I'll preface this review by stating I rarely eat this type of cuisine but I was pleased with the freshness & quality of food at Saginaw's.
ITEM'S ORDERED:
Royal Flush Reuben Chicken Matzo Ball New England Clam Chowder
TASTE:
All the food screamed made in-house, which is always a win. It just all seemed well made and not leftover at all.
The Reuben was a good size and shareable if you are not extremely hungry. I will have to say it was not humongous as I have seen other delis do their sandwiches, at least on the Food Network. The meat itself had a good salt level, given I was somewhat expecting it to be too salty. For some reason, the sauerkraut was not as sour as I was expecting it to be. The bread was good and I wonder if they make it here. The chips that came with it were like fresh kettle chips. Good with the sandwich, but I'd rather have fries. Which is what I always think when chips are the side. The pickle that comes along with it was great had that very fresh pickle crunch without it being too briny. I feel like they make the pickles in-house which is nice.
The Chicken Matzo Ball soup basically comes across as a light chicken noodle soup, minus the noodles. I will say I could see some people finding it bland, while others might think it's clean and easy to drink.
The chowder was probably my least favorite. It was not bad, but just not that good. Kind of lacking in the depth of flavor I'd had in other chowders. I will say I prefer the thicker creamier chowders.
SERVICE, LOCATION & PARKING:
Service was very exceptional. It's a more casual dining atmosphere and I was pleasantly surprised how attentive and friendly everyone was, especially given it was almost midnight.
They are located on the second level (I think) where most of the dining options are found. The place is large with many tables and gives that (clean) diner vibe. Points for the eye-catching stainless steel-looking ceiling. Parking is at the mercy of being downtown so be prepared to pay. Luckily it's very easy with the large parking garage right across from Circa. I think it was $13 for 1-4 hours when I was there.
They are open 24/7 so if you need some late-night or early-morning eats that are not just some lame fast food, check them...
Read moreMy wife and I ate at the new location in the Circa Casino on Thursday night. We ordered at 6:05 pm my wife ordered the brisket sandwich, I ordered the Ruben. We sat down and and at 6:20pm the brisket sandwich and burnt chips arrived at the table. It was luke warm and not very good. I waited until 6:45pm for my Ruben($20) no sandwich same for the table next to us. I went up front and ask for a manager. The young lady I ask wanted to know if she could help. I explained to her the situation and her reply was " We are not a restaurant the food comes out as it is ready" I replied " no a table should be served at the same time to all " I told her my wife's sandwich is now very cold jut please have the manager refund my $20". At 6:55 the manager came to the table and said she doesn't know how to refund the credit card. She took a picture with her phone and said we will get a full refund plus the sandwich. I received my sandwich at 7:05. It was not a Ruben it was missing the sauerkraut. I took the Ruben back to the front and ask them to tell me what was missing. The counter staff had no idea. I told the young man to look at the menu board and tell me what's missing. After a couple of looks he ask if I wanted the sauerkraut in a bowl. I replied yes please. In conclusion after an hour we left with a promise of a full refund. 24 hours later we do not have a refund. We will go back Monday and speak with the Casino manager if no refund over the weekend. It appears the staff had no training at all or just didn't care. Luckily we are local and can go back to speak with someone. I feel for the tourist that wer looking to have a good experience and Saginaw Delicatessen failed them. I would recommend anyone planning a trip to the Circa do not eat at the Saginaw Delicatessen. UPDATE: We did...
Read moreHorrible service, very disorganized, the staff isn't friendly, and the food is mediocre.
It took my friend and me over 30 minutes to get a sandwich with a side of fruit in the wee hours of the morning. You can see into the kitchen, and I watched the employees back there as we were waiting. They were meandering around with several containers of food packaged up. They'd pick up a container off the shelf, look at it, put it back, pick up another one, repeat. I'm not sure what the problem was, but when you have a few people waiting in the restaurant with the thousand-yard stare from being tired and hungry, just bring out the food instead of looking at it repeatedly.
They messed up the order. A lady called us and said, "Sandwich and potato salad?" My friend was like, "No, I ordered fruit." The lady looked at her, confused, even though it said, "Fruit," on the receipt. "Fruit?" she asked. "Fruit," my friend replied. Off the lady went to get the fruit. She had trouble closing the lid and said, "They overfilled it," and shrugged. I'm not sure why things are so sloppy here. It's like watching an episode of The Bear, only instead of yelling, everyone is just wandering around with no sense of urgency, and instead of going for a Michelin star, they're looking to close down. If it's a weekend, just leave and go to Peppermill for 24/7 food, or get something from Jack Pots in the casino. Saginaw's isn't worth the wait or the price. I hope the guy who'd been waiting longer than we had finally...
