Assaggio — Restaurant in Honolulu

BEWARE -- RESTAURANT MAKES IT YOUR FAULT IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGIC REACTION!

Had dinner at the Ala Moana location with friends on May 4th. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi and got an allergic reaction, (I am NOT allergic to seafood or shellfish.) I was covered with hives! We reported the reaction to the server and she asked, "What do you want me to do?" We asked her to let the manager know, but she told us the manager was busy.

I left my friends to go home immediately and on the way out, I informed the Host about having an allergic reaction and to call the manager. I was told the manager was busy in the kitchen. You'd think that a customer having an allergic reaction would be important enough for the manager to come out!

I rushed home, took two benadryls and called the manager. Of course the manager was still busy, but he did call me back and indicated that he is also the owner of the restaurant, Thomas Ky. (Do a Google search on his name with "Hawaii" and interesting articles come up from 2014.)

The owner did not apologize and instead kept fighting with me that the shrimp was not bad because they peel it in the morning and at night. He even accused me taking the uneaten half with me. (I took the rest with me in case I wanted to get it tested.)

Think twice about going to this restaurant because if there's something wrong with your meal, THE OWNER WON'T CARE. He'll fight you instead. There'll be no apologies and no compensation. Customer service is lacking. Go somewhere else because there are so other restaurants out there that care about their customers. Assagio's at Ala...

Never have I ever received such horrible service in my life. From the second we sat down the server was ready to rush us out. She told us that last call for the kitchen was 8:15 even though online it said 8:45. She continued to remind us throughout the dinner that they were closing soon that we “cleaned out the clams” and that there were “no more limes” because the restaurant was “closing soon”. When we got our entrees one of the pastas had a hair in it. And one of them had the wrong type of pasta. We brought it to her attention in a nice way and not once did she apologize but she rolled her eyes and said that she would remake it and take off the cost of a Caesar salad for the mixup. When we were ready for dessert another server brought us the menu, but while we were looking at the menu she brought us our check. When we ordered our dessert she slammed our cutlery on the table. We tried to rush and be out of their hair so right before leaving, one of us said we should hurry because they are closing soon. Our server was cleaning another table and she loudly said “Yea we’ve been closed for awhile”. I have never been so appalled by service I’ve received from what’s suppoSed to be a nice restaurant. Definitely would not Recommended this place to anyone unless You want your night ruined by a rude server that clearly doesn’t know how to separate personal life from work life. Assaggio is one of our favorite restaurant in Hawaii, we move to mainland and every time we visit Hawaii it is mandatory that we need to have a dinner in Assaggio.

We usually go to Assaggio in Mililani cuz it’s closer to my mom’s house, but because we are check in waikiki we tried the one in Ala Moana.

It was our first time to experience that kind of customer service my mom live in Hawaii for almost 20 years and told me that it was her first time to experience that kind of customer service here in Hawaii. Our server went to our table in a rush not even smiling, my husband asked for alcohol drink recommendation that is something refreshing and she said that they don’t have anything like that. We order our favorite Caesar salad she was pushing the trolly for the salad the cheese fell on the ground and she was so upset about that with herself, made the salad in front of us and serve it didn’t even offer parmesan cheese before serving the salad so we have to wait for her to come back and ask for it.

It was so disappointing to be honest. We are hungry and excited to eat with one of our fav restaurant and get a treatment like that. I think we need to stick to the place we usually go to and will never come back to the one in Ala Moana.
