If you're local to the Lakes Region, or you're a regular visitor, then you probably know that we've lost a few Chinese restaurants and the ones left are lacking or sub-par. I've traveled so I'm pretty experienced in Asian cuisine. My family and I had visited the Shang Hai Restaurant (SHR) before, had the buffet and were considerably disappointed. We had no intention of going back but someone from the community recommended the SHR and said to dine in. When we did, we had had a five star two thumbs up experience in addition to the the food being even better than we could have expected for what would be normal good quality food. The Chef Lo Mein was abundantly loaded with shrimp, meat and vegetables. The General Gou's chicken was superb and had an extra tasty sing to it. My entire family really enjoyed the meal and I was blown away and really excited to...
Read moreI think this is my first Google review I have ever written for a restaurant but this must be heard. We paid double here than we have anywhere else in the country on our usual order (actually minus a few things). Almost $140! So we thought this is going to be the best we have ever had?!?! It was quite the opposite. This was THE WORST CHINESE (if you can even call it Chinese) that we have ever had. It was DISGUSTING. The $5.00 egg rolls, the sour crab rangoon, the rice and noodles are saturated in a disgusting sauce (they don’t even offer sauces unless you order certain things). We couldn’t even eat more than a few bites before our stomachs were upset. I would’ve drove back down there and got my money back but they were already closed. $140?! For the worst and I mean the WORST Chinese we’ve ever had from Maine down to Florida. Do not waste your money!...
Read moreShang Hai's menu is a treasure trove of Chinese-American favorites. Their crab Rangoon is a crispy delight—cream cheese nestled in perfectly golden, crunchy wonton wrappers that crackle with each bite. The chicken fingers are equally impressive: golden brown, with a light, crispy breading that reveals tender meat inside. The lo mein stands out as a highlight, with thick, silky noodles tossed with a generous mix of vegetables and your choice of protein. Miss Yan ensures each dish is prepared with precision, from the wok-tossed fried rice packed with savory bits to the generously portioned sweet and sour chicken. For those seeking variety, the menu offers everything from classic egg rolls to more adventurous dishes. It's no wonder this spot has become a go-to for reliable, delicious Chinese cuisine in the...
