The food was pretty good. I’ve eaten here about a half a dozen times all takeout. I’ve had bad experiences with all the takeout containers. I don’t know why they continue to put salad and items inside containers that look like Chinese food containers. It doesn’t make sense to me, but the food is on the better side. I’ve definitely had to wait a little longer than normal every time I’ve come in and I’m not saying it’s the end of the world but at the same time the place was dead so I don’t know what the delay was but there’s times and things that I might not see so maybe they were handling some sort of situations that I wasn’t aware of so like I said it wasn’t the end of the world. The staff wasn’t friendly and they weren’t unfriendly. They were just there surprising especially being in the service industry. I figured they would’ve been a little bit more pleasant considering the selections available nearby you kind of try to differentiate yourself on service. I don’t know if she’s one of the owners or family. She walks around and is constantly adjusting the tables and doing things I would imagine she’s something and management, but she always seems like something‘s wrong. She never has a smile on her face and never seems to be pleasant. I don’t know if that’s her demeanor. She might wanna work on it because you’re in that industry and you might wanna try to be a little bit more outgoing people tend to look at you and watch you and it gives a reflection on your establishment one time when I was there and they had to substitute their fish and they gave me Pompano. It was actually unbelievable. It was so delicious. One of the cooks came out and explained it to me. He was a really nice guy and explained it very simple and he told me actually he assured me I’m gonna be very happy and he was on the money. It was delicious. I would say it might be in the top two fishes of my favorite fish now definitely a place I would recommend and if they were to fix their takeout containers I would probably be there more often. Like I said it’s definitely a place. I would recommend trying and there’s some minor adjustments that would make it a place. I’d like to...
Read moreBeachy dive bar kind of feel, but it’s clean! I loved that they had decorated dollars all around the restaurant. It was entertaining to look at and we even had fun coloring our own and adding them to the walls. Make sure to bring some $1 if you want to add to the collection.
The food was great. I had the ripper and the Zoe. The ripper was such a juicy hotdog. All beef hot dogs are a plus for me. It was my first time having a bacon wrapped and fried hotdog. The bun it came in was soft and fluffy.
The Zoe was good. I personally would have loved a bit more gravy on my biscuit. The gravy was the star of the show. The chicken was nice and crispy.
My husband loved the Oliver burger. I had some bites too and it was SO GOOD. Simple with bbq chips, mac and cheese, and bacon on the inside. The beef was so juicy and tender it melted into Wagyu beefy goodness with each bite. The Mac n cheese was my favorite side. It was THICCC and cheesy. Wish I would have picked it as one of my own sides.
We also enjoyed the sliders and the fish and chips. The fish and chips was a big portion! The fish was fresh cod, soft and tender on the inside while keeping it crispy and crunchy on the outside. The slaw had a bit of spice to it but I enjoy spiciness.
For dessert we went a little crazy and ordered all of the donuts. This is how I would rank them starting with best - 1. The Muddy Pig, I love Nutella and this was loaded with it, the bacon gave it a nice crunch and the donut was served and warm (to be fair they were all warm) 2. Psycho Girl Scout- first time ever having a donut with peanut butter, but this worked! The marshmallow was oooet gooey warm and even charred a bit on top, SO GOOD! 3. The Dirty Duo was yummy as well but not as impressive as the first two. As I write this I realize I missed a donut but these were all so filling and delicious! Great place to come with family or friends. Hope you enjoy it as...
Read moreThough I had never been to a Billy Jacks Shack franchise before, I had heard a lot of good about them which good news I found to be true when I visited this one in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Though a chain and loaded with gimmicky things, not too chainy in feeling and not too gimmicky even though when at the bar you find yourself staring directly into the hood and grill of an old Chevrolet truck. But not to worry, I'm sure it doesn't run.
Billy Jacks is known as a "Beer, Beer, Beer" place and indeed does have a wonderful selection craft beers. While there I had a Belgian styled brew from Monks Brewery in Boca which I thought outstanding.
The menu is something else, being a sort of combination of the innovative along with a dash of the whimsical. For example there is a wagyu patty burger topped with house pork, cheddar and cole slaw call a Chuck Norris, then a Greg Brady being the patty topped off with mac-n-cheese; even an Elvis with peanut butter. Or you can have what I had, being a Mario Combover ($5.95), a hot dog smothered over with a firecracker sauerkraut topped with a honey/balsamic mustard sauce. Though sounding weird, it was really good.
Billy Jacks Shack target market is to become more of neighborhood as opposed to a tourist hang which is most likely why they selected Lauderdale-By-The-Sea as opposed to a Las Olas location. Overall it's set up so that you can have a good meal and drink in the $20 to $25 Billy Jacks Shack dollar price range. That is if you don't follow me and have their market priced oysters which turned out to be $3 each for the half dozen but of such heavenly delicious Massachusetts Bay types, I deemed it well worth the price.
Another good point with Billy Jacks Shack is the service. The service I had was not only professional top flight but a fun...
