad if you are one of those super healthy people but I need my rice! I’m really amazed at all the other photos of the fresh looking food and clean facilities, that was simply not the case. The service from the beginning was strange. The restaurant could use a deep clean. The condiments containers had condiments and rice stuck all over them. the actual food was some simply not prepared thoughtfully or with any love or positive energy. The cucumber salad was old wilted not fresh or crunchy. The fish was warm, thin and discolored, the vegetable roll lacked flavor crunch and freshness.
