Plastic in Food, Denial from Management

Let me be clear: this review is not about a simple mistake. It's about a management failure so profound that it calls into question the entire restaurant's commitment to its customers' safety.

My wife and I were enjoying the pleasant ambiance of Sarento's when my Chicken Marsala meal was cut short. I began chewing on a foreign object that was tough, rubbery, and inedible. It was a piece of plastic film.

What happened next was appalling. After we alerted the staff, the manager approached our table not with concern, but with immediate denial. He condescendingly dismissed the plastic as "just an onion peel." I stated plainly that I had the object in my mouth, could not chew it, and that its texture was clearly artificial. He disregarded my firsthand account entirely, choosing to lecture us instead of listening.

A competent manager in this situation has a clear protocol:

Apologize sincerely for a dangerous kitchen error.

Immediately remove the contaminated dish.

Express concern for the guest's well-being.

Investigate the failure with the kitchen staff.

This manager did none of the above. His sole objective was to deny responsibility. Since my direct testimony was ignored, let me provide the irrefutable proof for everyone else to see. The attached photo shows an object with:

Artificial Transparency & Gloss: It's a perfectly clear, manufactured film, unlike the fibrous, translucent nature of a biological material like an onion.

Sharp, Polymer Folds: It holds stiff, unnatural creases that a soft vegetable membrane never could. It is, without a doubt, food-service plastic wrap, likely from the chicken preparation.

To add final insult to this negligence, after I ceased eating my meal for obvious safety reasons, the restaurant made no offer to replace it and charged us in full. We did not argue, choosing to leave rather than endure further disrespect in a crowded room.

The most dangerous part of this experience wasn't the plastic in my food; it was the management culture that chose to deny and conceal a problem rather than solve it. This isn't just unprofessional; it's a betrayal of the fundamental trust a diner places in a restaurant. This establishment's leadership failed to handle a critical safety incident, and future patrons deserve to know it.

Dine here at your own...

Normally I give it all five stars... This time is because of I guess how they handled our order. We have ordered delivery many times from this place never had an issue. I know where we were staying it can be very hairy at night so I repeatedly gave very detailed instructions and directions. I even asked to speak to the delivery driver(Micheal...highly recommend). and was told he would call before he left. The phone rang 20 minutes after I made my order and he was hopping mad because he was lost and it was dark and he wasn't familiar with the area.... Very upset couldn't get a word in edgewise and he ended up leaving my order at the pro shop which makes me uncomfortable because I don't know who looked at it touched it etc. we ended up talking and came to the conclusion that it was not my fault or his but he wasn't given the directions... I don't know why I decided to be so patient usually I'd be my b* self but he was obviously dealing with a lot with the new management and ownership since the summer. He was kind enough to admit that on the way back he did find the shortcut and it wasn't as far away as he thought. It was actually a nice young person who only sounded rude because of his accent haha. I pride myself on being very specific and detailed so I'm very disappointed that the gal taking the order did not write down the information correct and even wrote down the wrong address. The driver at least recognized that it wasn't me giving bad directions. The meatballs are still spectacular although you can tell they're a different recipe..... We eat here at least 10 times a year and are never disappointed in the food. The service sometimes you know. Delivery people have a very hard job and despite being yelled at and not having my order actually delivered to me.... This guy at least calmed down and apologized and we had a nice chat on his way back to the restaurant. If we order delivery again I will make sure to meet them somewhere like the registration building, it kind of defeats the purpose of having the food come to the door but I don't want someone going through that much turmoil over what should have been a simple delivery. Highly recommend the meatballs! We also like the...

If I could give thousands stars I would with a heart beat. We have not eaten anything so delicious in the restaurants yet so far. After reading reviews and coming across a negative ones saying that food is playing , overpriced, small portions, we were not sure about making reservations. But… we decided to give it a try just to have our own opinion glad we did. Let’s start with reservations - it was super easy to make on line , we even rescheduled the time to later one tree hours before original one with no issues. We made a note that we would like to be seated by the window or a wall and they made that happen perfectly. The atmosphere, cleanliness, theme and just in whole was above and beyond amazing. Love that it is not modern which makes it feel so cozy, welcome, relaxing. Music is not super loud. We were seated in the room with fireplace which is even more quiet. Loved it!!! Waitress was amazing, so personal, met everybody’s needs ,even the picky ones with no problem. Had a awesome knowledge about wine and her choice was absolutely on the spot. Food!! Oh goddess! We have ordered marinated salmon, veal cannelloni, chicken marsala and carpaccio!!! To say that it was absolutely delicious- would not describe even close how delicious it was. The amount of serving is perfect, price worth every penny . Whoever said that food tastes plane is very strange, because it is perfect combination of spices, cheese, wine, mushrooms. Just perfect, yet not overloaded with salt that makes you want to purchase a lot of liquids or drink a lot of water. A big shout out to the chief and cooks who makes the magic. Thank You to the manager who keeps this place authentic ( to hear more Italian music would be like a cherry on the cake ) . Highly recommend to all who loves pasta and Italian food. You won’t be disappointed! This comes from very picky family of food taste , service provided, cleanliness that starts from entry, bathrooms, tables, silverware. Everything was presented and served with outstanding care. When in the area, definitely coming back! Thank You all staff, God bless you for...

Very nice place! Service was excellent, and the atmosphere was very nice. I wasn't a huge fan of my Bolagnase, but my family all loved their food! If like to go back and try some other dishes next time we're in the area.

We drove from Madison to specifically eat here & we were promptly seated & our water poured immediately. Our sweet & knowledgeable waitress quickly came by to take our drink order. I ordered a glass of wine & my paramour a highball. Our entree orders were, I believe, eggplant parmigiano & a cheese ravioli which came with the house salad. We also had the bruschetta as a wonderful appetizer. The entrees were quite large as we both had to take home extra but they were lacking in flavor. There was not a lot of seasoning which is unfortunate however I imagine Sarrentos is catering to the WI Dells masses, aka the tourist families. I'd prefer more Italian flavors / spices. We also ordered dessert to go: tiramisu & cremè brulee & they were fabulous! After dinner, we adjourned to the lounge to listen to the smooth vocals of a seasoned performer, John G. Hamilton. John has been a regular on & off in the Dells for 40 years & he never fails to perform his classy, crowd-pleasing variety of acoustic guitar-accompanied vocals. He has a golden voice - the smoothest voice in vocal performances anywhere. No matter where he plays, make a point to see him - you will not be disappointed! Sarrentos & John G. Hamilton - *highly recommended!*
