Field’s has always been a special place for my family on vacation, and the food is absolutely phenomenal every time, but today the service fell short. I’m absolutely lost as to how a server could be as completely out of touch as he was with our table. Upon sitting down, our waiter stood beside our table and very awkwardly asked, “Drinks?” I didn’t think much of it until I saw him go to every other table and give a full introduction, engage in conversation, and warmly greet other guests. The rest of our entire dinner he hardly checked up on us, but was adamant on taking care of every other table. We attempted to get his attention many times but he literally would not look at us. I kid you not he kept his eyes up the entire time and basically pretended we weren’t there. We had to ask a busser for rolls, even though they were given to the other tables by our waiter long before us (they had arrived after us). A food runner brought my mother her order of prime rib and lobster, and the cup of butter on the plate must have accidentally spilled onto the plate and she asked if she could have a different one because the prime rib was completely soiled with butter. He immediately took the plate away to fix it, but our waiter stopped him and told him to just pour the butter out! I’m happy that the food runner ignored him and brought her a brand new cut of meat. It was also my mother’s birthday, and I heard them singing to another table. I really hoped they would do the same for her. I was wrong. A girl very solemnly dropped an ice cream sundae with a candle on it and walked away. We all sang to her at our table but it was still not the same. The food was perfect in every way, but the service honestly ruined my mom’s birthday. What a shame that the service was so poor, it doesn’t reflect the quality of the meal whatsoever.
Update: I am not this kind of person, and I have never called a manager before under any circumstance, but I really wanted to let them know that I was truly so disappointed in the service tonight. She, too, was so rude over the phone I couldn’t believe that a manager would talk that way to a customer. She basically accused us of lying about our poor service and that none of this is a real problem. I’m truly just shocked at the lack of care. I am a server at another establishment so I know how a dining experience should be, and this was a terrible excuse of a dinner service. I can see how the manager’s attitude reflects on their staff. Best wishes to the one food runner that actually...
Read moreWe have just returned from dining at Fields at the Wilderness and it was a grave disappointment.
What started out as a nice evening and a beautiful environment did not end that way. We were greeted by a waitress who never said her name, I still have no idea what it was. She was gracious at the beginning and the food came out in a timely manner. However, the appetizers did not come out altogether, not sure if that is your standard to bring them out as they're finished, but that is not really of consequence. The scampi was tasty.
Once the dinners came, our server came back to the table and quickly asked if everything was okay and before I could tell her my daughter's steak was not quite done properly, she was gone. She never even came back to check on anything else! The person whom I assume was a busboy, boxed our dinners, cleared our table, took our dessert order and brought it out, (incorrectly I might add), brought out the coffee and even presented our check when we asked for it, (with a charge for both the desserts we ordered and the incorrect one that he brought out.) Let me reiterate, our waitress never came back to the table once after our dinners were served, up until the check was paid.
I called the manager over to the table. He did not introduce himself, seemed annoyed to be called over and when asked about why the server never returned to our table, we were given an insipid answer of, "we work as a team". I don't think that was truly the case here. I believe the staff was overwhelmed, particularly our server, and our service suffered greatly. I thought it was just our table but after speaking to the guests sitting next to us whom, after discussion, we found out they dine there on a regular basis, said this was the worst service they have ever had. Seeing as this was our first time, be assured it will be our last.
Steakhouses that claim to be at the level your decor, menu and pricing suggests, require a certain level of service and that was sadly lacking. I do not mind if people need assistance or they have other people help with their tables, but the fact that they never said there was a team service at this location or the fact that the original server never came back, that's unacceptable.
I'm writing this so you may hopefully improve your service for other people who come to your establishment as I will never know the results of my review, for I will not be returning. This was the final day of our vacation, thank you for making our last dinner a...
Read moreWe LOVE Field's! (well, we used to love Field's)
Sadly, we never thought we'd see the day that we would leave Field's so unhappy. As loyal customers for many years, we have made a point to plan all of our drives between Minneapolis and Chicago to include dinner and/or lobster bisque at Field's, dining near the amazing bubbly fountains when time, or stopping in at the bar for the world's best bisque! We have traveled by ourselves, and also with friends or visiting family members and everyone agrees, they all love Field's just as much as we do.
However, this year was our first huge disappointment with Field's, or more specifically with manager Ryan.Traveling to see my aging and ailing father and for my birthday in Illinois, we planned to return to the Twin Cities on Valentine's Day, specifically for a romantic atmosphere, lover's toast and some soup and salad. We milked our day in Illinois so we could arrive in the evening. We called ahead that we were coming to Field's. We were told by manager Ryan that "if" we got there right at 4:30 we could have a bowl of bisque in the bar. We even stayed dressed up from our morning brunch. Well, driving at the maximum speed we could manage, we set out from Libertyville, IL toward the Dells. We managed to arrive a little before 5PM. The hostess knew we were coming and welcomed us to the bar. We were warmly greeted by Robert and Jim, the bartenders who had so often served us, and even the piano player told us it was nice to see us again! We ordered our bisque and we were encouraged by the very courteous and upbeat bartender, Becca, to order a bottle instead of glasses of wine. We said we were driving and one glass would be enough. Boy were we glad we did, because next thing we knew Becca informed us she could not serve us soup or any other food. We said we would be happy to take carry out bisque to eat in a rest area, but we were denied that too. With alcohol in our blood, but no food in our bellies since morning, we left feeling completely disappointed and disenchanted with Field's. Even though we have called Field's "our favorite restaurant" hands-down everywhere we travel, we are not sure we will ever come back. Regardless of your holiday events, Field's, this is no way to treat a...
