I'll start off by saying most of Jackson Hole eateries close by 9pm, a handful till 10pm, and a couple after that (10:30 pm or 11:00). Our family came into town after a long day's drive, from Cody, WY, checking into our hotel after 8pm, by the time we unloaded the car, dropped off our luggage in the room, and changed and left the hotel to eat, it was already after 9pm. Did a search on Google that showed us that most places to eat in Jackson Hole were already closed. We stopped at 2 other places first (Google stated they closed at 10pm) to see if it would be OK for a family. Keep in mind, this was downton JH, so parking is at a premium, (parallel parking etc), and having to walk from your car 1-2 blocks, to get to the restaurant etc... this first place turned out to be more of a hotel bar, with tables , but did not have a separate dining area, away from the loud music and tv' s. The 2nd restaurant (The Local) we arrived at 9:40, the hostess stated they were no longer seating new customers, even though there were several other patrons still in the restaurant eating, seriously???Complete B.S. if you ask me!!!
So we found the El Abuelito restaurant was listed as closing at 11pm, we arrived at the restaurant at about 10:10pm to find several patrons at 3 tables still eating in the dining area, the front door was still open, when we walked in to be seated, she said they were closed! I showed her the Google restaurant listing, and at first she said she had no idea of this, stated they also closed at 10. I advised the hostess, with their restaurant being listed on Google, they should be aware! This "error" needs to be corrected by management , because it will continue to draw unknowing customers (tourists) to their location! She asked us to wait, so she could to talk to the manager, or cooks in the kitchen, then she came back a couple of minutes later, and said it was OK, to seat us. Then she said to us that the manager was aware of the "error" on Google because our situation has happened in the past! - Duh! Because you still haven't fix the time listed with Google! After they seated us the other patrons were still there, about 5 minutes after we arrived, an elderly couple tried to get in to be seated, but apparently the hostess locked the entry door this time. We could see the couple thru the window in the dining area, looking at their phone, and looking around like they didn't know what you do either. I felt so bad for them, but this restaurant's management isn't helping matters, when they are aware of a situation and...
Read moreI usually don't leave reviews, but I just want to say please do not come here if you are looking for authentic Mexican food. I ordered a chile colorado burrito which usually comes with chunks of meat. The menu said specifically that it came with chunks of meat. The meat that it came with was clearly diced and there was hardly any sauce on it. The sauce is very watered down and it absolutely did not resemble any type of Chile Colorado I have ever had. The manager was not very friendly but was nice enough to switch out my food. I could say more but I'll just leave it there. I switched out my food for a carne asada plate. The plate was huge and had a very thin smashed piece of meat. It lacked seasoning and by no means is this an understatement. Also it seems that they microwave their food before it goes I believe simply to melt the cheese but this just doesn't seem right to me. Also it's very expensive a thin piece of meat with some spread out beans and rice was $22.
Now that was just my food. My wife ordered mole. I have never in my life seen mole without at least a piece of whole chicken whether it be a leg or a thigh or a breast anything but anything with a bone. Her plate was also huge in an attempt to make it look like a lot of food but it clearly was a very small amount of food. Also 21$.
The plate had what seems to be sliced pieces of chicken breast that was clearly cooked separately from the mole itself. The chicken was extremely dry and the mole tasted like nothing but sugar it didn't even taste a little bit like chocolate how it's supposed to. It also was not spicy at all and the portioning of the beans and rice were a joke. When I let the manager know that I have never seen mole served without a piece of actual chicken. When I let manager know she seemed to defend the food by stating that food is different everywhere. I'm sorry but Mexican mole has whole chicken in it not sliced up pieces of chicken that are added separately. There is a long process with making mole and this restaurant seems to just cut corners at every opportunity. I will say that the chips and salsa they give you were pretty great but that was about it it makes you think that this place is going to have great food but it clearly doesn't it sets itself up for failure and if you are looking for real Mexican food you're going to leave disappointed and...
Read moreTucked away in the heart of Jackson, WY, Abuelito Mexican Restaurant is a flavorful oasis that will transport your taste buds to the vibrant streets of Mexico. This unassuming gem is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic, mouth-watering Mexican cuisine.
As I stepped inside, I was warmly greeted by the aroma of sizzling meats. The cozy atmosphere, adorned with vibrant colors and traditional Mexican decor, immediately put me at ease.
But the real magic happened when the food arrived. I ordered the pork chop, and the first bite was nothing short of revelatory. The thick-cut, grilled chop was cooked to perfection, with a beautiful char on the outside giving way to a tender, juicy interior. The rich, smoky flavor was elevated by a subtle blend of spices and a squeeze of fresh lime juice. I wish they serve you more rice and beans, because I felt it was like a spread around the big plate.
What truly sets Abuelito apart, however, is the exceptional service. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food, taking the time to explain the story behind each dish and offering expert recommendations.
In short, Abuelito Mexican Restaurant is a good restaurant and considered a hidden gem by many who suggested this place. Whether you're a local or just passing through, come and try!
