My husband has been a fan of White Castle for years. This was my 2nd visit to this location. And was expecting the same outstanding service/attention to detail I received my 1st visit. The line to order was considerably longer than my 1st visit, but it was late night so I kinda expected it to be busier. Halfway to the ordering counter I saw that all orders were being done on the self service kiosk. Okay? I found out after placing my order that the kiosk only accepts cards - credit/debit. I wanted to pay cash but the wait was so much longer than my 1st visit, it was late and I walked there. After me in line was a deaf young lady. She did her order in the kiosk but only had cash. She kept waving at the employees behind the counter but they either didn't see her waving or were so busy putting orders together they didn't see her. So I repeatedly said "excuse me - she needs HELP" & "wants to pay with cash". Eventually, an employee heard me and came over to HELP. She went directly to the cash register - why with the line halfway to the entrance was she wiping down tables when she could have been taking orders and those customers that desired using a card for payment could use the kiosk? She was so rude to this deaf young lady- she kept asking what she had ordered? The young lady tried to give her cash. Along with other customers we yelled "she is deaf", "she can not hear you", "she has order in her phone' , and "pull the last order from kiosk up it still on screen". What a nightmare - she showed her phone then paid. And the the employee cleared the order from the kiosk and walked away. My # was called, I asked for some ketchup & walk back home. I didn't look in my bags until I got into my kitchen. I was missing 3 sliders boxes( I ordered 6). I thought I made the mistake and looked at my receipt - 3 w/ cheese 3 no cheese. My bag had 2 w/ cheese 1 no cheese? How did this happen? My 1st visit was so smooth! On a Saturday afternoon! And was a lot more $$$! I tried calling - no one picked up the phone. So I walked back. The line to order is now at the entrance/door. My order# was 706. By the time I said excuse me 50 times made it to the order pick up counter they were on #771. And a gentleman that was behind me - #709 had not received his fries that he ordered. He asked if I had gotten my "locals discount'- I showed him my receipt and he said he didn't either. I didn't know what he was talking about? He got his fries and left. They asked me what my # was and what was missing. They couldn't even find my order on the the monitor. It probably was deleted cause I was in the order before the deaf young lady paying cash - no apology, no free beverage for my walk back to my apartment! I had to tell them what was missing from my order. An older gentleman said my # and handed me a bag. I had not spoken to him about what was missing so I tried to show him what was in my bags. I even pointed out on the receipt that I received 3 sliders and ordered 6. He dismissed both and waved me off saying this your order. And my dumb a** left. Not checking the bag once again! Stop laughing at my review - this actually happened! đł At my apartment I opened the bag given to me by the older gentleman. AND OF COURSE, I WAS GIVEN 2 NOT 3 SLIDERS BOXES! My husband laughed so hard he cried. I had to join him because I didn't want to cry! The "local discount' the man with the missing fries mentioned - was on my receipt from my stellar 1st visit. So I guess if you use the kiosk & pay with a card your " local discount' " status is nothing. The food was good, don't be hungry if you go to this location after 10 PM. The wait is long and they just might not give you a complete order. Dining in? I would rather not have the line of folk's waiting for the kiosk order standing over me looking at me eating tiny...
Read moreI grew up dining at White Castle. This is a fabulous White Castle.
At least in my opinion.
I was able to get here 3 times during my two days spent in Vegas and it may have been the highlight of the trip.
All 3 times I was there was during the late evening and early morning hours so there were always some of the drunks and whatnot that comes with White Castles at that time of day. That being said, I never experienced any issues while I was dining there. Everyone seemed to have those awesome little burgers on their mind and showed proper reverence for the establishment.
The line was long but moved along quickly. This Castle probably has the best views of the kitchen I've ever seen and it was great to watch everything being made. This is a particularly good thing for some of those out there who disparage WC and question their cooking practices.
There was a little display case full of Vegas White Castle tchotskies for sale and a menu for you to check out while waiting.
The staff was cool and worked quick and got my order right everytime (granted, my order is complicated. X# cheeseburgers, X# burgers and a coke). That being said, I don't recall ever hearing a customer complaint the whole time I was there.
It was funny seeing the sign imploring employees to not give away handfuls of condiments with each order.
Ok, so that all makes for a good WC but why is this a great WC? The reason we all come here. The burgers. They were fabulous. Now I'm one of those folks who believes that there really aren't any bad White Castle burgers but rather just varying degrees of good. These may have been the best that I have ever had. If I had to say why, I'd guess that it was probably just how fresh they were. The turnover rate on food in this place is fast and nothing would ever get a chance to get old here. Throw in a good kitchen staff and you end up with some great burgers.
The only thing that I wish was different was that it would have been cool if they could use trays for in house orders instead of putting everything in a bag. That's just a lot of to go bags that never even leave the restaurant. But I get it. Trays have to be picked up, pulled out of trash cans, washed. Maybe it's more environmentally friendly to use the bags than use the water to clean the trays. Water is at a premium here in the desert, isn't it? I don't know. Just an observation.
A well deserved 5 stars for...
