Broadway Cafe is very hard to describe in one word. If you're a coffee addict, fiend, or even admirer - you have to try Broadway Cafe. They use beans that they, themselves, have roasted. If walk further north on Broadway Street, you'll find their roasting location as well (trust me, when you walk by it - you'll know it; the aroma of roasted coffee beans overwhelms you). Going back to the cafe, it's a different story altogether.
Environment: 5 Stars (*)
Broadway Cafe is one of those places that you'll find that just about everyone goes to in Westport. Any stereotype, any type of person, regardless of age, gender, or personality. This is actually one of the more incredible things about the cafe; as you're prone to find a few people sitting around (outside on a nice day) enjoying the weather and their drink. Inside, you'll experience a rather laid back environment to the point that you'll enjoy every second of your experience.
Customer Service: 4 Stars (**)
Each time I go to the Broadway Cafe, I'm reminded that it's an independently owned location and that it's a local staple in the community. As I'm not that frequent of a customer, I get to watch as customers and employees speak to one another in a familiar manner. The staff have been dedicated and focused on customer service throughout it all, it seems. I haven't any gripe as it seems to be a fairly straight-forward process majority of the times for me (as I've not been there in the early mornings or busy afternoons).
Coffee: 5 Stars (*)
Like I said, this is some delicious coffee. You won't see eight or nine boards of options as you would in a chain like Starbucks; here, you're paying for the quality of coffee. If you're the type that just drink Frappucinos from Starbucks, you might want to go in with a more open-mind when going into the Broadway Cafe. They do serve iced drinks and I highly recommend you try either their Hazelnut Mocha if that's your thing.
Price: 4 Stars (**)
Considering it's an independently owned location and it's a coffee cafe, I think the prices are fairly realistic. You're looking at similar prices to any chain, but the taste is far better. They do sell some "brewing tools" if you're thinking about starting to do cold-brew or french press at home. On top of that, they sell their beans/grinded beans for your personal use. Price-wise for these things are competitive or on-par with most retail locations.
Overall: 5 Stars (*)
From the "feel" of the environment to the taste of their coffee as it hits my tongue, I would highly recommend at least trying Broadway Coffee. They offer snacks, cakes, and small luncheon-type foods as well (which I have not tried as of yet) in case you want to grab a bite to eat while sitting down. You can't really go wrong with Broadway Cafe if you're a coffee drinker; casual or...

Read moreWe are from out of town and caught wind of this local suggestion so we took a walk over and waited patiently in line. It wasn’t busy or fast paced. A man was in front of us for a while and despite being no where near the counter because of this, a male barista made it apparent he wasn’t sure why we hadn’t ordered yet - we hadn’t even been greeted, we were just waiting our turn. So he annoyingly said “hi”. So I said hi back and asked for an iced espresso. Before I could finish and tell him anything else, he scoffed and told me the only iced espresso he knew of was espresso over ice. I said yes, that’s what I said and he cut me off again saying “so that’s all you want, nothing else, just plain”. I explained he wasn’t giving me a chance to speak and he said “well the menu is right there” and rolled his eyes. At this point it was clear he didn’t want to let me speak. I tried to continue with my order and he rolled his eyes again. I said “you know, I think I’m good, never mind” and he scoffed again. My friend and I decided to leave which was a let down because I was planning on purchasing grounds to take home if the experience and flavor was good. Sir, I don’t know who pissed in your Cheerios or what about my appearance offended you, but this approach was not it. It always amazes me when baristas are miserable humans because they’re in the coffee business which literally exists so people can wake up and have energy to enjoy their day. As we walked out he continued to stare us down and roll his eyes. What a disappointing experience. We won’t be back and we will not recommend to anyone heading to Kansas City - we will likely tell friends to pass on this place...
