Wow. Amazing. The entire experience we had here was amazing. The drinks, the food…and the amazing Stabin Museum.
Victor Stabin’s work is a bit of an enigma, a blend of his fascination with turtles, new age, strange demigod characters, his own life story of cancer survived, with a bit of Dali thrown in. My description doesn’t do his art justice. We had noticed his works posted in obscure locations through the town, and now we knew the artist.
It all started when we were walking around the lovely little town, and just happened to meet a smart eager young man named Quinton. He was driving a golf cart, who offered us a free ride around town, and then he dropped us off to have a drink at the Cafe Arielle. He couldn’t stop talking the whole ride about how amazing this place was, so we figured: what the hell?
Before we went in, we had a lovely conversation with Joan Morykin, who happened to be the wife of Victor Stabin, and co-owner of the establishment. She was lovely, and so we decided to go inside for a drink.
The drinks were amazing. They have a glass floor where you can watch a full river running under your feet. We then decided to wander into the Stubin Museum, which was a bit mind-blowing—his art, the space—the stories—wow.
We then decided to stay for a very enjoyable full live jazz show—the talent was amazing— it was phenomenal. Like really, really good.
Honestly, it was one of our most surprising and memorable adventures in Jim Thorpe. If you are an art or music lover, you must dedicate an evening at this place.
This place, by far, is the most underrated place in Jim Thorpe. Can’t wait to...
Read moreBizarrely slow service. seemingly at no fault of the earnest and apologetic staff.
Party of 4 seated at 6:30 PM on a Saturday night, restaurant was not packed at all - there was 1 other guest inside, and at most 1-2 tables outside. Took 15 min for our orders to be taken and 8:25 PM for our 4 entrees to be served, because it seemed like they were running on a skeleton crew of 1 bartender, 1 server, and 1 chef (no literally, could not think of any other reason). No matter how understanding you try to be, no matter how you slice it, waiting nearly 2 hours for your meal sours the dining experience, especially one technically in honor of Father's day. In many ways it deserved a 2/5 stars, but I'm raising it to 3/5 as a nod that it's not the staff's fault, and more likely management's for setting their staff up for failure.
The atmosphere and music was on point. The food itself was decent - appetizers were delightful, short rib good, ravioli bolognese good if a little plain. The pork cutlets were dry and underwhelming.
But yes, it was a bizarre time. We tried our best to chat, keep each other entertained, but since we weren't drinkers and were there for the food, the long stretch became a painfully obvious issue. A party of 6 entered after we finished...half-seriously wanted to warn them they'd be there...
Read moreMy wife and I came here during our trip to Jim Thorpe. The art gallery was by far the best thing about the place and the gentleman who oversaw it was very nice. The food and the service were not as great. The duck had a rotisserie chicken texture to it and the “seasonal vegetables” are just a few pieces of squash, zucchini and onions. For the price I expected more. Out waitress wasn’t very friendly and the service was poor. I guess she knew she was guaranteed 20% as the automatically add that into the bill. I’d recommend checking out the art gallery and skipping the food.
Decided to edit my review based off the owners comments. You open 12pm and we had reservations for 6:30pm. The waitress wasn’t working a double shift at that point. I never said the waitress was rude, I said she lacked customer service which is her main job. If you’re going to serve an over cooked chicken breast with very little seasoning, turmeric rice which had no flavor and a few vegetables for $28 than I suggest you get thicker skin and take the criticism better. Jim Thorpe has better restaurants that are cheaper and I suggest everyone look elsewhere unless you’d enjoy wasting your hard...
