Harry's Cafe & Place — Restaurant in Lake Geneva

Very dissapointing. I was reccommended to go here by a friend who said the bloody marys were good. So i took my friend for her birthday... very bad decision.

So.. lets not discuss the service. We already know it took 90 minutes before we got our food. (Not even all of our orders. They forgot one - the birthday girls.)

My complaint has to do with what happened After i asked for a manager. - A guy walked up to our table indifferently in a hoodie and asked "what's up"... I explain my complaint for our table. Drinks taking 30 minutes to receive. Telling someone they can't have egg whites because their kitchen is backed up already when they're at 20% capacity. His response. "It used to be so much worse." I say okay, but... that doesn't make this any less excusable. "Yeah.. I understand. We're just undeestaffed." (There are 4 tables and ours, at least 7 or 8 staff not including him. I'd watched 3 tables walk in, sit, wait 30 minutes for their order to be taken and leave instead) "Sundays are always the worse" he continues. "And we dont usually make anything with egg whites "...... I tell him again, that he is missing the point.

As the other people at the table begin to speak up, Im watching him shrug and continue say things... that do everything but accept responsibility for our very poor experience at his supposed establishment. So I ask him.. "ARE you REALLY the manager?" He hesitates before admitting he's the owners son. I ask him again if that means he is the manager becUse that was who I asked to speak to. At no point does he say yes. Just a lot more about him being the son and that they're restaurant used to be wayy shitteir than it was now so hes sorry we had a rough experience but others bedore me had it worse.

I cut him off with a wave of my hand and told him that we were getting nowhere. Since it seemes he was deliberatley missing the point. I asked for a resolution. He told me there would be none.

AND THAT was the end. Nothing was done. Food wasnt terrible.. but really.... I dont know how any business could be in Lake Geneva on the main downtown road and not...

Have been coming here for years, service is slow, but usually good, food was always good, especially the Greek Soup, however that being said our last visit was anything but. We were in town with friends and introduced them to Harry's, what a nightmare. First of all wait staff was very slow to seat us, bring menu's, and when we asked for water and silverware and napkins, we were told, "that comes out with the meal" WHAT!!!!! then it took even longer to get someone to the table to take our order. When we asked for a few extra napkins and some lemons for the water, mind you we also ordered regular beverages, we were told, "the owner gets angry if people ask for more of these items" therefore the server was reluctant to fill our request's. Mind you there were only a few tables outside being waited on and two other's in the restaurant. Needless to say our friends were NOT impressed. Thankfully the food was good but the service was the worst we've ever had, no refills on coffee or soda's, no one coming around to check on us or even clear away plates. The kicker was when the owner came from the kitchen, looking very raggedy & not very clean, took a seat at the bar and started emptying hot sauce bottles into each other, not very sanitary, not even taking a clean cloth or napkin to wipe the bottles off, and then......we'll let just say, if eating there, condiments should not be used, especially the hot sauce. The entire time one of our friends is watching this and became sickened to her stomach. Well that's it for us, no way will we ever go...

Waitstaff seated us outside, gave us menus and said our server would be right with us (3:00 on a Sunday, one other table seated outside, not busy). 20 minutes later my husband went in to see about service, both servers were sat talking to each other with no clue we were there. The first Spotted Cow I ordered was slightly warm, but not bad enough to gripe about. 30 minutes later my husband had to go in to check on our food. My grilled chicken was horrible. It was stringy and flavorless. When the waitress finally came back, everyone else was done eating, I asked if the chicken was frozen (it was), I told her it was horrible. She checked with someone inside, the only thing they would do was make something else for me. Sure, let me spend another 30+ minutes holding my family up (including a 3 month old) so you can make more unedible food. My husband got the gyro, it was obvious it was prepackaged, definitely not from a spit. It was mediocre at best. Save your time and money, go somewhere with service and...
