I took my husband and 3 kids here to indulge in our Harry Potter obsession. We drove almost an hour to get there but we didn't have unrealistic expectations, we were just excited for the adventure! We had just visited the Wizarding World in Orlando a few months prior so I know I can't compare anything Potter-themed to the "real deal".
First major point to make: Parking is almost non-existent. We arrived around 2pm on a Sunday and it took us 15 minutes to find a spot on those tiny streets of Jim Thorpe.
The other points are within the cafe itself. The decor is fun, definitely strikes the right note with a Hogwarts feel. The large projection screen was cool but hard to see if you weren't sitting in front of it. But the decor throughout and the little things almost hidden were cool. New experience = excitement. The guestbooks are cool, one for each house and had pages of quotes, poems and words of encouragement.
The staff was friendly, helpful and everything you wish every coffee shop was. 5 stars for staff.
My only real let down was the seating. There's a few couches, large ottomans and a large seating table with a few smaller tables. Every single one was occupied by at least half of what the area could fit. A big couch taken up by 2 people and their bags, the large table commandeered by a few teens.. with 3 kids in tow I was pretty disappointed that we couldn't sit and take in everything. We drove that far to basically walk in and out.
The actual product they sell was just... Okay. I really wanted to love it and taste the incredible butterbeer we have had before but it just wasn't quite there. Collectively we tried the hot butterbeer (one decaf one regular), Mandrake Maple draught and custom hot chocolate with peppermint. The hot chocolate was the star here. So creamy and chocolatey. The Mandrake was very good, slight hint of maple. The butterbeer was very mild and not nearly as sweet as other kinds we've had. Definitely more coffee taste than the sweet butterscotch flavor. But it was all good, just not "Harry Potter".
So basically, it's a more than decent coffee shop with cool decor made for the young and childless. But was a very fun day...

Shame on this manager for walking in close to 7 PM and angrily asking the TWO hardworking employees why they were still serving customers at this time (an hour after close). There’s a great reason — customer service. It’s no secret that the annual fall festival draws hundreds of visitors to the town, many who are eager to get a taste of the magic at Muggles’ Mug. With this in mind, it’s completely unfair that there were only 2-3 employees working on this incredibly busy Saturday. The manager could not wrap her head around the fact that the wonderful baristas, Izzy and Bella, were finishing making drinks for every person that remained on that line until 15 minutes before closing time (5:45pm). These two young women, Izzy and Bella, were INCREDIBLY personable and professional, on top of the fact that they made the best lattes we’ve ever had— and they did so while keeping their composure amidst the masses visiting the shop during the fall festival. They went outside multiple times to stop the line from building, letting people know that they would not be able to be served as the store was closing soon, however, the line was already incredibly long and people had already waited ~one hour. This wait was not due to their work ethic, but because people were ordering everything on the menu essentially once they got inside. Izzy & Bella made our experience here so well worth the wait. And the wait was over an hour and a half. I am hoping they will both make overtime $$$$ for working another hour after close, so until 7 PM on a Saturday night, as their wonderful efforts brought in tons of profit during peak travel season. Izzy & Bella thank you for making our experience at Muggles’ Mug so wonderful. And perhaps consider how your manager speaks to people — it’s completely unacceptable to treat your employees the way you did this evening, and so blatantly in...
Read moreI’ll start off by saying that I was excited to try this place. I wasn’t able to try it last year because the line was too long but I decided to wait this time around. I’m extremely disappointed in my experience. The staff was extremely rude. Having full on conversations while people are in the middle of ordering, and then asking “I’m sorry what did you say?”. I ordered 2 coffees, 2 muffins, and a quiche. We got our coffees and muffins within 10 minutes of ordering them which was fine. There’s a sign next to where you pick up your order that reads “Frozen drinks and food may take a few extra minutes.” We finished our coffees and muffins and were still waiting for the quiche 20 minutes later. My boyfriend went up to the man handing out the orders and asked him how much longer it would be? The man points to the sign that says it will take a few minutes for food… and then proceeds to say “it’s going to take a few minutes”. Another 15 minutes go by and I watched 3 other people get their quiches that ordered about 30 minutes after we did. I went back up to the same man and said I’ve been waiting over 30 minutes for this quiche and other people are getting their food who ordered way after us. The man says nothing to me and turns to the girl next to him and asked her where it’s at? Nobody apologized to me or even acknowledged that they messed up. A girl comes from the back a few minutes later and throws the box across the counter and then proceeds to head to the back of the kitchen. Do yourself a favor and spend your money at other businesses! There’s plenty of coffee shops and pastry shops that have a nice...
