The food here is okay, but the service really lacks. Twice now when I’ve come, the same guy has worked the front who has been on his phone when I arrived and distracted from serving me as a result of it. The first time I was here, I was the only person and I only ordered a sandwich, and it took me 20 minutes to get my food. I sat outside, and I was ignored the entire time I was there besides when he brought my plate. This is my second time again as the only person. He’s in the kitchen on his phone right now screaming a conversation at someone due to the sink running, and it echoes through the place. Before he began cooking my order, he washed dishes. With no one else here and the fact that he was sitting down on his phone when I arrived, that order of things seems strange and out of place and only serves to lengthen the time I get my food. When I arrived he was on his phone in the dining area, no one else here, and I walked up to the counter and he said “be there in a minute.” Not only did it take him a full minute to walk up to the counter, but he stood in the space next to the register (not in front of it) and leaned forward at the counter and just typed away on his phone, ignoring me as I stood there staring at him for a full minute until he was done, then looked up to ask what I wanted. The one available table to sit at was dirty, and to clean it he simply walked over, picked up the tray, and used his bare hand to wipe away crumbs then told me to take a seat. No disinfectant, and the table still has grease on it. The place had been empty and he had been sitting on his phone rather than cleaning up a table someone else had left for who knows how long prior. I’ve included a photo of the dirty table and of the flies that surround me. There’s no open door, so no reason to have those around. He didn’t close the kitchen swinging doors, so I am now watching him as I write this take a Kroger brand block of fake cheese, cut a slice and use it to make my macaroni and cheese. If you’re gonna make fake cheese food, at least be discreet about it. The place touts the low and slow homemade meat aspect but follows the sides with that? For a $25 sandwich and side, I expect better. I feel like I should have walked the 300 feet more to Soul Belly to be honest.

Got the taco & rib combo with agua fresca. The agua fresca was nice, not too sweet and refreshing. The ribs were smoked to perfection, fall off the bone, and like any good smoked meat didn’t need any sauce but the sauce that came with it was a bonus. The surprise of the meal were the tacos. The smoked chicken tacos were sublime. Really outstanding. I wanted to try the brisket but it is only available on the weekends. This is due in part to a shortage caused by the pandemic. I was talking to the chef about this and I know it myself from work, so many things are in sort supply. This also effects prices as well. Good BBQ is never cheap and add in the COVID situation and prices are a little higher than normal. I found this out from visiting my favorite BBQ place a few weeks ago and the prices had increased quite a bit. The tacos were so good I placed an order to go. I ordered 2 of each of the smoked chicken, brisket guisada, and smoked sausage and it was a good choice. I will be back one weekend to try the brisket and a side or 2. But I will definitely be back for Taco Tuesday’s.

I paid 36.00 dollars for this. I think all the other reviewers were high or had too much to drink before they reviewed this food. Brisket has zero flavor, chicken chopped and pork shredded. I would never buy this as is in Texas. All their meats are better prepared for tacos/sandwiches, not as a plate. When you get chopped/shredded meat like this, it's the end leftovers never as a plate. Rice was flavorful and charro beans were ok. As for service, there was no one there and it took about 10 minutes to get our food. That's because everything is in insulated food boxes. Not fresh off a smoker. We watched as chicken was heated on the grill, and the pork was cold. Stick to tacos and maybe you will be ok.

If I was writing a review based on the quality of the food and service, it would be five stars straight up. If I was writing a review just based on value, it would only be one star. Since I'm reviewing all of the above, I'll split the difference. The food is fantastic and so is the service. I tried several things on the menu and loved them all. I purchased the Posole Ramen and I loved it. The smoked meat was tasty, the broth was exceptional and the noodles were perfect. The problem was that I paid $14-$15 for a tiny Styrofoam cereal bowl of it. When I say "tiny" I mean like the size they'd give to a grade school kid to put cereal in the cafeteria. When I first started eating pho 15 years ago, I got nearly 2 quarts of it for around $6. Since I moved here, I've eaten a lot of ramen and Chinese hand-pulled noodles. I pay between $8 and $12 for those and typically get at least a quart, if not more and there is a lot of meat, veggies and noodles in them. This was unacceptably, ridiculously small for even half that price. As much as I loved it, I won't be back. The quality does not offset the...
