UPDATE I met a friend here for lunch today. I promised myself to try this restaurant again. I wanted to raise my star rating but I am not able to do so. Last week was restaurant week and apparently many resources were diverted to their downtown location. My friend chose this restaurant for the vegetarian options. We arrived just before noon to discover that her first choice was not available, vegetable pot pie, her second choice was also not available, quiche, her third choice was the Moroccan salad was available!! And she loved it! I had the beef pie, it was also very tasty. I'm sorry that the Banksia cafe has fallen short again today. Guessing that my timing is really bad and everyone can have an off day here and there I will try them again because the food is really good and a bit different. Easy to find at 4800 main Street, in the old board of trade building just on the south edge of the Plaza. Great location with plenty of off street parking if you know where to find it. The covered parking is just west of main Street next to stock hill. The princess and I just had lunch here today. The princess tried the chicken pie , she loved it and shared some with me and I can concur it was very good. I had the corned beef sandwich and the flavor was also excellent. The only issues I had is the service was painfully slow. We were not in a hurry so not a big deal. Also the portions are very small versus the large price. Look at my photo of the $15 sandwich , nearly missed on the meat. I don't mind paying a fair price for a hefty sandwich but this was a near miss. Too bad since I did like the food and the staff was also very strong but slow. Breakfast looks better and next time I'll try...
Read moreAlright, I’ve never left a review before in my life, so you know this is about to be good. Upon walking into this place you immediately feel the good energy of the environment and hospitality from the staff. We had the vegetable sandwich (my favorite), the lamb pie (bf’s favorite), the lamington, jalapeño goat cheese macaroon and a couple lattes. It was all WONDERFUL. They set out free pothos clippings on their counter straight from their plant wall (LOVE, ok. I almost cried). We had previously tried the dumplings at Duck and Roll and told the owner at the counter how they weren’t necessarily our favorite, only for them to come to our table later and inform us they owned Duck and Roll as well (haha, yikes). He assured us not to be embarrassed and asked us what we liked and didn’t like, how they could improve, and informed us about some sourcing issues they’ve been having, and the reason for us not being the biiiggest fans (we’re also just picky dumpling eaters). We had such a great conversation with the owner, whose passion for what he does obviously poured from him. We will be back again and again to both Banksia and Duck and Roll. Over the moon happy with...
Read moreIf I could I would actually give this a 3.5 because of my experience. So, I did rounded up plus they were busy and the cashier seemed to be still pretty new, so I'm kinda give them benefit of the doubt. Ordered a large chai with honey cinnamon syrup at kids temp. When I got my drink (in a very timely manner) it was only 3/4 full. I went back up and asked if it was normal for it to not be full, they said no and would make me another. Also ordered a breakfast sandwich and it took a really long time to get. The person I was with hadn't received their drink when our food came and we still needed silverware. We felt back because we kept asking for things. Most of the staff had a great attitude minus the barista who got a little attitude with the cashier with my drink. Might give them another chance to see if it was just an off day, especially because it can be hard to...
