Last night my friends and I went to Luna in Jersey city. Without a doubt it was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. For starters no water was brought to the table. Upon asking for some we were given the excuse that they “do not do that here unless asked”. Upon ordering drinks they were extremely sugary with little to know taste of any alcohol. One of my friends had to ask for a shot of mezcal to enhance her own drink since it was so poorly prepared. I ordered a margarita and upon tasting it was met with a pure coconut drink. After telling the waitress of the mix up we were given the excuse that it must have been from the dirty shaker used from the last drink. So pretty much you are telling me your bar does not wash their equipment between drinks. The waitress then proceeded to ask to taste the drink herself to confirm it was not a margarita, she took a sip straight from the cup. In terms of food it was inedible. The food flavor was lower then subpar and got to the point where I could not eat because my stomach was churning with disgust. They brought us an appetizer that we did not order and brought my friend the wrong entree. I would also like to mention the mussels they served us were rancid and the sauce that they were cooked it tastes the exact same. When the manager came over to explain the mix up of the entree she said the servers favorite meal at the establishment was the cacio e pepe and that is why she put that order in. My friend ordered the pappardelle. In what world does that excuse for a mix up make sense. As an “apology” we were given warm well tequila shots which we did not take. The manager was barely apologetic in the slightest and gave us an attitude when we told her the meal our friend did not receive was still on the bill. The meal with removed but in general there was no other compensation for the horrible experience. Upon asking for the check the server and the manager asked us at least 3 times if we wanted boxes to take the food home. Our plates were completely full why would they think I would bring such trash into my home. I’ve never experienced a dining experience such as this one, horrible food aside the staff was unprofessional. This place should be renamed excuses because that’s all we were...
Read moreLuna is a beautiful venue with a variety of interesting dishes that are tasty albeit a little incongruent.
I was pulled in by their sign for Mondays special for the Che pizza which I didn’t even know what it was. I was pleasantly surprised on the first visit that that pizza was excellent especially with the Monday specials. So I added Luna to one of the spots I can stop by for Mondays dropping about $80/visit.
Pizza is good, spaghetti had good texture and good chunk of meatballs. The sauce was watery. Their pasta in general is solid cooked to near perfection. The calamari had good batter and crispy but bland in all other areas.
Service was overall terrific but unfortunately on my most recent visit, it fell short. I suppose in customer service all it takes is one bad experience to lose business. I ordered my typical Che pizza and some entrees. When I got the check I noticed the che was charged at regular price. I asked the bartender why I didn’t get the happy hour price. She said I told you when you add a topping it’s regular price. Perhaps I’m at fault due to previous experiences of coming on Mondays for the special and not getting up charged. Regardless, I felt her response was rude when she could had easily responded with “apologies for the miscommunication”. When I explained I got the happy hour prices before with topping, she said, well you got a discount in a snide comment. If this is a management practice for a single topping, I do think it’s poor practice as many others will be confused by this. I felt like I was tricked and that’s not a good feeling.
I won’t be back personally but don’t let this deter you. I do like this restaurant overall but the bad experience ruined it for me, and all they made was an extra $10 instead of having a regular customer. Kind of baffling when businesses are not able to...

The first time my girlfriend and I came here, the restaurant wasn't very busy, yet we were somehow placed at the one table in an odd location right by a stairway and walkway which we ended up switching.
We ordered an appetizer, two entrees and cocktails, and sat for 1 hour and 20 minutes total until we finally got our entrees. We had to take our entrees uneaten in to-go containers so we can make it to our next plans for the night, and ended up spending $100+ plus tip to essentially dine in for an appetizer. Our waitress even took about 10 minutes just settling our bill as we stood there waiting to leave since 3 different computers weren't working.
I called in the next day to speak with the manager, who was very kind, honest, and even sent us a gift card in the mail to make up for our experience. We really appreciated that gesture, which is the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one.
This past weekend we came back to dine in and use the gift card, and hopefully have a redeeming experience. When the waiter gave us our water glasses at the start, one of them was absolutely filthy as if no one had washed it at all, so we asked for new ones. It then took about an hour AGAIN to receive our entrees. I had ordered chicken ravioli and received a total of 6 pieces of ravioli that I finished in 1 minute, an entrée that costed about $24.
We had to go get dinner again somewhere else afterwards since the quantity of food in our entrees was so little, especially for the price, cancelling out the gesture (and price) of a gift card.
The physical atmosphere of the place is nice and food tastes good, but the actual execution of their business to serve people just isn't right. We won't be back...
