I was visiting the area and stumbled upon this quaint restaurant in Jim Thorpe. I was greeted by a friendly hostess who informed us the kitchen was a little backed up and would we be willing to wait 1/2 hr to place our food order? I said yes, and asked if we could be seated and order drinks first. We were seated immediately.( I really appreciated that this business gave us the option ahead of time.) We waited approximately 15 mins and a really nice server named Matt came over and took our drink, and food order. This man was running around clearing tables, setting up tables, taking orders, running trays of drinks to customers, and delivering food orders etc. Matt was amazing! Our drinks were served right away. The bar itself is very cool, and is the highlight of this establishment. My boyfriend ordered a Signature Cocktail. Blueberry Rye Smash- Jim Beam Straight Rye Whiskey, Blueberry Purée, Fresh Lime, topped with Ginger-ale. I ordered a Guinness on tap. This place definitely knows how to pour a proper Guinness. I ordered their Smoked Brisket Sandwich-Smoked Brisket, Grilled Pineapple, Bacon, Brown Sugar Glaze, served on toasted Sourdough Bread. It was really delicious. The grilled pineapple added a nice touch of sweetness along with the smokey flavors of the bacon and smoked brisket. The two cheeses on their toasted sourdough bread made this sandwich complete. My sandwich came with fries. My boyfriend ordered their Pork Sliders-Two Slow Roasted Pulled-pork Sliders, BBQ Sauce, Toasted Bun, side of Coleslaw, with French Fries. His Pork Sliders were very good. The meat was juicy and had lots of flavor. His dish also came with fries. My bf thoroughly enjoyed them. We did not have any dessert because we were full. I noticed the bartender made homemade cream topping in a jar for her drinks. The vibe was cool, and relaxing. They also have an upstairs for dining, but I prefer downstairs which is much nicer. This place does a really nice job accommodating everyone. Ouros Restaurant does check ID’s because they serve Alcohol. There is a ramp for handicapped. Parking is a whole other story. All of Jim Thorpe has a parking problem. I would definitely return and try some other dishes and...
Read moreThe cocktail list, atmosphere, and music drew us in. The downstairs has a really great atmosphere, and the cocktails are great. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience left much to be desired.
We were a group of 5 friends, arriving at 5:30pm. Downstairs was full, so the host offered us upstairs seating. I'm not sure if upstairs is newly acquired, but it's like a completey different place once you enter the dining area. The stairs and top landing had me hoping the downstairs ambiance continued, but it's all white walls, bright overhead lighting, and not even the same music. There was only one other table of guests, and we were seated at the table next to them, directly in front of an A/C unit blasting our table with cold air. We decided to have drinks and move on.
When our server arrived, she introduced herself brusquely, and handed out menus. When she found out we just wanted drinks, she told us to "hold on" and left, then returned and informed us that would be ok. She was clearly disappointed, despite the fact there were at least 5 or 6 empty tables and no line to get in. Maybe she was just having a bad day, or there was some policy we were unaware of about sitting down to have drinks, but it felt like she was either doing her best to make us feel unwelcome, or completely oblivious. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I've never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant in my life.
I'd love to see the upstairs finished out to match the downstairs, and despite the bad experience I definitely want to give it a second try (just not upstairs, and not with...
Read moreWas visiting Jim Thorpe for a getaway weekend and decided to stop in here for dinner and drinks. The atmosphere of the place, first of all, was very cool. It's a really nice historical building with some cool décor and great vibes. The dining room felt spacious and not too loud or chaotic.
The drinks we got were kind of a mixed bag. I got one of the seasonal drinks which ended up tasting like straight alcohol, and it kind of turned me off to getting any other mixed drinks so I finished with a beer, which was good. My fiancé got two mixed drinks, including the sangria and a mule, and they were both pretty good. Overall, as I said, a mixed bag.
The food was more consistently mediocre. The nachos were served on an oven tray and all the cheese was hard and stuck them all together, making them very unwieldy to pull off the plate. The lettuce choice was... a choice... and the chicken was very dry. I was very disappointed with them, given the other reviews I'd seen of them singing their praises. The brisket sandwich seemed good conceptually, but the execution just wasn't quite there. The sauce tasted jarred and the pineapple - which was meant to be grilled according to the menu - didn't have any grill marks on it and tasted like it came straight from the cutting board. The fries were under-salted and unremarkable. Overall, I ate the food, but I wouldn't rate it much higher than a typical dine-in chain restaurant.
Overall, would maybe come back for some drinks, but probably wouldn't return for food. Didn't love it,...
