*edited to respond- yes, of course she acknowledged us when we first entered. But that was the only time she spoke to us other than the rude way she cut me off and walked right by me with an attitude that we didn't matter. We were polite and smiling until she was rude. We only said the single sentence to her, asking if we could sit there. We were not whining, we didn't get the chance to. I was trying to ask her a question and she cut me off with a flippant answer while walking right by us.

5 of us came here as it was suggested by our hotel for our overnight trip. When i tried to ask if we could take a table recently vacated(we were still standing by the entrance chairs)the hostess/waitress(only one we saw working the room) rudely pointed out that there were only 4 seats(we knew, but one of us wasn't keen on sitting after being in the car for 5 hours) and kept on walking right by me, continuing to ignore us for the entire 20 min we were stood at the front. When we decided to leave, she whines "I was just coming to take your order" rolling her eyes at me. Haven't tried their drinks but we won't be back. All 5 of us came up in restaurants/bars/hospitality industry. All it would of taken was an acknowledgment of us and to not to be dismissed. Her attitude made us...

What I enjoy most about Swordfish Tom's is the intimate setting and the attention to detail that is put into every drink. Each cocktail is made to order in front of you, one or two people at a time. It's truly an art craft to make drinks the way that they do, and with the garnishes that they do! My absolute favorite drink has a candied hibiscus flower on top. I really enjoy their smoked cinnamon sticks in some of their whiskey drinks too. I appreciate that upon entering they ask that you keep your phone use to a texting only when necessary usage and "leave the world for a little while". They have a variety of board games for use to anyone so if you get bored of chatting this is a fun thing to do and a way to meet new people, I love that they set the intention of the atmosphere to have people interact more authentically without the distraction of phones or TV's! The dimly lit vibes of Swordfish Tom's combined with the excellent cocktails has become one of my favorite spots to go. The only shame is I wish I could take a photo of the delicious drinks...

What a beautiful, unforgettable experience. A true speakeasy both in its location and atmosphere, this bar will not disappoint. It exceeded our expectations in every way (and we came to Kansas City specifically for this bar, so we had some pretty high expectations!). The cocktails are for a sophisticated, discerning palate. I’ve seen some reviews that call the drinks “nothing special,” and I suspect this is because they were looking for something more predictable or heavy handed. If you’re looking for sweet, everyday, crowd-pleasing flavours, this is probably not the bar for you. If you want a cocktail that tells you a story, though, I cannot recommend Swordfish Toms enough. The Resurrection Lilly was a lesson in subtle, narrative cocktailing (velvety, creamy, floral, and tangy all at once), and be sure to end your night with Heaven Bourbon and Earth, which is a multi-layered Manhattan riff containing mushroom syrup (!). Gorgeous. The bartender was wonderful and sweet. Simone was a true gem. We’ll be coming back here as soon...

This was my first time visiting a speakeasy. Walking down to the entrance definitely made it feel like the real deal. The wait to get let in on a Saturday night was about 25 mins., which isn't too bad for a place that can only seat about 25 people. They have one of the most unique cocktail menus I've ever seen. The guy running the show gave great recs/descriptions and was super cool. The whole vibe was just incredible; hard to put it to words.. you'll just have to go! Terry's chocolate orange and dilli vanilli were both excellent. Blowing smoke packs a MASSIVE punch, but it's very enjoyable if you like the cinnamon and smoke flavor combo. Definitely put some time aside and visit Swordfish Tom's if you're visiting KC.

Swordfish Tom’s is the kind of place that truly feels like a real speakeasy, not just a hidden bar with a fancy sign. It is intimate, unique, and has an atmosphere that makes you feel like you are in on a secret. The staff are true connoisseurs of cocktails. If nothing on the menu catches your eye, which is honestly rare, they will happily create something special just for you. We tried several drinks and every single one was crafted like a piece of art, both in presentation and flavor. This is a place for people who see cocktails as more than just a mix of ingredients. For us, it was an experience worth savoring and one we will definitely come back to.
