Belknap Mill Museum — Attraction in Laconia

It was a rainy day when we had visited, but that did not stop us from taking some pictures and enjoy the beautiful scenery! Built in 1823, the Belknap Mill is the only one of its kind left today! The mill was in operation until 1969, and at that time it was producing socks. In 1970 the mill was given the name of the Belknap Mill Society. Become a member, and support the mill. This mill is such a great learning experience for any age. I have attended weddings, political events, craft fairs, fundraisers and group tours there. All of the events were lovely. The way they have preserved is fascinating. You can actually see how the water was used to power the mill. The mill is gives school tours that are interactive. We made the mistake of believing their website that they are open. On the day we visited, the door was open (helpful since we desperately needed to use the restrooms), but there was a sign on the check-in desk that said they were closed. I don't know if that was a unique day or they are not, yet, open to visitors because of COVID. Anyway, lesson learned ... we'll have to contact places like this before making the long...
