I was really looking forward to this restaurant I had heard good things about it. Unfortunately, my experience was not the best. I had previewed the menu in advance because I have quite a few allergies and sometimes it's hard to find things that I can eat. However, I was happy to see that they had a steak on the menu. I love steak and it's always my go-to when I'm allergic to everything else. Unfortunately, when I placed my order for my well anticipated medium well steak I was informed that the cook refused to cook anything over medium. Now I have been in the hospitality and restaurant business for over 20 years and the general rule of thumb is to not tell your customers how they have to have their food. An excellent cook will prepare a meal to perfection even if it's not how they personally prefer it. Now I realize that I come from somewhere that is famous for their steak and you can get a good steak anywhere but I have never experienced being told that I could not order my steak in my preferred method of cooking. At almost 50 years old I know exactly how I like my food. If the chef feels incapable of preparing an excellent meal as the customer orders then the steak should simply be removed from the menu. Servers can say the chef does not recommend that the steak be cooked over medium but the customer should never be told that they can't have the meal that they want cooked the way they want unless it's a health hazard which this was not the case. I was very disappointed. On a side note I went to another restaurant the next day and had a superb steak cooked medium well and that is the restaurant I...

Called ahead of time to check for GF options. Were told pizza, salads and "a number of other things" could be made GF. Went to restaurant and after waiting, being seated, and waiting some more, we were told there was flour "all over the kitchen, even in the air" and that the GF pizza was a bad idea (they make the GF and normal pizzas in same place, and put them on same stone in oven).

Didn't expect them to have a celiac friendly kitchen, as they don't advertise they do, but saying you 'do GF' is not the same for those of us not choosing to eat this way.

They did offer to make a salad, steak or some kind of stew, but they would be made in the same GF flour filled kitchen (eventhough we were told those would be GF safe 🤦‍♀️).

I appreciate the heads up from the waitress, but telling us this info on the phone could've saved us a bunch of time.

As a side note: the steak and hamburgers we saw come from the kitchen...

Absolutely loved our experience here!

Food:

We had the shrimp appetizer and it was great. Came with a lovely little green salad, very fresh, and their homemade blue cheese dressing on the side. I had a red blend per my question and the sweet waitress’s suggestion. It was a good pairing wine; fruit forward, jammy, and held up to the pizza. We tried two different pizzas, both to our satisfaction. They do a great crust IMO; stretchy, chewy, and not too thick. My pesto sauce, roasted beet and chicken, and arugula pizza was fantastic. I’m sure it was superb with goat cheese too, but due to an allergy, I asked her to change to mozzarella and they were kind to accommodate.

Atmosphere inside is totally cute and hippy, but we sat outside where they had nice fire pits and heaters (but the bees were too frequent for my taste).

Service was great. Location is convenient and they had plenty of parking. Plus, they are...

My wife and I enjoy za from here 2-3 time a month. They are creative and balanced. The crust is on point. The flavors give you a reason to crave another slice. Super friendly staff. Your order is usually ready within 15-20 minutes. They are slammed alot but they always have an honest answer for a reasonable wait time. If you want to hang out at Alices and eat your pie with a brew, there are some tables upstairs with some awesome bench seats from an old railway car. Great atmosphere. My wife and i had a date night there last week. We had a real nice time just being outta the house, listening to the live music from the stage downstairs and were still able to have an easy conversation. A killer caesar salad and a darn good pizza at a fair price keeps this place as our first choice for takeout in Homer.

The twisted goat is quickly becoming a hot spot in Homer dining, the servers and bartenders are kind and professional and it's a lovely place to take a date, or drop in by yourself for a glass of wine and an appetizer. We dropped in for dessert and wine on my friends birthday and the bartender helped us light up the candles we stuffed into the dessert! I was the DD and she fired up the espresso machine despite it being recently cleaned and made me a delicious doppio to keep me alert and ready to drive. It's a very welcoming place with a warm, Homer vibe. Whether you are there for an app, pizza, pasta or dessert you really can't go wrong. Dine in (or take-out), and treat yourself.
