Worst fine dining experience ever. I have been to Morton's several times with my husband and past co workers and have always had a top notch experience. I say worst experience because last night I took my step daughter there for her first fine dining experience and her 16th birthday and it was horrible!! We were sat in the back corner which at first I liked but then it seems that we were forgotten . After about 10mins of being sat our waiter came over and dropped waters then walked away. Did not tell my daughter happy birthday nothing! This was also my sister in laws first time there as well and so far they were not impressed. He came back and I asked about sweet wines, I wanted to get us a bottle. He rolled his eyes at me and brought me a book. That made me feel as if he didn't feel we could afford to be there as if I was less than. He brought the book and I as I looking through it I guess he came back because my sister in law, tapped me and said our server was upset ?? I asked her why she said while I was looking at the book he came back and stood there not saying A word sighed and rolled his eyes. Then walked away. At that point I decided not to order wine! we were waiting on one more person but she was running late and told us to order. So we ordered, we all decided on the same steak but we asked for each steak to be cooked differently. Some med so med rare. Which seemed to upset him as well! My daughter was uncomfortable and my sisters were beyond upset. Our food came and everyone got the wrong steaks. we switched amongst each other. At this point my 6th guest had arrived she just sat when he asked her what she would like and of course she didn't know she just sat. He walked away, he didn't return for over 15 mins so my guest decided not to eat for obvious reasons ! She got a drink and sat uncomfortable feeling like a burden to the server !!! My daughter didn't eat her steak which is very unusual?? So I looked across the table and the steak was rare .. I asked her if she wanted me to get it cooked? she said no, he's already upset referring to our server!!! That was the last straw. But not the end of this horrible experience. Dessert time, and again it is my daughter 16th birthday. He stated he ordered her the best thing on the menu and I ordered my usual creme brulee. Her desert came he lit the candle drop the plate and walked away didn't ask if we were ready or try to sing with us which the other table beside us had a waiter who made a big spectacular for his guests . Which is what I was hoping for . Because he just dropped the plate and dug out, me and my sisters had to rush for our phones before the candle blew out and rush to sing Happy Birthday. There was no special writing on the plate or no effort whatsoever put into this. Now it's time for me to try my creme brulee. Right off the bat I noticed it was not crusted. I go to crack it and sure enough no crack. My daughter and niece wanted to try cuz they've never tasted creme brulee before. It was of course not the best creme brulee do to it not being crusted properly. So the desert is also a bust. We do not eat at fine dining restaurants a lot, for we are a large family and we are native to Hawaii. We cannot afford to eat there on a regular basis but when we do I would think it should be something special. Last night I splurged on my daughter's 16th birthday and it was trash. Our server's name was Travis and I hope if anybody decides to go to Morton's they do not have him.... I had better service at the Red lobster the night before. Shame on Martin's for allowing their server to make their guests feel like trash !!!? Ruined a memorable night. I used to love...
Read moreThe worst Christmas Day dinner. This was my first and last time dining at this specific Morton's location. If I could give a 0 star review, then I would. Upon arrival and check in with hostess, she appeared stressed and frazzled. No special "Merry Christmas" greeting. Just before seating at the table, she stated that she forgot it was Christmas as they are so chaotic and stressed this week. After being seated, my table was completely ignored by the wait staff. It took over 25 minutes before a waiter even acknowledged the table. He said he was not assigned to wait on this table, but he was going to check with the front. After he returned, he mentioned that the waiter assigned to the table was busy, and he was asked to wait on the table instead. He took a cocktail order and placed that quickly. In the meantime, no water or bread was yet offered. The bus boy finally came to bring water, and I told him there was a dirty lipstick stain from a prior customer on the water glass. He took it away and replaced it. When the waiter brought the cocktail, he said bread was still in the oven and should be over soon and then took the meal order. After that, all the surrounding tables were brought bread within 5 minutes. Took an extra 15 minutes and trying to get the attention of 2 other waiters to finally have bread brought to the table. The food was extremely underwhelming. The ribeye steak was cooked to the correct temperature (mostly pink/red center), but the meat quality was poor. It was very chewy and extra grainy. Very difficult to cut with the steak knife. The bacon wrapped scallops were mushy. The lobster mac and cheese was bland and cold. I understand being a holiday there are longer than usual wait times, but the experience described above was just not acceptable. You also could see the wait staff had miserable looks on their faces. No management or other staff even stopped by the table to check on how things were going. It seems that if your table is a smaller party, you get completely ignored at this restaurant and they only focus on tables with 6 or more people. Definitely ruined the holiday meal and negatively impacted what should have been a special day. Not worth the approximately $200 per person that was spent. Upon leaving the restaurant that evening, I immediately completed the corporate feedback form on the corporate website and described the above issues. Still have not heard back from corporate or the local Morton's Honolulu management. It appears both corporate and local don't care much about their customers or attempting to correct a bad situation for...
Read moreThe world food duo dined at Morton’s, The Steakhouse, in the Ala Moana Center as I had a gift certificate. Alas, it was misplaced but we went anyway as I’d never had dinner there, just business lunches.
Our reservation was for 6pm but we arrived a little early … Whoa, the restaurant was already packed with diners! I perused the wine list; it took a while because the lighting was very subdued … I finally picked out a 2017 Justin Justification as I couldn’t find the right pinot noir. Jonah opened the bottle expertly but spilled a bit on my hand and the table when pouring it … The table was blessed! A round of pre-sliced bread arrived … warm and soft and oh so tasty! The wine needed time to breath so it was good that service was leisurely.
Niccole was our server … we opted to share a Caesar Salad; luckily for us because a full order would have been way too much. My partner opted for the ribeye with truffle butter and I chose the dry-aged NY Strip with Bourbon Sauce Au Poivre. Our sides were The Troy and the Baked Corn Souffle.
The Troy was button mushrooms and fried onions; I’d expected something more. The star was the Baked Corn Souffle … It was creamy, but retained the texture of the niblets … Simply delicious!
My fellow foodie liked her ribeye; the truffle butter was wonderful. My dry-aged NY Strip was flavorful but somewhat tough … I should have asked how many days it was aged. I find that 45 days is the tipping point; anything less is not worth the extra money. However, my steak was less expensive than the prime steaks so I wonder if it was choice, not prime.
We ordered the Morton’s Hot Chocolate Cake and the Affogato. I asked for an espresso as most affogatos don’t have enough coffee. This one was different; it had tequila in it and was served in a martini glass. More a drink than the coffee over ice cream that I expected. I like it, but didn’t need any more alcohol. The hot chocolate cake was great … Soft, moist and the molten chocolate just oozed out. It was served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some raspberries.
Service was attentive but not obtrusive; we enjoyed a leisurely dinner over 2 hours … Just right, in our opinion. Quibbles: I would have wished for a few more options for appetizers … my partner is allergic to shellfish so we would have liked something besides the bacon and Wagyu meatballs. That’s what pushed us to order a salad. The portions are generous and the prices reasonable for a steakhouse....
