We ended up at Oak&Ivy for our second visit last night, 01/28/25. The previous visit was over a year ago during summer and it was pretty busy that night, we do remember loving our drinks but were a bit too overwhelmed by the bands playing on stage at container park, so we left after finishing.
Yesterday we spent a while inside the bar and we are so glad we came back. Due to it being a Tuesday night in January it was not busy at all and we got to enjoy not only the drinks but some great conversations with the staff and guests. Our bartender Josh (I hope I remembered it correctly) and his lovely coworker steffi (I think?) were wonderful. One of the reasons we came in were the seasonal drinks before they change the menu and we got to try the Morning Star and Far Side first. Both were lovely, with the Morning Star being closer to a wintery whiskey sour, the Far Side was heavier on the aloe and basil and was very refreshing and light. The drink I wanted to try the most was the Overlook Stay, which they unfortunately couldn’t make for me as intended due to them not having rosemary, but Josh still managed to make a version by improvising the rosemary with some other ingredients and it was delicious! With it we got a second drink that he made up for my partner, which was a sort of mezcal negroni - also really good. We finished off with an excellent bloody mary and also the Apple Pie Harvest for me. We loved both but the Overlook Stay was the winner of the evening.
All drinks were beautifully balanced, the atmosphere was great and we are excited to come back soon to check out their...
Read moreI'm reviewing on the great Mixology experiences I've had drinking indoors at the bar...this is a good as it gets.
Oak and Ivy Service: Every visit has been consistent with some fun(ny) high energy bartenders behind the bar that give a great vibe. They'll keep you entertained with jokes and stories, or let you drink quietly as you watch TV or chat with your boozing buddies. Regardless, you're in for a good drinking session.
Oak and Ivy Drinky Drinks: All the house cocktails I've sampled have been tasty and put together well. I'm not a Whiskey drinker but the Whiskey Smash is one of those dangerous/tasty af drinks that you can pound quickly and is my current champ. If you're a beer drinker you're in luck because their selection is top notch. You won't get served a bad beer.
Oak and Ivy Ambiance: The attractive bar is clean, well stocked with dark wood everywhere and smart mood lighting. This paired up with the bartender's cool uniforms gives me a classy speak easy vibe. Outside drinking in the patio gives you full view of everything going on in Container park.
My favorite part of Oak and Ivy is the Omakase like Mixology experience they offer with their talented bartenders. Give them a sample of your favorite cocktails and they'll make you something you'll enjoy immensely. They're batting 100% with me. Shout out to Todd who's an excellent Mixologist. He's witty and so knowledgeable on drink ingredients and history. I learned a lot and his passion is evident in his drinks. See you at the...
Read moreVisited with family during summer - was nice, cool and quiet as it was early in the day and midweek.
A truly amazing range of drinks in general, let alone the curated cocktail list, honestly, I've never come across such a well considered and stocked bar (and I've visited "a few" in my time).
The head barman and mixologist was incredibly well versed in pairings, taste profiles and made some remarkable suggestions about what we should try, all whilst maintaining a professional, top flight approach - no matter that the bar got busier during our time there, he was always attentive, without "hovering".
We sat inside as we needed a break from the heat, and the styling inside was just as I would expect from such a welcoming, whisky oasis. This wasn't too much for the ladies in our group though, and given we were a mixed age group, everyone was made to feel welcome.
It has taken me months to get around to writing this review, but it made such an impression on me, that the experience will stay with me for many years to come.
Make sure to visit, as it was a hidden gem worth spending much more time there than we could. Looking forward to wangling a visit there on...
