Rhythm & Booze Downtown — Restaurant in Kansas City

complete disappointment. from the second we walked in i had a gut feeling that coming here was a mistake. i’ll spare you all the details but this review is definitely worthy of reading through before committing to a visit here.

walking in, there’s no clear direction of where to go or how far back the seating goes. the only thing that was obvious was that there’s no host to seat you. as anyone who’s not local would do, we start walking towards the back to scope out the scene and find a spot to sit. a woman who was sitting at the bar (not working but clearly a regular) aggressively says “HEY. YOU NEED TO SHOW ID.” while pointing at the bartender who was actively making a drink. she then checks our IDs without hardly saying a word. maybe get a bouncer or let your servers check IDs?

we finally sit down and after waiting 10 minutes we have a server approach the table. side note- she was pretty young (20) but very nice to us. this review has nothing to do with her service. we order the chips and queso to which she asks if we want to upgrade to the white queso (as opposed to the standard yellow queso) and says it’s definitely worth it. if the white queso was worth the upgrade then i’d hate to know what the yellow queso tastes like. it tasted like watered down white velveeta queso… it probably was exactly that.

i also ordered the rhytmrita bucket (their special recipe margarita). i love tequila but DAM that was strong and had no flavor. they clearly state that buckets are non refundable due to the alcohol content… but then we started looking around and noticing a lot more on the menu was non refundable. that’s when it hit. if you have to specifically state everything on the menu isn’t refundable then you’re probably getting a lot of complaints and doing nothing to fix them.

for dinner, i ordered the twisted tacos. a “special family recipe”. literally just deep fried beef tacos. the best part was the salsa. the beef had no flavor at all. “why didn’t you order the chicken instead” ah yes that’s because you can’t substitute anything on those. i also ordered the brussel sprouts that she ensured me were seasoned and sauced. guaranteed those were steamed from frozen in the microwave. they didn’t even salt/pepper them and - big surprise - no condiments on the table.

guys, i WISH i could say i was only salty because that woman at the bar started the vibes off wrong but i’ve literally never been to a restaurant where everything sucked. everything. from the food to the drinks to the atmosphere.

10/10 would NOT recommend

Normally I don't say anything if I don't have anything nice to say, but I experienced the worst customer service for a regular customer who likes to tip 20+%. The bar had run out of serving glasses for the tank 7 and served me the .250 L glass and my friend the 16 oz glass. When I asked them if they could serve me the same amount as my friend since they were charging me the same amount for an an 8 oz glass vs my friends 16 oz glass the head bartender didn't even pretend to hear me out, and just yelled, "NO NEGOTIATING!" over and over again. I didn't yell when trying to let them hear my case and I most likely would've accepted the situation if I wasn't so rudely talked to. If this is how they treat regular customers how do you think they would treat a new customer? I cannot in good conscience recommend this bar. I've seldom experienced rude behavior like this from any bar. It's really sad because I've enjoyed drinking there until now. Sadly this is my first review under 4 stars.

"If your trying to make friends in Kansas City it probably isn't a good idea to stalk my girls on a daily basis! Our Regulars know how are girls are and respect them...not disrespect them! As for your beer...they ran out of the glasses because they were all being used at that time. Your beer was poured the same amount as your friends beer. Just because the glass is bigger because we are out of the normal glass doesn't mean you are going to get a bigger pour. You are going to get the same pour of that beer. I'm sorry that you feel it necessary to bad mouth is because of an incident that my girls were in the right. If you knew us...the owners...and our girls then you would know that coming to us is the smarter idea. Make sure you go out on Yelp and Google and leave this same remark! We wouldn't anyone to feel left out!"

Truth is we visited this place more than once . service inside seems ok but service outside wow they have horrible attitudes and the security guard for real you guys could buy a better one .he's very hateful and accusing.and offensive to guests .what business needs that type out front scaring off your customers we've recently stopped coming in again we just used to come in three nights a week but door buster attitude just ain't worth my dime ,my whole family was coming here but due to the guys rude rude rude and insulting two of our minor kids like they 11 and 13 about asking to use the bathroom after our meal before we left .he said to them no they cannot that you don't allow our kind in there well hmm funny thing is our kind was the customer and who is he to just be like that to everyone and everytime we are in there I had put up with his mouth and comments more than once and today it's time you all see what most customers like we live right across the street and we alwete regular visitors but we realized most are probably saying the same and how we are all treated the same way by probably him then or whoever ,the security outfit there .well ok. Then no more we won't be back ,he needs to insult people outside of his job because he is scaring away all your customers yes for the owner pay attention to that ,,due to attitude of just going in there.i don't think you should have to duck and dodge your doormen just to dine or drink there, so we now go to uptown or elsewhere.sorry for the bad review but...
